He didn't exist :p
(I even started writting an article for a spanish cientifical mag a couple of months about the gallo-roman nobility and its identity. Most of the modern historians say he didn't exist. I can give you my sources :))
P.S: This goes for Enlil, it is obvious that this mod is fantasy and I like being able to play as Syagrius' kin

I would like to see those sources- I know that it's now thought Soissons was much smaller than it is often thought, but to throw Syagrius out entirely seems difficult to do, given he has a pretty established position in history courtesy of Gregory of Tours. While Gregory was a bit... religious, I don't see how you can discredit his historical work entirely.

I dislike using the word 'fantasy' to describe this mod- while some things are definitely out of place, like the extremely long survival of certain client kings or lack of cultural syncretism in some places, many of the other things are pretty feasible.

Yeah, this is hardly fantasy, I read the history thing on the front page, and I feel like I am reading real history. And besides, the Holy and Magnificent Prophet Shaytana has revealed the truth to his people, and when he returns at the end of time to judge all mods, I may only hope mine is worthy.

There are definitely some ASB elements to this mod, but overall it's pretty feasible.

Except for the bit with all of the migratory tribes being in the exact same location, more or less (with the exception of the Huns)- this was the only major thing that I found to be really just unbelievable. That, and the existence of Galatian culture.

Still, with this new expansion and the coming Sino-Hellenic invaders, we could use a western migratory mechanic. It's not like the nomads are just going to stay in the steppes and get wiped out by the Chinese. I was going to think of something at a later time, but if you think it could work, Enlil, maybe you could elaborate on it a bit more. Or provide a link plox :D

Enlil Makes an Official Looking Post:

What?

The Migration system in highly anticipated mod, masterwork of the gods, and award winning actress, When the World Making Sense is an interesting feature.

Based around a simple CB, the majority of the work is handled by behind the scenes events designed by the Imperial Heir, Zusk. (My mod works on Gavelkind, so in the event of my death, Zusk get's the mod title, while everything else is given to other people, Lux Invicta stands to inherit the Title History for Alexandria. http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/group.php?discussionid=1000&do=discuss)

When the war is declared, a balanced number of soldiers are raised from every province you own, in addition, there are a set of factors I am working on to discourage migration to Scandinavia by the AI. Your soldiers invade, and take over the lands which they conquered on their Migration. (Nothing More) At which point, they keep their event troops, and are prepared to begin a new age in a new home.

Why?

As you know, A migration period mod needs migrations.

Who?

Thank Zusk for this?

Where?

Migrations are currently commonplace among the Tengriist, Slavic, and Iranian pagans. Germanics are less likely, but the Lombards are a particularly uppity bunch at this time. Balts and Celts will unlock migrations under certain circumstances.

When?

Migrations for Germanics tend to decrease as time goes on.

And eventhough I like the mod, it is fantasy :p

I don't have access to the first source but several sources that cite it note that Syagrius is not mentioned in contemporary terms. The second source does the same thing, in essence, noting that Syagrius isn't mentioned in contemporary terms (on p.289). I think you are taking the conclusion of 'no contemporary mention' to a further logical extent than you should be, but that's just me. Gregory of Tours, like him or not, is the best and really the only good, fairly complete source for 5th century Gaul- if Syagrius doesn't exist because he has no contemporary mention, why not Merovech or Childeric?

I hope you see the point I am getting at.

it's not totally fantasy :D

I don't have access to the first source but several sources that cite it note that Syagrius is not mentioned in contemporary terms. The second source does the same thing, in essence, noting that Syagrius isn't mentioned in contemporary terms. I think you are taking the conclusion of 'no contemporary mention' to a further logical extent than you should be, but that's just me.

it's not totally fantasy :D
Mmh?

It cost me like 10 dollars in abebooks :p He goes as far as I do by saying that Syagrius didn't exist.
Yeah, well. There is only one source that didn't really know much about the era, no coins with the name... he might have existed, but it is hard to believe :p

I'll get a physical copy at some point and check it out, but it seems controversial to me to simply remove him from history entirely simply because the single source on Gaul is the only one that says he exists. Again, you could scrap Merovech for the exact same reason.

Sidonius Apollinar says hi. And well, a guy who sent letters to a romano-frankish ruler from Augusta Trevorum should have definetly done the same to a proper roman in Soissons :p
