I saw that one. I figured that would work better as a dynasty COA instead of representing the province but why not both?

Didn't think of that one but yeah, it could work better as you say.

Thanks Red.

I have already wrote some siege events, Plague, Surrender & Reinforcements, and I have some more lined-up to do. I am still learning the system to be frank, so nothing that great at the moment. I wrote a morale boosting event for the battle system but I think to many could get cumbersome and most tactics I have done are already based on leader traits or culture rather than martial skill. Your idea of a female leading is interesting, maybe a slight morale drop unless she's French and called Joan?

By researching battles and such, I have come up with a system of allocating starting force composition as below;
Code:
Unit pts Saxon Norman English Irish Scots Welsh Breton Norge Turks

L.Inf *1 120 70 60 175 140 140 135 205 25
H.Inf *3 60 35 35
Pikemen *2 15 25 50
L.Cav *2 30 50 40 30 10 10 60 0 50
Knights *5 5 30 15 5 10 10
Archers *1 10 25 50 20 20 75 20 20
H.Arc *3 140
It seems that most armies used light infantry, even the Turks. The unfortunate thing is that the tactics of most of the light horse outfits i.e. hit & run, can not be implemeted in the current system unless a way is found to withdraw them from battle without incurring great loss. Any thoughts you have on the above would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a tactician, much less a 'knowledged' one ;), but the heavy use of light horse happened in places where maneuver was often more important than killing power necessarily. There were some bad cavalry vs. cavalry battles like Sagrajas (which halted the Reconquista for generations the losses were so severe). Horse-heavy forces might be able to get events like what happened at Las Navas de Tolosa, an early morning surprise attack that entirely routed a much bigger enemy.

Most of the forces, especially in defensive wars, would have been light foot. People in mountainous and other difficult terrain tended to fight on foot and with whatever arms they had. The famous Aragonese Almogavars were particularly good against heavy horse: these mercenaries fought with blades resembling machetes and they went after the horses then dispatched the knights as they fell from their mounts. Not chivalrous, but effective. :) So I gave my cultural_modifier for my light infantry heavy Aragonese very starting morale (that's what army_organization is for).

Not a huge update, but a personal triumph. Rodrigo 0.07 should be rather playable, with the map positions corrected, so the King of Aragon's levies no longer spawn in eastern Armenia. ;)

bigorre1.jpg

I added a number of provinces to northern Iberia and by special request, the free County of Bigorre. No, Marsh, I am not cutting up Béarn any more for you. :) I will say that you can play Bigorre, but you are 56, unmarried, and your heir is a younger son of the Count of Urgell and your late daughter (and not of your dynasty), so you should get right to siring a son if you want to play more than a few years. That's your main duty. You are an independent count without a de jure liege. Not much room for expansion but not much of a threat, unless your grandson in Urgell comes knocking. Yep, mostly you need to find a young maiden fair to wed and continue the line with a male heir of your house. O heavy is the head that wears the crown. :D

The next update will probably have a bit more history for this cadet line of the House of Foix. Although born of a matrilineal marriage, I let Bernat II remain a Foix (I modded that bit of the vanilla history files--I like big dynasties rather than breaking up the Maison de Foix into different related lines).

I finished modding the map files for Galicia, Leon, Castile, and Aragon. Special thanks to tommassi for his maps. Txini, I have not yet added the flags that you sent me, but next time. Thanks to everyone who commented and keeps checking up on what I'm doing.

Sancho Ramirez of Aragon now has Ribagorza and Sobrarbe, but the Emir of Zaragoza is also stronger as is the Emir of Toledo. Garcia II of Galicia still has two provinces but three new comital vassals. The Galicia minimod is included in this version of the main mod. Landed_titles.txt is not altered except to include the new provinces. Most of the baronial title names are not localised, so apologies on that, and I will be working on balancing the baronies, so your suggestions are appreciated. But all in all, enjoy! And then comment.

Rodrigo 0.07 Update

Great work Red! And thanks for putting in the time to create Bigorre and fixing the wayward armies. The map is FANTASTIC! I played Bigorre for two hours and Bernat of Bigorre "took to divine flight" just as I
was about to change the succession law, which would have given his daughter (who was married off to an Occitan count by then) full reign, but most likely at a heavy price of rebellion by his grandsons! But hedid make his pilgrimage to Coruna after it was safe from invading Muslim forces that were ravaging the provinces just south of the Pyrenees. Also, it was GREAT to actually see his army looking over the
mountain range right into Aragon when zoomed in! I'm sure that Béarn isn't happy about losing territories though :p I'll play him again and see what happens. Had two good hours though.

By the way, I REALLY like the pilgrimage idea! I noticed lots of "foreign" armies making the pilgrimage too. I was wondering (for a future idea) if there was a way to create special piety or prestige "points" for
any Catholic monarch, duke or count who established a nunnery or monastery in any reconquered (Iberian reconquista only) territory...just a thought.

Example: the ruler would have to have X amount of money and piety, lead an army to the province in Iberia (which might get him into trouble with a Muslim force), then establish the nunnery or monastery.
This would be like a personal crusade for weaker rulers that never seem to be able to even reach Jerusalem or another area as part of a Papal Crusade.

If it's workable, I can create a list of historical saints and bishops who might be instrumental in that idea and create the appropriate character files for each of them. I only wish that I had more modding
experience, but am still learning. GREAT work! Will be checking in again soon. Marsh

Happy you had a good time. Do you have roots in Bigorre or just interested? Anyway, thanks for the report. The pilgrimage objective took a lot of work to figure out, so I'm happy it's working. Bernat II did have a son named Raimond so I'll be sure to add him in so you can survive. He only lived until 1070 though, so I guess the devs didn't see the need.

You can post what you want to draw up. You can check the history files to see who is already in the game, but it would be mostly landowners. Anymore feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've finished the map modding for Catalonia. It took all morning, but I think that I finally have it pretty accurate. Ramon Berenguer I of Barcelona is starting with a few counties in his demesne (Osona, Gerona), and I've given Urgell and Pallars (yes, only one Pallars, not two) their historical places. I have left out Berga and Andorra because this region is already too crowded. :eek:hmy:

Not sound like boy cry wolf I guess it new patch. SO i try the combo of Project Rodrigo with the mid mod of Galicia, and I gett pligrim loop again, soo much piety.

Are you running both together? That might have strange results. The Galicia minimod is integrated into Rodrigo now. And btw, the devs made the Galician provinces Portuguese now, so it's a bit redundant except for the pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage should give you a ten-year character flag so that it won't be possible to do it again. I'll have to try it out.

I can't really predict what ANY mod is going to do until they are updated to 1.05. There are a lot of changes, so give me a day or three.

Catalonia: A work in progress. I've split off Osona, Gerona, and Besalu from Barcelona (which is now a bit smaller) and Cerdanya from Empuries. Further inland and upward, Urgell has been redrawn and Pallars has come into existence. Paradox's map projection is a bit strange, so it is hard to know what angle to put provinces sometimes, like Osona or Urgell, but I make sure that adjacencies are correct even if the exact projection is not perfect. A few more hours and I think I'll be satisfied.

Under the "Small is beautiful category," I have finished the County of Bigorre. Here is the House of Foix in 1066 (now the only start I'm allowing: I hate doing history files!). There will be several small independent counties on the northern side of the Pyrenees stretching from Béarn to Foix, if you like playing small clans. Like the Jimena or Rurikovich, but with fewer horses. ;)

Exceptional additions to the Catalonian Counties!

Red! The new provinces in Catalonia look great! This, I think, is the most superb rendition of the Iberian Peninsula yet! I don't have any family connections to Bigorre, but I've always loved the history of southern France and its connection to Spanish history. I'm actually Italian, but I teach French and have had some students who were from Barcelona. It is really interesting to see the connection of the Medieval French and its influence in the Catalonian language, which has much of its origins in French.

History files: I think that I've got the basic idea of how these work, so if you would like some extra files done, let me know. I might have missed it, but is there a link to the most recent update since April 18th? Thanks for your great work! Marsh

thanks for the kind words on my work. I will be releasing an update that will work with the 1.05 patch--the devs have moved a few files around so things may not work as they did in 1.04c. Under the new patch, Catalonia will remain part of de jure France--most of Occitania and the Spanish March along the Pyrenees refused to do homage to Hugh Capet in 986.

In 1066, what was actually 'France' was pretty much restricted to the lands north of the Loire, but the French claims to being overlord of Catalonia was strong enough that Louis IX and Jaime I of Aragon signed the Treaty of Corbeil in 1258 formally removing the Catalan counties from France in return for Aragon removing Toulouse from its own sphere of influence. There's potential there for some interesting modding.

So where does that leave Bigorre for example. I am starting it as an independent county that can swear fealty to the Duke of Aquitaine if you want to, or continue to go it alone. With Raimond of Bigorre and his mother Clemencia now in the game, you should be able to survive longer.

How is the updating to 1.05c going Red?

With the dozen new provinces that I added last week, not so quickly. :) I went through the updated defines file and when I got to the bottom I thought, wow, I'll have to see what steve is doing with these variables before I start messing with the combat stuff! :D

I got an independent d_aquitaine and d_toulouse working, together with Barcelona all de jure vassals of France. Then I played around with title creation triggers--now France can't create k_aquitaine. Now I have to go through Iberia and put everything where it's supposed to go, in terms of map files.

I did have a chance to play a vanilla 1.05 game up to 1120. I started as Galicia, had a daughter, then died of a fever a year later. She went on to unite northern Iberia, and I got to see how the new alliance system works. I am thinking of how to enable Muslims and Christians to come to each others' aid. Zaragoza had a running alliance with Castile against Aragon and against Mauretania and against Valencia. Galicia got tribute from Seville and Badajoz; and Leon from Toledo. Reconquest was not the name of the game until Alfonso VI of Leon got greedy and demanded an increase in the cost of doing business and the Emir of Seville invited Mauretania (the Almoravids) in to 'liberate' the peninsula. Then the French got involved helping the Leonese and it was a huge bloody mess after that. But before all that happens, I get the map straightened out. :)

So in short, not too bad. Does 1.05 change what you're working on?
