Diary #11 - Orders and Alliances

Hello everyone! It's been a while since the last diary, but I hope you'll like this one!
As you can see from the title, we'll talk a little about some new military orders and alliance systems in-game.

In the next update, you'll be able to play as "holy orders" with some realms. I'll show you the most important ones!

First of all, the "Legion of the Black Serpent". As the Emperor of the Tribes of Harad, you will be able to form this order and choose its commander.
The Legion of the Black Serpent will be one of the most powerful armies in-game, with access to heavy cavalry as well as powerful Mumakil. With them, you'll be able to defend your giant empire, and to defeat most enemies. But be careful: members of the Legion of the Black Serpent won't be able to inherit any other title anymore, and they are able to join some vassal revolts/factions. Their commander will hold two titles : the mercenary one - duchy level - and a King title. If the correct province is a part of your realm, he'll try to create a fortress too!


Some other military orders will be in-game too. For example, as Prince Imrahil you can now raise the Swan Knights of Dol Amroth. Only a holder of the "Swan Knight" trait will be able to lead this order, and the Knights will have a distinctive brand new helmet + armour in-game, so you'll see them directly from their portraits.

In addition, over in the mountains of the Longbeards the Iron Guard will be a strong reinforcement for the Dwarven realms.


But, even a strong order inside your realm won't be enough to fight against the Dark Lord's armies. If Sauron attacks a member of the Free Peoples, you'll have a chance to see and join a large alliance created to fight against this threat. Basically, the defender will choose to send a message to the White Council, to ask for reinforcements and help in this war. If the Leader of the White Council accepts this, an alliance between all the Free Peoples will be called. Some of them may refuse, but hopefully others may join you. At the same time, Sauron can decide to call all his legions, including Rhun, Harad, Umbar, Gundabad to come to war. This mechanic will simulate a massive war between good and evil factions. There's a small chance to see it triggered, but this chance exists


Also, as a member of the Free Peoples, you can decide whether to join a war against Sauron without the "massive alliance system". You just need enough prestige and piety, and you'll be able to ask the leader of the good realm to join their war and help. This will help "non-fighting" realms, like the elves of Cirdan for example, to play a part in the wars and fate of the Middle-Earth.

So, that was some of our newest work on wars/warriors/alliances for the next update. There's no release date at this time, but we'll try to complete it as soon as possible. It should be before the summer, so check back at this thread for more information about it!

Great mod, may I ask if there is a way to change the linking rules for armies: As a Dwarf of Erebor, it is far easier to have one's armies attach to the men of Dale rather than having to order it around myself, yet as an Emperor tier title, I cannot do that.

I seem to still be having issues with the map. I have the correct version of CKII and Way of Life is disabled but I still have sections of the map unassigned to anyone. Is there another DLC that needs to be disabled?

I seem to still be having issues with the map. I have the correct version of CKII and Way of Life is disabled but I still have sections of the map unassigned to anyone. Is there another DLC that needs to be disabled?

If its happening before you started a game, in the slection screen, it is fully normal. The empty spaces will be filled with "wilderness" when you start. If its even after starting, i dont know what is causing this.

One last question hopefully, when starting the CK2 launcher I'm unable to select the DLC tab and no DLC gets run at all when launching the mod. I'm guessing this is working the way it's supposed to but I'd like to make sure here before missing out on something. If this is working right, are there any plans for getting the mod up to snuff with all the DLC and current CK2 version sooner rather than later?

I think this is a bug with CK2, I have had this happen to me. Try validating your game files.

I think this is a bug with CK2, I have had this happen to me. Try validating your game files.
Tried that and it didn't work. Looked around in CK2 properties and all dlc are selected but Way of Life. Even with it selected the launcher won't let me access the dlc tab. I think it thinks there are no dlc available but I'm not sure why. An additional side-note; all my dlc has worked perfectly fine before and even when I was trying (mistakenly) to run this mod in the current version of CK2. It would seem the issue is with reverting to the older version which makes me wonder why other people seemingly don't have this issue. Maybe it's an .exe issue?
