Done a quick run-over with the validator, quite a few (4000+) hits. I was quite dumbfounded as to why this was, but then i took a look at the events. Oh dear.... :confused:

Yeah.. that explains the random blank events popping up. Thankfully most of the duplicate IDs were fixed by Rydelfox but the validator caught the remaining ones.
Issue is, there's still a few (3000+) other issues besides duplicate IDs, and the most difficult could be solved by remaking the magic system from the ground up.
On the other hand, the current magic system already has icons and localisation made, which would either be re-purposed or go to waste (deleted.)

I can't really decide whether to rip out the magic system and remake it, or to just try and make the old one work. so... Democracy to the rescue! :D
hopefully by the end of the day (10 PM CST) we will have a obvious decision. if not, well i guess it will be tomorrow then! ;)

I can try to take a look when I get home - if I recall correctly, a lot of them are things like "these random characters from AD 312 should be twins but aren't" or "This character born in year 1 was only 8 when they got married"

EDIT: Also, all of the "AND wrapper is unneccessary" ones can be ignored - they don't cause problems. Same for similar "OR wrapper is unneccessary"

Glad to have you here as ever, Rydel.;)
I assumed that the validator was just being a bit overzealous about the ANDs and ORs, but i wasn't sure. The random character things are so minor they aren't even issues, really.

So far i've been trying to fix the bugs to no avail, but then i got into contact with the other ex-dev - the one who doesn't have a forum account to my knowledge - and he explained some of the key issues:
  • Events in General should be remade due to messy code (This has already been done mostly)
  • Secret vampires/werewolves should be able to form societies
  • the werewolf units were broken somehow and did no damage (Attack and Def was 0), and their custom models occasionally crashed the game (Might be fixed?)
  • Most religions need to be redone
  • We need a discord to make working together easier <----- Doing this now. :cool:

Progress update for everyone interested: The mod is now running perfectly! Though we still can't sort out that greek portrait bug causing Zeus to be a (Master Seducer) baby.... :eek:

In other news, we are also moving to a new mod page, for reasons that the original dev will soon post (I don't want to steal his thunder), and also because this one kinda sucks.


Additionally, any suggestions for the next mod's version name? I think Slepnir sounds pretty good.

That's not Zeus in the PC portrait, just a Muslim count he's viewing Zeus's profile whilst playing as.

Can I suggest moving the draconic holy sites to say india or something?? it is awfully clustered around britain and scandinavia so would end up killing off the other flavoured races to expand :(

Given that Eastern dragons are the noble, intelligent variety, compared to the brutish Western monsters, having them much further east would also make thematic sense.

The dragons are mostly designed of western dragon, especially from Norse, English, and Welsh mythology. I have moved the draconic holy sites a bit, but mostly to increase conflict - Gwynedd's holy site was moved to Canterbury in Kent, so taking it will trigger the Crusades early, while also making them share fewer holy sites with Celtic Paganism.

The only new race that should come in heavy conflict with them due to their holy site locations are the giants - being based off Norse Jotnar, they'll mostly be in Scandinavia. Religion-wise, they'll mostly clash against Catholics and Norse pagans, who happen to have the most dragons as antagonists in stories any mythology, and a bit with Slavic and Celtic pagans and Jotnar. Moving the holy sites too far would given them issues reforming - the only pagan religion with holy sites spread out are the Aztecs, who get their whole Aztec-Invasion thing (or more likely, just get their DLC disabled).

I should wrap up most of the design work with dragons sometime this week, then work on balancing them a bit.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm mostly referring to dragons with the draconic culture and religion. There are some plans for others, and dragons with a chinese culture and religion better reflecting eastern dragons may get added in one start after Jade Dragon comes out.
