Thanks for the tip, but I've actually come up with a new way that works completely. Here's the code:

1702 = {
name="Leon"
# AKA: Leo
dynasty=8642
religion="orthodox"
culture="greek"
trait="born_in_the_purple2"
trait="scholar"
trait="proud"
trait="arbitrary"
trait="scholarly_theologian"
mother=1761
866.9.29={
birth="866.9.29"
father=70490
}
867.9.24={
father=1700
dynasty=644
}
906.1.9={
add_spouse=1703
}
912.5.1={
death="912.5.1"
}
}
It's up for debate whether or not they were Basil or Michael's children. I'd honestly rather leave them as they are.

Fair enough, it's your mod. Personally, I think they were Basil's children, but the circumstances of their birth and Constantine's death made Basil paranoid in his last years. I'm not saying what I've posted is historically accurate. I just posted the code for anyone else (history junkies like me) who thought Leo might have been Michael's son, or who likes to keep all possibilities in mind. It does work. Leo shows up as Michael's son and heir in TOG bookmark, and as Basil's son in the Macedonian bookmark.

Do you have an ETA for the update?
I'll be updating the mod later with some bug fixes, non-tribal Russians after 769 and a retinue re-overhaul, but I don't know when Arc's work will be integrated. It's up to him really, I'm waiting for him to accept my invite to join the mod team on the Steam Workshop page.

Excuse me (and sorry to bother you), but will there be any titles or flavor events for Roman Gaul and Hispania? I would love to play as the Gallic Empire.

I would like to portray the Gallic Empire but I'm not really sure if it would fit in here. It could be a goal for dukes or kings in Roman-controlled Gaul/France but I don't know if it's would make very much sense in CK2's time period.

I've updated the mod for the new beta patch. I'm aiming to get Hellenism finished, Imperial Legacy integrated, and retinues overhauled before Christmas.

As soon as I've sorted out in my head how I'm going to portray it.
Problem is that Hellenism was along dead religion and Christianity and Islam were much stronger than Hellenism ever was. Christianity already gave ruler an ultimate mandate to rule all people in name of God so Hellenism can not give more power to ruler. Some historical parallel of revieve old religion could be taken from China, first revieve of Confucianism and second revieve of Taoism during Tang dynasty. Revieve of Hellenism would be a nice end game task, after most of Rome is beign united.

So what kind of religion would Hellenism be? First you should reform it but it should be very easy with a huge empire. Only one Hellenistic religion would be really boring so I suggest three different path: Neo-Hellenism (Concubinage, sex-equility, holy wars) Old-Hellenism (divine blood, excommunication, can hold temples, free divorce) and Classic-Hellenism (can hold temples, free divorce, excommunication, polygamy). There would be no heresies of Hellenism but maybe low religious authority should spawn Christianity.

Those are some good ideas. I'll factor them in when I'm working on it.

Now I think about it again, how about rename Roman culture into Hellenistic culture or Hellenic? Latin as a spoken language was along dead and if Byzantine manages reconquer back old Roman Empire it would be unlikely that Latin language would be revieved. Instead of Greek language would be used because it is an imperial language, so Hellenic culture would present new cosmopolitane culture mixed of all Mediterranean cultures.

About Hellenism more: how about make it work like Hindu/Budd religion this game? Indian religions are not my strongest point but there could be one religion and different path on it. Also it would make map look more tidy instead of three different religion.

Latin was still spoken in the west in mass and by the elite. The idea behind the conversion decision is that you're enforcing this language upon the people you've conquered. I'm planning for the decision to move the Roman and Greek cultures into a new Classical culture group. I'll also be renaming the Byzantine culture group to Eastern. I was also considering adding a Thracian culture to Moesia in 769 but the Thracians had been Hellenised by then. In regards to Hellenism I'm intending to represent it as a mix of faiths rather than a proper religion, similar to how (As you said) Hinduism is described in CK2. I plan to have different events for both Greek and Roman Hellenic rulers which reference Jupiter, Zeus or whoever was relevant to them.

Well,Hellenism gives you the legitimacy of being seen as a living god. The Hellenic rulers in the east were able to legitimize themselves as some sort of living god. The Seleucids certainly did. Alexander the Great certainly did. The Roman Emperors also did that. It gives you way more authority than the Christian rulers who had to compete power with the Church.

Someone in the Hellenism discussion on the mod page suggested events to declare yourself or your ancestor a demigod similar to how the Senate would deify former Roman Emperors. I don't know if it's possible but I'll certainly give it a try.

The fact that you can't reinstate kingdom governates until later doesn't make much sense while I'm sure that some technology was lost, I'm pretty sure there were recordings of how the provincial system worked, so maybe there should be a decision to reinstate the provincial system with financial cost and the perquisite that the theme system be active, and all strategos become either hereditary douxs or become appointed by the provincial governors.

You can already appoint kingdom-level governors as Byzantium though?

no it starts as duchy vassals and in the old gods you can't appoint kingdom level vassals since legalism does not start at four.

in fact why not have legalism raised for countries that historically were at that level, for example the agalabids and tuluids were appointed governors until they managed to finally secure continued inheritance at which point they stopped deferring to the caliph in Baghdad
