Reading the excellent timeline by Shaytana and seeing the recent devil child event in SoA gave me an idea for an adaption of the event that could be fun in LI - in the timeline, it seems like half the Solar-Impera emperors are utterly insane and certain theyre a god made flesh, perhaps the event could be adapted to help portray some of these special cases? My emperors have been far too normal, need a few Caligulas thrown in !!

I would like to make another suggestion for the devil child chain. What if for the Angra Mainyu, and Ahrimanic religons we had an event chain were the child is from Ahura Mazda. Instead of really evil traits the child could have really good traits. I would love to see how the followers of Angra would react to this.

Another suggestion I would like to put in is for traits like honest to give negative piety to those two religions. As wouldn't they pretty much have the opposite morals from the Zoroastrians.

They're not so much an "evil satanic Hollywood" cult as they are just guys who, due to great enmity to the Sassanids in the Parthian case, have taken to worship the juxtaposing force that of the Persians worship. Same with Ahrimanism and the Avars, probably the nearby Manichean Germans have done some wrong to this specific tribe of Avars (since the ones near the Caucasus are Mani-Tengriists I believe) and they've taken to the worship of Ahriman just to get an occasion to defile the Manichean sacred beliefs out of spite. Or the Eosphorists, who are an anti-Christian radical sect of Mithraism who worship, yup, Lucifer of all people on his "Lightbringer" aspect, and are opposed to the "tyrant god Yahweh" of the Christians.

In any case, defying my previous commentary, I'm already tweaking the Demon child event chain so that it randomly converts to one of the "evil religions" (be them Persian, Norse, or whatever)... and when/if he grows enough to be a threat, maybe a foretold warrior of Light from one of the radical messianic "good" religions will rise to counter him... which is not exactly good.

In any case, that would be a rare event as it is in vanilla.... I don't want a war of darkness VS light final battle as LIs endgame. This is not (completely) a fantasy mod.

The event that brings a Teotl guy over, and the one that gives you the option of embracing a new religion, becoming zealous or cynical happen an aweful lot. Ireland alone so far had rulers that were: Zoroastrian, Lughite, Druidic, Teotli, Manichean, Hibernicist, Forn Sidric, Buddist, Indo Hellenic, Pyromantic, Eosphorist, a kind of Mithra based religion and another form of Buddism. (Though Lughite, Hibernicist, Druidic and Forn Sidric are local)

About 10% of the people in my realm right now is Nahuatlacal (None of whom actually contribute much except for being sacrificed ), with another 20-30% being Uyghurs, Gandha and Parsa.

Otherwise I am having a great time, and Shaytana is helping me convert the heretics and heathens as my High Priest.

Yup... I slipped on that one. Instead of setting the mtth to 50 years I set it to 50 days... soo... yeah, aweful lot of conversions. If you want to disable them, go to the on_actions file in lux invicta/common/on_actions and delete both luxrandom entries.

- yes let's not get, well, manichean about 'evil' religions. Think Genghis Khan IRL: he killed hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, yet he had a very strict sense of morality and ethics. The fact that Ancient Persians considered that their enemy represented "the Land of Lies"... does not mean that Ahrimanists would accept that notion. They would, on the contrary, accuse Zoroastrians and their own enemies of have embraced the Lie. Beside a ruler is a ruler, whatever his/her religions, and will not enjoy that his vassal/counselor/boos lies to him/her...

- SirKulinski, please go ahead with your project, but do not try to localize it with specific names for all religions... unnecessary pain. You can use the "Name of God" localization to write in your event something like "A majestic place of worship for [GOD] where the wisest of all will devote their entire lives to study [SCRIPTURES]' or something like that.

- spotted a bug related to decision scripting:

- @ riknap: I think it is fine to keep the "send to monastery" mechanic to Christian religions only. I can't really see an equivalent in other religious systems. And even those well established, part of the Pentarchy. A Norse Scandinist brother will not get meekly tamed by peaceful monks so easily...

- for the time being, I don't see anything urgent for SELIN anymore, so I am considering devoting my attention to "cosmetics" (first clean up the tool tip, then working on descriptions), think about Holy Orders and other items in my Work Plan.

- @ Futuregary: I remember you had started work on the Holy Orders, let's not undo your preparatory work... so I'd be happy to get your input on that before we get serious. + message from SVN received: I'll follow up by email on the topic of Matrix update. It has evolved since 11.02 with even typology changes, but it is not clean now as I use a mixture of your own and my versions, so new it is very messy; I'll clean up my version and then send it to you so that you can work on it.

It would actually work for any Buddhist or Hindu - ie. Indian - religions you guys have. In our timeline historically people would sometimes retire to monasteries because they wanted to, and particuarly for Buddhism sometimes retiring to a monastery or temple was a way to save face when you were defeated politically, or as an alternative to exile or something. Granted I am extremely over generalizing here but whatever.

Yeah I thought of Buddhism actually as a strong candidate, but ruled it out because my limited knowledge of its "political practice" did not allow me to seriously suggest including it... but if you say so then so be it!

If we want to stretch it, we could also include the Neoplatonic group.

And some day someone has to use the existing mechanics to model the great role monasteries played in CK2's time-line, almost autonomously from the official Church as well as from earthly rulers... remember all medieval monasteries accepting Cluny's authority... Buddhism would really gain a lot also from such mechanic... OK just daydreaming anyway

The "send to monastery" diplomacy action uses an on_action trigger, so we can put literally whatever we want there; forcefully retire someone to a Buddhist monastery, sending someone to the Neoplatonic academy (which will finally help my Athenoi Akademia events get rolling!), with the right religion as trigger requirement.

By the way Numahr, could you draft me a list (or tell me which souls) of religions that should get the "blood sacrifice" perk in the SELIN matrix? I mean to adapt the Aztec's event for sacrificing prisoners for piety/when they successfully siege a fort to those religions.

@Numahr Yeah, having one original name per holy site for every religion might be a bit much... I do want at least one with an original one in their most important holy site and the others could be "generics".

Edit: Where you still interested in the changing of the name of the holy site? I could integrate that after you do the event chain and upon completion it changes to the relevant religion holy site name.

And on the note of that decision bug, whenever I loaded my very unintrusive mod I had it too, might be something unexpected to torment the modders. :(
Just adding 2 titular empires with their flags and a localisation, pre-2.0 game so there might be something... Ah just checked with a new game it does the same.

Personally, once SOA gets integrated, I'm planning to do a little religion-specific modding and then start over the Indo-Hellenic Hindu game I'm currently mopping up. I think it's one of the most interesting religions, really, and it's certainly one of the ones where you can most easily justify the kitchen sink approach, which always makes for interesting interpretation, come AAR-writing.

Oh, I shan't forget them. I actually took about five hundred just from this game, 'cause I'd considered maybe writing an AAR there. Still, despite some good moments (like having the daughter of the lover of my empress, who became the lover of said empress herself after her mother's death, become empress herself; it was all slightly incestuous), I was still learning the mod, so I figured I'd best wait. Also, I need to do some research about the origins of the Kali worship - in order to maximize the !!Fun!! quotient of an enatic Hellenic Hindu empire, I really need to have the imperial family convert to a hybridized and heretical Kali-Hecatian subsect. I mean, come on, it's so cheesy, how could I resist?

Ideally, a rival empire would arise simultaneously in the north, feature a bastardization of celtic druidism and old norse paganism, but if that was to happen, I'd need someone to play with, and I don't really think I'll be up for that commitment. Still, one can dream.

Aye, we could do with more Indo-Hellenic and Celtic faiths, in fact, I had a similar syncretic Norse-Celtic religion and a "monotheistic" Celtic religion following the Morrigan ideas for new religions, alas, we don't have enough space to the East or in the British Isles.

Ah, but that is where I have an advantage. You modders have to do what is best for the mod as a whole, whereas I can tinker with what suits the specific game I wish to play ^_^

Also, I just found a thesis featuring more than a hundred and fifty pages of comparative analysis of Hecate and Kali. This syncretistic cult is definitely gonna happen.

EDIT: Mind you, it's contemporary Hindu religious practices, with emphasis on South Africa, but I figure I can still salvage enough to make it workable.

Yup... I slipped on that one. Instead of setting the mtth to 50 years I set it to 50 days... soo... yeah, aweful lot of conversions. If you want to disable them, go to the on_actions file in lux invicta/common/on_actions and delete both luxrandom entries.

Don't worry, means I have to do less raiding to have enough sacrifices.

A more pressing issue appeared, however. My whole game slowed down to a crawl all of a sudden around 1120 where it takes about 3-4 seconds per day now on max speed, each turning of the days acompaned by an obvious ''everyone freeze'' - and go.

That's probably because the events, they're spawning thousand of characters every x days. And the game's allocated RAM has to account for all those characters, thus the slowdown. Besides... LI is comparatively slow to other full conversion mods (Like EK or AGoT) because basically we haven't taken yet to optimize the mod (lack of time or otherwise).

Strange, it all went smooth (Max speed LI is about speed 3-4 on CKII vanilla for me) and from one day to the next it became unplayable.

I actually noticed this as well in my last observe game a couple of weeks ago - early on, ie. during startup speeds were quite normal, but around mid 12th century or so each day seem take several seconds when I loaded the autosave (since the game crashed, as expected) - this was actually kinda half the reason why I couldn't get myself to be in the mood for modding in the break, since I couldn't enjoy playtesting it myself (and I'd rather not start all the way early-game but rather do so mid-game once the AI realms have stretched a bit).

that said, are you using the SVN version, or the released pre-SOA alpha?
