Idk, would this be a good idea? A nice touch of realism, or more silly unnecessary details not needed for enjoying the game? And would such scripting bog down performance too much?
I was thinking of trying to write a non invasive script for handling pregnancies in a more realistic manner; rather than always being born precisely nine months after conception, time of birth is random, though most of the time they will be born within a few days of the 9 month mark. There is a chance for premature birth; babies born premature (3+ weeks early) will almost always be sickly and have a much higher chance of being stillborn. Since these are medieval times, babies born before the 7 month threshold will always be stillborn.
I also thought of adding marriage related checks and fixes - i.e, a pregnant widow who remarries before her kid is born won't get slapped with adultery accusations, and the child will properly inherit the dead father's claims and titles (i.e if the dead King's nephew inherits his crown but then his widow gives birth to his son, the nephew gets the boot and is automatically replaced by the new baby). A child conceived out of wedlock but born after the parents have married matrilineally also doesn't get treated like a bastard and will be part of the mother's dynasty (this always annoyed the hell out of me). I was also thinking of adding the possibility of a minor scandal for Christian characters, if a full term baby is born just a little too soon to a newlywed couple, they might be accused of having had premarital sex.
I don't know. Is this something people think would be a good addition? And would the script be likely to cause performance issues? I wouldn't think so, since from my experience there generally aren't that many pregnant characters in the whole world at any given time, but IDK.
