New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary 3: Maps of the Old World
Hello everyone, and welcome to a new Dev Diary that we will use to introduce more of the changes coming for 0.3. In this case, we present the map changes you will find all throughout the map in the coming version. This Dev Diary will particularly focus on the images, so pardon for the presentation being less extensive than usual.

BETTER ISLANDS

Doggerland has been reworked to be flat and corresponding better to the area of the North Sea it represents. This change is minimal, but it meant adding provinces and a new island to the new archipelago. Meanwhile, the Channel Islands now include all four of them.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
Moving to India, the main change comes to Sri Lanka. The Island has been expanded heavily, with more provinces than it had before. This will ensure a more varied gameplay on it as the various rulers of the island fight for control.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
Finally, we can observe the changes in Sicilia, and in particular the addition of the peak of Mount Etna. New events relate to the major eruptions of this volcano that will take place throughout the game, so keep an eye on this location…

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
GREEN NORTH AND SOUTH

Another edit to the map has been in terms of editing the terrain in some regions. Particularly, South of the Sahara we find greener regions than the older map, due to a more precise rendition of the desert’s limits.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
Meanwhile, a forest has been added in Iceland, in the region where today is located Hallormsstaðaskógur, the only National Forest of the island.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
MORE NEW PROVINCES

This isn’t, however, the sole extent of the map changes. Of course, new provinces have been added throughout the map. A very important change for the balance is the doubling of the provinces of Bhutan, under the Thunder Dragon Empire. Moving from two to four, the Empire is now more powerful, so stay prepared: the awakening of the Dragon now can truly shake the land.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
Meanwhile, up in Xinjiang, a new province now crosses the desert, allowing passage between the previously separated provinces of Aksu and Hotan. Two provinces further have been added south of Hotan.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
Back on the Caucasus, another new province sees Astrakhan now independent from the Defenders of the People, ruled by an isolated Zarist ruler. Of course, the Defenders of the People control now the new province of Akkystau. The Caucasus as a whole sees many changes in terms of provinces, reflecting a more post-apocalyptic division of the region.

MOUNTAINS AND BORDERS

The redesign also took care of reworking the mountains throughout the map to be as close as possible to the real world in terms of both scale and position. The result of this work is a map of the Middle East that presents far more accurate altitudes than vanilla.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World

As we can see, this also adds a large border between the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East, making wars between the two sides far more gruesome affairs, given the lack of passes between much of them. Taking the few existing counties that allow the crossing is now a main goal of any campaign in the region.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Maps of the Old World
The rework effect is visible all over the map, as you can see in the pictures below.

We hope those map changes will make our players interested in playing in the newly changed regions and excited to explore the world. See you soon for the next Dev Diary everyone.

New Era Old World 0.3 Final Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Hello everyone! Today, we have our final DD for you all, along with some big news! First of all, and straight out of the gate, allow me to announce that New Era – Old World 0.3 for CK2 will be officially released tomorrow, Sunday the 19th, at 6 PM CET. We hope this surprise announcement is not too sudden, but I’m sure our players on the discord server, particularly those that were allowed to try the mod, will agree this was a long time coming.

And now, let us go through a special DD that focuses on introducing, without a particular theme, just some fun or interesting changes to the mod.

NEW FAITHS

First of all, two new faiths have been added: The Jewish Congregationist Faith (and the Federationist heresy) and the Navayana branch of Buddhism.

Congregationism is now the main faith of northern and central Europe among the Jewish population. Strengthened by their strong bond with the British crown, the Congregationist faith stands as a pillar for all practitioners of Judaism in northern Europe. However, some members of the faith see them as too subservient to the Empire, and thus, the Federationists are born.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Meanwhile, in India, we finally complete the representation of all pre-Event Buddhist branches, with the addition of the Navayana school of Buddhism. Navayana is a modern branch of Buddhism that was born mere decades before the Event. This faith has a very interesting history and represents an attempt at removing the esoteric influences on Buddhism.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
And on a side note, Buddhism travels on the merchant roads of the world now. Some people have already found the faith appealing…

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
KALEVALALAULU

Speaking of religions, a good observation should be given to Finland. The Finnish faith has been reworked from the ground up, ensuring it now is clearly separated from the vanilla Suomenusko faith. Kalevalalaulu, as it’s now called, makes far more clear the heavy influences that the Kalevala, the national epic of Finland, has on the faith, including their new religious icon being based on the Sampo. Singing is now a very important part of Finnish religion, as I’m sure any player that tries them will be fast to find out. May you receive the Kantele and best your opponents in all kind of duels.

TREASURING THE TREASURY

New artifacts also appear in this version of the game. To accompany the legendary Durendal, Joyeuse and Cortana now can be wielded by the rightful followers of Novelism… or by their enemies, if they so choose. Still, perhaps the Novelist Kings will one day see the three swords reunited.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Meanwhile, three precious paintings have been gifted to various rulers by the legendary novelist painter Atanamir Morin. This famous artist has travelled far and wide, from Andorra to the Thunder Dragon Empire, to see and draw the beauty of the known world. Maybe, in the future, more of his paintings shall appear in other people’s treasuries…

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Those are not the only new artifacts you will be given, but let’s not ruin all the surprise.

NEW TERRAINS, MASKS FOR ALL AND MORE GRAPHICS

A new terrain has been added to the game: the Tell. This terrain, representing territories that before the Event were covered by the large buildings of the ancient civilization and now are covered by uneven hill-like heights, the result of 500 years of nature reclaiming those areas around the big city that just could not be reoccupied, is notable not only for this, but also for what hides under the ground: it isn’t uncommon for those whose capital is a Tell to see their subjects present to them treasures of the old world…

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Also, all terrains now present personalized descriptions

On a more amusing note, perhaps, a few cultures now make use of masks as part of their clothing. Most notably, the Venetian culture now has every ruler wear a mask. Unfortunately we cannot represent the sheer variety of the venetian carnival masks, but we made sure that each rank has a unique coloration for their masks, from the humble Baron to the powerful Emperor.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
And they are not the only ones: the Drukian Guard, far in the Thunder Dragon Empire, now presents as part of their armor a golden mask, meant to show their opponents that they are truly facing the Dragon when facing Bhutan.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Another interesting graphic change comes from the art of empty holdings: as you might notice, the ruins of the old world are still there, ready to be rebuilt by a powerful ruler.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
TRADE ROUTES FROM THE WEST

There are now two new trade routes through the globe, as part of our work to make our setting interconnected with the Americas of NEOW.

The Northern Sea Trade comes from the American Empire through the northern land of Greenland. It is through this trade route that the Greenlanders under Lief Sisimiutssen first landed in the island of Iceland, and some now fear what more might come from the northern seas.

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
Meanwhile, in Africa, exchange between Nigeria and the Brazilian Kingdoms has generated a new African trade route, that connects Morocco to the lands surrounding the Gambia. A powerful boon to any ruler on the coast… and an enticing target for the Azorean Pirates.

NOTES ON THE FUTURE: CK3 AND CK2

So, I wish to conclude this Dev Diary with news on the future of the mod. First of all, I will say that moving to CK3 has been put on hold. We are still looking into it, but the recent announcement on how the game seems to be going in the direction of heavy 3D graphics usage makes us a bit more hesitant in moving there.

However, that doesn’t mean the future isn’t still full of surprises for the mod, with CK2 development of 0.4 already underway. After all, I said it once and I’ll say it again. When we said all of the Old World…

r/NewEraOldWorld - New Era Old World 0.3 Dev Diary: Release, new content and the future
We really meant all of the Old World.

See you on the 19th for the official release of 0.3!

Glad to heard that! But when I try the new update, I find that some flags mess up, and the flag of Herzegovina is only black. Is this an issue?
That seems odd. Which version are you installing? Steam is known to cause problems to large mods, and if it's direct download it's even stranger.

Good thing you did it. I think I have some pretty good idea to freshen up some less interesting regions. Completely new religion I hope you will give it a read. I wrote quite a bit about that :)

I have tried both steam version and direct download version, both of them have problem with flags being messed.

Edit: Solved. just replace old version .mod file with new version one.

New Era Old World 0.3.1 release (hotfix)
Releasing hotfix 0.3.1, which handles the bugs that have been pointed out to us in the last week. Please note that due to one of them being a map issue, the update is NOT save-compatible. The Changelog will arrive shortly. And remember to also vote on the ongoing poll, your suggestions are very important for us and some of them have actually been implemented in this very hotfix.

This is... petty weird.

1. Why are some empires named after rivers?
2. Greater Monoglia seems too greater... why does it include part of Shanxi province?
3. Traditionally, Jiangxi and Hunan province is not a part of Minyue.
4. Traditionally, Eastern Inner Monoglia is closer to Manchuria than Monoglia.
You know that it's postapo mod?

I will preface this by saying this is a sneak peek into the current draft of the mod. By the time Dev Diaries come out, I'm sure the region will be greatly changed. For example, Greater Mongolia having eaten northern Shanxi is surely going to be fixed, and the same argument might go for Eastern Inner Mongolia (though, I want to point out, Greater Mongolia might look big but that is more because the Kingdoms included in it have many very large provinces).

That said, the reason for the Yangtze and Zhujiang Empire is simply that grouping together the various Kingdoms (that are formed by today's Chinese provinces) is a bit hard due to the lack of historical precedence for an Empire-sized domain in the area that wasn't either China or not including more than one or two kingdoms and a series of nearby provinces. Thus, we did what is also done in CK2 for India: we add Empires that take the name from a common topographical element that ties together the Kingdoms (this is the same thing that is done for the Deccan Empire and the Ganges Empire). It might still change of course.

Version 0.3.2
Version 0.3.2 of the mod is now released. It largely deals with bugs previously present in the mod, makes the Shattered World completely playable, modernizes Iberia and Britain to increment immersion, adds new localization in said regions, introduces history for numerous new houses, adds new exclusive music through the Neow Music submod (that I heavily suggest playing with), adds a few new artifacts and more.
