Number 1 is just a bit too overzealous due to the number of officers

I doubt anyone here wants decisions for obscure historical officers. Keeping it limited to the 50 most popular ones sounds a reasonable idea.

and also the fact that due to the nature of CK2, the owners of those provinces would have the officers since they were children anyways since they have to be in someone's court upon being born.

I don't understand what you're saying here.

Lets take Deng Ai for example. He doesn't appear in any note of relevance until about 220 roughly, but he was born around 196/197 in Jingzhou somewhere. Well obviously by the Hanzhong bookmark (Liu Bei's go at Hanzhong, not Cao Cao's), you expect Cao Cao to have Deng Ai somewhere in his territory, but realistically, the moment you start up a game any time after Deng Ai was born, he's in someone's court (we have it as Liu Biao -> Liu Cong -> Cao Cao -> Cao Pi, etc.). Same is said about anyone. It's not the bookmark that decides who is in the game and who isn't, it's the year. So while you said an example being Sima Yi and Deng Ai being brought into service via decision or whatever, realistically they are already in service just by nature of that ruler owning the specific territory they happen to be within. Follow?

Lets take Deng Ai for example. He doesn't appear in any note of relevance until about 220 roughly, but he was born around 196/197 in Jingzhou somewhere

As per my map, you can see that he was from Jiyang/Wan. That's specific enough to be a province. The triggers would be,
1. The decision is available for the ruler of the province id (Jiyang prov id)
2. The decision is available during a specific timeperiod (One/Several years, in Deng Ai's case, I'd imagine it would be when he's 16/20, hence 214-220)
3. Character id of the spawned character must not exist yet (If he already exists in the bookmark, the decision makes no sense and thus isn't available).

So in Deng Ai's example, using that decision spawns the character id of Deng Ai. So even if you play a game from the Yellow Turban bookmark, Deng Ai will always (Assuming AI always uses that decision) pop up during those years, serving whatever Liege controls Xinye.

Well obviously by the Hanzhong bookmark (Liu Bei's go at Hanzhong, not Cao Cao's), you expect Cao Cao to have Deng Ai somewhere in his territory

If he exists, then the decision doesn't become active.

but realistically, the moment you start up a game any time after Deng Ai was born, he's in someone's court (we have it as Liu Biao -> Liu Cong -> Cao Cao -> Cao Pi, etc.).

The decision isn't for bookmarks/years where he already exists. It's for previous ones, to make sure memorable characters of the time period always show up.

So while you said an example being Sima Yi and Deng Ai being brought into service via decision or whatever, realistically they are already in service just by nature of that ruler owning the specific territory they happen to be within. Follow?

Not if you start at an earlier bookmark, where neither of them will exist without an event/decision spawning them.

What you're proposing is... absurdly complicated, Jolt. Sorry. That'd take several weeks to properly code, just for that one decision chain. I'll look into the other one where certain officers will recommend others, but that other officer spawning one is way too complicated and time consuming for just me and Jace to handle while still trying to code the rest of the bookmarks and events.

Ok, I had no idea it was complicated. I thought characters were saved in history with specific ids, and that it'd be somewhat easy to make id characters spawn. Oh well.

Some events from Jace. As far as what I have confirmed, the entire Cao/Xiahou family tree was completed, and we should have the Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu, Han Fu, Gongsun Zan, Gongsun Du, and Liu Yu officer corps added in well. If I have time, I'll handle the Kong Rong, Tao Qian, and minor Hebei warlords' forces as well.

Cao Cao's officer corps will be handled in the update following that, hopefully. It's a dauntingly large list of people.

If you didn't want it to be a decision you could just make an event where they'll appear. Vanilla does this with characters like Seljuk and the Mongol leaders at least.

A major issue as well that can complicate the script is that some guys that are the big names of the latter part of the era are sons of other people, and some of them were born in the later years of their fathers lives (most notoriously Zhong Hui, whose father was well past 60 years of age when Zhong Hui was born). The problems of double checking if their parents were alive or not for the script is what I find most daunting about the entire idea. Wouldn't even know where to begin in terms of that scripting.

That has an extremely simple solution: Don't do decisions for characters who descend from other known characters.

That is almost literally everyone except Deng Ai.

As unimportant as they are, we know who Jiang Wei and Yang Hu's fathers are. Most of the others are sons of other famous people.

Well, if they are unimportant, phreaps for the sake of allowing these decisions, which have far more immersibility and impact to game world and to the player, it would be better to remove those obscure parents, whose importance in the game or to the player, is practically non-existent. Further, it also has the side-benefit of not clogging the history files with obscure characters that won't be seen or cared for by 99% of the mod users.

Regardless, at a quick glance, popular individuals without known parents:
- Deng Ai
- Dian Wei
- Ding Feng
- Gan Ning
- Guan Yu
- Guo Jia
- Huang Gai
- Huang Zhong
- Jia Xu
- Lü Bu
- Lü Meng
- Lu Su
- Pang De

- Taishi Ci
- Wei Yan
- Xu Chu
- Xu Huang
- Yue Jin
- Yu Jin
- Zhang Fei

- Zhang Liao
- Zhao Yun
- Zhou Tai

That's already 27 largely popular characters of the time period.

Every character you listed except Deng Ai have birth years before 184, so they'd exist at game start.

You may view Jiang Wei and Yang Hu's parents as unnecessary, but they still warrant inclusion, especially since Yang Hu's cousins were still important to the era and without his father, those people are just same dynasty as him, thus lack the related benefits of closer kinship (mostly bond related bonuses). Jiang Wei's father. As for Jiang Wei, the inclusion of his father is done because it's his family. Do all of Cao Cao's kids do impressive feats? No, but we included every last son and daughter we could find info on. Hell, I included Cao Pi's kids that died in infancy because they still existed and it completes the family tree.

They might be alive, but not all of them were militarily/politically active at the bookmark, which allows for the decision system to be enacted around the time they historically became active.

Besides, a good lot of them have unknown birth years, and were infants at the earliest start date. For characters with no known parents or birthyear, what's the system? Just put them in a random court while they're kids? Wouldn't it be better to create a decision for when they historically start getting involved in political/military affairs?

Well, it's about priorities. I understand having the children as they certainly might do something other than dying in the game playthroughs, and I can understand keeping obscure parents if a character has other brothers by the same father/mother. But for characters whose parents are wholly unimportant and the character has no known close family, then the father is not needed, in my opinion. But again, not my mod.
