Don't worry there is mod during migration period. This is When the World Stopped Making Sense. I think it is preety good. It can be better, of course, but it is beta.
That is true and they are allowed to use the work here and I have been giving loup some advice on how to fix some stuff.

While it's saddening to see that my one reason for playing CK2 is now gone, this move to EU4 got me thinking. There is a relatively new mod for EU4 called Roma Universalis that, once it's finished, will cover the rise of Alexander the great and the Imperial period of Rome, and thereaper84 (the mod developer's paradox plaza name) hopes to extend the timeline even further to the early middle ages. This is probably wishful thinking, but if you are going to move this mod to EU4, I think it would be awesome if you could get in touch with their team and see if you could possibly merge your projects together to make one truly expansive mod that covers most of European history. Just putting that out there in case anyone's interested. :)

That's a damn shame, I've been waiting since last year for the mod to update. Oh well, if it can't be done, it can't be done I guess.

But I'm inclined to agree that CK2 is not great for representing the Roman Empire, or anything before the High Middle Ages (which is the vanilla game). I get annoyed from time to time when playing Byzantine/Roman Empire and that the government type is feudal, amongst other things. I do like your showcase of the "Imperial" government type, but I imagine it can be a hassle managing every county.

Also after like 100 hours of playing CK2Plus as Roman Empire (since they have Roman province kingdom tier titles, which is quite nice), I gave up completely, since the vanilla mechanics just doesn't feel right for the playthrough. I played Extended Timeline as the Roman Empire, and while it was nice, the world felt bland. So I'm quite interested in an EU4 mod, if you'll include all the mechanics you planned for CK2.

Will you be making a thread on the EU4 forum?

Yes, a thread will be made. What you said regarding the EL mod is exactly what we want to fix in our mod.

The de jure system that CK2 uses also makes it impossible to properly represent different time periods. Bavaria and Bohemia, for example, would never have looked right as Noricum and Hercynia. CK2 is designed to suit one time period only, and even then, it does a poor job of doing that.

Yes the last version of CK2 is pratically impossible to mod!
I'm struggling with "The Empires of God" to add a Senatorial Republic as they promised that the governments are moddable should be easy right? Well it is not if you add more that 6 Patrician after a month the excess one disappear: Game Over! The new governments are never applied automatically as potential in government does not test all as in events / decisions (why? Efficiency they said!) so you need to force the engine using the command in history / events.
I concord history is a total mess and add a province is a nightmare as you should fill it with all the holder from 768 to 1433 and how to find them? Who was their father, mother, sister, brother?

Yes CK2 is now broken they added "The Republic" forcing an engine that was tough to be only feudal to have not feudal character (but Patricians are "feudal" in reality it is only a Kludge), then they have added tribals (again feudal in disguise), nomads (why the liege should always be an Emperor? I don't know but then it is unusable for other things... nomads are feudal in disguise too!).

As EUIV is EUIII done right we can hope than CKIII will be CKII done right integrating all the present DLC so with true Republican characters, true tribals, true nomads really moddable governments from the start.

Nevertheless I continue to like the character based gameplay of CKII: I'm playing Austria in EUIV now that they have added ranks is better (all Kings? This does not makes sense) but playing as Hapsburg and can not do the "real" marriage game as in CK2 makes the game annoying and bland.
Maybe in future a middle ground between the two types of games will be possible? Maybe EUIV will add characters portraits and dynasty play in future? In the end EU - Rome had portraits, CK2 has portrait and Stellaris too will have portrait so... and they have shown to have the capacity to add new functionality to change the game totally in EUIV so I don't see this totally impossible.

However the development of "The Empires of God" will continue and I wait for the release of the last beta of "Project Augustus" to see if I could integrate its content.
With the authors permission obviously!

Yes I'm using it in "The Empires of God" to make de jure title changing dynamically but it is a pain in the ass and some thing does not work for example I'd liked to change to substitute totally the "Duchy of Latium" with "The Commune of Rome" after the war was won well the event worked correctly Rome, Orvieto and Orbetello were de jure vassals of "The Commune of Rome" then I saved the game and reloaded and bam! The Duchy of Latium that should have been titular reappeared magically so you could change de jure for Kingdoms and Empires but not for Duchies it seems.
The tier rigidity is a limit too as for my mod I liked to do the Praetorians of Empire rank under an High Emperor: The Emperor of the Romans as it is what they in reality were! I liked to have the concepts of "divide the Empire" with a Senior and Junior Emperor and maybe a full Tetrarchy but the engine is limit me...

Maybe I could accomplish this using the tributary mechanic hoping to not be bitten by more bugs that needed.

When I get sometime I'll put up one wiht some fixes, everything can be used excluding the crusade system and the territory system. The crusade system is from CKII+ (well I think its modified from them, but ask them not us to use that) The territory system we ask not to be used by others mods as well.

The issue with the de jure system is that provinces changed name and size throughout the game. CK2's map is a crude version of CK1's original map, which was (Very badly) suited to the high medieval era. You can't have Roman borders with a medieval map, you know? Especially one that is wrong. EUIV is better in this regard because you can easily add more provinces to represent different time periods.
