It's been a great ride so far, but I want to slow things down a bit and think about where I want this mod to go. So I am releasing my map mod for Iberia for now, and pulling back a bit from updating for a bit. Here is the download link:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mq5tx3bxbewws83

Enjoy. An event add-on will be coming soon, but I can't say quite when yet. I want to thank all of you for sticking around, helping with your comments, here and elsewhere on the forum.

I already owe a few debts from fellow forumites for their suggestions (in no particular order):

Orinsul
Arko
Jaol
ash001
Joel M Bridge
Baneslave
apg
tommassi
Meneth
Shaytana

And to Cèsar de Quart, for teaching me so much about Aragon and Catalonia.

My apologies for forgetting anyone. Please feel free to remind me!

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT: AN EVIL MOD. Download the version for 1.06 here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2c4c187i5sca6di

Click below for instructions:
First off, start the mod named EVIL from the launcher. Start up as a king or queen. Hand out the minor title "persona non grata" to a duke. Keep his diplomacy screen and you'll notice that you just usurped all of his lands without tyranny. If you think that you can live with yourself, keep on playing. :D If not quit and play Project Rodrigo some more. Don't worry. I'll find a productive use for it later in the mod's development, maybe for despoiling heretics or some such. Finally, a game feature that lets the Inquisition pay for itself.

Announcing a Galicia mini-mod (
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8f59mwm9wuprd00).
Description:
Project Rodrigo was initially meant to be focused on Castille and Leon during the reign of Alfonso VI (r.1065-1109). I decided rather quickly that something should be done with Galicia and Portugal. The 1.05 patch will shake up how de jure kingdoms work, allowing Galicia to start as a de jure kingdom, presumably with the Duchy of Portucale as a de jure vassal. Then I read this bug report from Rogan de Auria on the Kingdom of Galicia, as well those other Paradoxians who commented on this and another thread in the Spanish-language forum for CK.

Having weighed all the factors, I have decided to release a mini-mod focused on Galicia in 1066. Culture is a tricky thing in the game, perhaps particularly in Iberia. The division between Basque, Castilian, and Galician is rather difficult to deal with. I don't want to obliterate the differences altogether, but it would be wrong to over-stress them either. I would like to see culture designate names as well as the composition of military levies. (Any comments on what kinds of armies Portuguese and Galician nobles fielded would help me figure out that part of the mod--were they mostly cavalry like the Castilians and Leonese or infantry like the Aragonese almogavars?)

Any comments of course would be appreciated.

What it does:
- changes the localisation of 'Portuguese' to 'Galician' (which should also work in the Spanish version of the game, appearing as 'Gallego');
- changes the localisation of the Province of Santiago to Ourense, which in my consideration might be a better representation of southern Galicia during this period. Garcia II Jimena now rules in Ribadavia rather than La Corunna.
- relocates Santiago de Compostela to Corunna province and correctly designates it as a bishopric.
- Last but not least, I have included a new ambition: a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela that will give you the same benefits as Paragon of Virtue. It is for Iberian and Latin human players only. For it to work, you have to be at peace and lead an army to the Province of La Corunna. Then you will get a completion event and some bonuses to relations with the Pope and your own bishops. These bonuses are programmed to last ten years, then you can do the pilgrimage again. Enjoy.

For the future:
- designate southern Portucale as Andalusian, and give Sisnando Davides his correct culture and liege.
- create events for implementing a separate Portuguese culture once Portugal is independent.

Look forward to it. Like those ideas.

How did you manage to have a ducal title vassal to a count's one ?

Thanks. In vanilla CK2, Hugues is bishop of Cluny, vassal of the Count of Macon. I made him independent and gave him a new ducal title. Historically, the Abbot of Cluny answered to no one but the Pope, so I wanted that to be reflected in the game.

To do this, I copied the entry for the Knights Templar in /landed_titles.txt and modified things a bit to give him his proper form of address and title as Abbot. Of course, the monks of Cluny aren't warriors, so they don't get a specific troop type. I hope that answers your question.

ok so he is not technicaly vassal of the count of Mâcon right. giving him a duke title is the good way to avoid de jure claim on independant baronies for them to survive.

Hey, RedRooster, I'll be following this.
You were the guy that had a few threads with suggestions and ideas when CKII was in development and opened up the forum, right?
Some of these ideas even made it into the game, I think, pretty cool.

In any case, good luck, I really enjoyed some of the 'game-mechanics' suggestions you made in the past!

That means a lot, ash. I did run my mouth a lot. Hopefully something good came of it. :p

I think I'll be putting up a first installment over the weekend. I've created an independent Abbey of Cluny and the Order of Santiago. It's all intended as a 1066 start, but if you start in 1170 or after, Santiago will be a vassal of k_leon.

EDIT: I just wrote an event series for becoming a patron of Cluny Abbey. If it works, I'll do an upload. This is my first public mod for any game, so I'm interested in what you guys think. If all works out, you'll get a decision to send your character (or his chaplain) on a pilgrimage to Cluny. So there, we'll have the rudiments of a monastic order in the game, a pilgrimage, and a nice long-term modifier for forking your gold off to the mortmain. I have Alfonso VI of Leon in mind for this event series, but any Catholic ruler of Latin or Iberian culture is qualified. But I'm probably revealing too much.

Time for an update. This time around, join the Order of Santiago, visit the tomb of St. James the Greater, and gain a few traits along the way.

Hey thats me. Oh and this looks awesome! If a landless title is independent, how do you find them? that would be the only problem id see with having them not as papal vassals is that there wont be anywhere on the map to click to find them.

One thing i would suggest is that if the mods going to have faeries and magic and what-have-yous as well, it might be worth making a dependent on this one sub-mod for the fantastical as that way them as wont want it will still have the church, friars, pilgrims and politics side of the mod. And i think its fairly easy to do that [i havent tried but i read where the devs said it was].
Decision triggered events or special diplomatic options might be away to allow abbots to throw their weight around.

Looks an awesome mod, i wish you all the luck with it! It'd be awesome to see monastic orders in the game.

Thanks. I gave the abbot his proper home in b_cluny, which is in the County of Macon. So you can find him there. I even figured out how to do flags properly.

I am going to do modular updates for a while, then put it all in a master module that will have the files that the whole mod depends on like /landed_titles.txt and the localization stuff. The magic stuff with be part of its own sub-module, probably a rather small part, but you will be able to do things like dabble in the occult (think Faust here), be an alchemist, maybe have a fairy wife with strange half-elf children with long lifespans (if I can work the same problem you have out).

The focus right now is on getting popular religion into the game, so you can join the Order of Santiago in this installment, but I want to be able to retire to a monastery, lock up a pretender in the local abbey, donate money to the monks at Cluny to pray for my late father. That sort of thing.

On the abbots, I'd like to be able to have the Abbot of Cluny be an intermediary between the big kingdoms as he was historically for a while. Abbot Hugh I escorted his godson Heinrich IV to Canossa, where his old friend Gregory VII was waiting, and then he went to France as papal legate. You'll hopefully be able to stay on his good side by funding his order in your kingdom, making pious donations, and visiting from time to time. It's gonna be a lot of fun if it works out. So far, so good. And good luck with your post-apoc mod. The map looks very nice.

Thanks and cool! I was thinking about when the Frairs come along and how unless you have a son among them you might never be able to find them. All your ideas sound great!

Thanks. It is a problem, not being able to find landless titleholders. The only options I can think of are (1) to make the Franciscans a holy order with no actual troops, a vassal of the pope I suppose or (2) give them a barony, in Assisi I guess. I am only giving Cluny the one barony and it seems fine so far. The abbeys that you can build in this mod are of the castle-abbey type popular in England for example: for example what Ellis Peters describes in her Brother Cadfael mysteries in Shrewsbury.

You can make a landless titular duchy f.e. since it have vassals it will be accessible through them (since they are themself landed though)

That's a good idea, but I'm not sure if for example the Pope could be landless but have a bishop or baron as his vassal. I think that the AI just takes over their vassal's holding at that point. I'll give it a try, though.

I love where thid mof id going, but one define possible one. There one bug where last event of pilrmage quest just keep looping. Another is when join the knightly order there no event at he get the trait. I was thinking to if have high relation with the king and high piety and presitge you can become gandmaster of the order.

I will check the pilgrimage quest for an infinite loop. I probably have a flag missing.

The Order of Santiago is something that I will do more with in the next update. I need more conditions on it instead of just gold. I am thinking of at least an event for approval by the grandmaster. The Order of Santiago did not require celibacy of its members so it is different from the Templars. I would ultimately like to make the election to grandmaster up to everyone with the trait, as that's how it really worked.

Thanks for the input. I'm happy that you're liking the mod so far.

When will be the next update?

I'm planning on one update per week for the time being. If you have any ideas or requests, feel free to post them.
First thing comes to mind are the Four Treasures of the Tuatha De Danann, your character can go questing.

Oo here idea your of nordic decent, like demark Sweden Norway. They travel to the great city and join the Vaguards, interesting about is this passtime made many of men rich. tradtion with Vangaurd goes is whe Emperor dies they go into the treasury take as wealth that there hand could loot.

Or strict requirment to be legal king of hungary is another one.

I dont know if yourve thought of this, but the crusader trait giving event knows where you character is. So presumably you could have pilgrim events that require your character to actually go to the place. Get offered the pilgrimage in the event, raise one baronies levy, goto the starting place to get the pilgrim modifier then to the end to get the pilgrimage completed event.
With the AI getting a different version thats automatic.
