But that'd make authority rather easy to cough up. I agree to the malus, but not the bonus

you'll be forced to do so in the future anyway, since paradox is withdrawing support for the gg versionDo I need the beta patch ? I don't want to activate my game on steam (gg Version)

A ruler's competency as a ruler directly effects his authority, I would think. A vassal would generally be more partial to listening to someone who knows what he is doing, instead of being a buffoon.
E: it could always be scaled so that the malus is more significant than the bonus. For example, Tier 1 could be -0.5, while the highest tier (4?) would get +0.25.
Btw, perhaps the opinion malus for low authority (I think that exists?) should be increased. ATM, low authority means you can't do anything, but it doesn't increase the chances of your vassals trying to depose you. Unless it does and I'm an idiot. I just remember my Incompetent ruler with a lot of health bonuses who refused to die and just wallowed in negative authority forever from all the Catastrophe modifiers, with all his vassals loving him because of the Long Ruler bonus. It was very boring.

I agree very much about a ruler's competency affecting their authority; but that should be based on their end attributes, not individual traits per se. He could be a hella commander but you give him a sword and he runs away because he's Craven and Fashionable and that hilt didn't go with his armor. Also... we shouldn't put maluses on all the lesser equivalents of good traits. Punishing someone for not being as good as the next guy is the same backwards-ass logic the American schooling system uses. The only exception, I would say, is the first of each of the job traits. They all seem to have negative connotations (especially Indulgent Wastrel), and I could see maybe a -0.5 authority modifier stuck on there.
I don't know if opinion and authority are linked normally, but we do have modifiers that associate opinion with low authority. I don't think it should be too powerful, though; someone with low authority isn't necessarily likely to be hated, but they are more likely to be taken advantage of or deposed due to their weakness. If someone isn't a tyrant, that shouldn't be cause for disdain. How strong is the opinion malus right now, riknap?
New patch that was put out by PI looks pretty good, guys, but there is a CTD error that keeps happening upon selecting different characters & starting dates that I believe is related to title existence and vacancy. I'm not sure what the grand plan is, but should probably wait to put it out until they iron that one out with a hotfix.
so I'm the only one who can't even get to the main menu huh?
I say bloody conspiracy!![]()
Odd... LI worked perfectly for me when I last had the chance to test it with 2.02 (mind you, the patch, not the betas). Make sure you've updated to the actual patch.
The crash Polskers mentioned is indeed happening to some people, as far as I can see, but it apparently occurs if you cycle through startdates/save games too fast. It's something on Paradox' side.
Since LI has only one start date, it shouldn't affect us much.

no to mention I can play vanilla just fine (aside from my previous ironman save as Serene Doge of Sicily somehow now being read as Bishopric of Amalfi  )
maybe my computer is special. maybe it's the chosen one.

I think it is you who is the chosen one
(As far as these issues. I'm the chosen one of vehicular malfunctions, for instance.)
You've got the same Lux files as the rest of us, yet we don't crash and you do. Or you and whoever else is crashing. It's not vanilla since that works fine, so reinstalling would probably not fix it. One of three things I can think of: 1) The obvious: your game files do not match the latest working version, but you're smart and would think of that. Moving on. 2) Your logs/gfx/map caches for Lux are old and causing problems. Delete zem. 3) Yer not running the latest 2.0.2 patch, which the latest version of the SVN is compatible with.
Also, I think the long ruler bonus keeps going until your character dies. Thus, long rulers are oft the most beloved. True indeed.
I wish I could actually start a game to see just how much SOA changed stuff though :rofl:I started a game as some of the pagans in the north of England (King Owein), and found that I had zero troops. No demesne levies, no vassal levies. The reason was my -200% levy modifier from my leader's martial ability -- despite having 24 martial!!! It was frustrating.
