I don't understand your problem with lacking updates?

"Mod of the Month" should denote the mod with the highest quality work within that specific month, in my personal opinion.

Otherwise, we should call it, "Darkest Hour User Modifications Hall of Fame" with new entries every month (or, something like that).

No, I disagree. If it were the way you say, then it should be called "Most improved mod of the month" :p What if the mod is already highly polished, not much work there, so... Or if a mod were to have a billion bugs and within a month they tone it down to "only" a million, it would still make the mod VERY unplayable, although according to you it should be mod of the month cause of the sheer amount of improvement and quality work that went into it...

But arguing semantics here. For me, it is the mod I have most fun playing. FoDD & AAR FTW! :)

Well, think about it this way. When you have an "Employee of the Month" in a workplace, what does it denote? The employee with the best work ethic for that specific month.
Who cares that Sarah was the best salesperson half a year ago, or that John, who left last month (making a point about your argument of "highly polished" mods), was considered the best worker of all time?

You cannot compare it to a workplace on so many levels... don't go mixing apples and oranges. Just to give you an example and then lets drop it - apparently, according to you, there is no point in posthumously giving awards then. Somebody who is dead cannot do anything, so... what if that persons actions at the beginning of the month were exemplary and then they died (i.e. a soldier saving 5 lives by covering a grenade with his body). Another soldier has a whole month to be better - so he saved 10 soldiers by dragging them out when they were injured. Obviously, 1st guy is an idiot to kill himself. Just drop it, there is no point in mixing that in.

And you kinda also made my point - if somebody was top gun before the "award" is instated, does that mean they don't matter anymore? No, they're gonna get the prize on the account of their previous accomplishments (as long as they're decent now). Doesn't matter if it's employee of the month, World Footballer of the year, Nobel prize winner or anything else.

Many mods existed way before "mod of the month" was established. Some of them existed on games released way before DH. Some are highly polished and old, others new and buggy. What matters most is what you have fun playing. As I said above, I prefer certain mods, eventhough there haven't been any patches released for a while for either of them.

Again, semantics. You have your opinion, I have mine. Simple as that. I vote for the mod I have fun with.

And comparing to soldiers and association football players is not mixing apples and oranges?
The point I was making that you said I "kinda already said" you interpreted wrong. I was trying to say that past work is irrelevant.

I think "Mod of the Month" reflects, basically, the mod with the highest quality of work within the confines of the month, whilst you consider it to mean the "best" mod that's out there in that specific month. If you take the latter position, I find that we're just going to run down a list of larger mods that are most popular until you get to the end. In this way, we already know how it's going to end up. NWO2 is probably going to win this month, than your FODD will probably win next month, followed by Space Race, et sic in infinitum.
Small mods, such as the Latvian improvement mod, will never really stand a chance (until we run out of everything else).

You and I are eternally bound to disagree, it seems. It all comes down to how the other folks will interpret the meaning there-of. :)

EDIT: I seem to be playing "Devil's Advocate" a lot lately, don't know how that came to be me, haha. Perhaps I'm just rather opinionated.

Exactly why I used it, to show flaws :)
I was trying to say that past work is irrelevant.
And I'm saying it shouldn't be and isn't when certain things are concerned.
Small mods, such as the Latvian improvement mod, will never really stand a chance (until we run out of everything else).
Or until it becomes so good/big that it will be in there.
You and I are eternally bound to disagree, it seems. It all comes down to how the other folks will interpret the meaning there-of. :)
On this topic - indeed :) As I stated previously, it is a difference of opinion and no hard feelings there. We are all different and that's the way I like it. I just hate it when the only thing people do when other opinions are concerned is start cussing, swearing and saying "I got a bigger weener than you"... Very constructive. Nice debating with you though Arnold *thumbs up*

Take care, lets hope FoDD does get it next month ;) :D

The 'Mod of the Month Vote' works, it does what it was intended to do:
Not compare and make a hierarchy of mods, but to only showcase a mod a month.

The devs may as well randomly nominate a mod, but they delegated this choice to players. Players have the choice and its not their fault people vote for the most popular, and not always the most innovative/original/complex/extensive/etc...
