Hey folks let's meet in Dominion 4! I am Numahr there too, active (as in lurking) on the official and Invision forum

On Wotanism and balance
DarkReborn is right that each religion gets its features based on its characteristics. For example Graeco-Roman and Wotanist both have a
Traditional Soul and get the same modifiers for that, as all Traditional-Soul religions. Wotanist is a
Germanic religion and gets a set of modifiers common to all Germanic (to all "Barbarian" actually) religions. Wotanist is a
local creed. And finally, Wotanist are influenced by the
Norse civilization, which affects it at 50% of Norse modifiers (which contributes to the "extreme" feel of it).
Here are some advantages Wotanist gets (some not implemented as of now):
- 25% bonus in armies' morale
- a generic 10% levy size increase for the whole realm in addition to holding-specific bonii
- in addition, a 20% levy increase in each province of that faith (so 30% total if all your realm is Wotanist)
- Another 20% to levy size from castles (+50% total if you cumulate all bonii)
- the possibility to hold temple holdings
- a small reduction in revolt risk
- 40% more levy from noble vassals (applies to laws, not to the total size of levies, ensures that noble vassals give more of their levies to you)
- +5 in Martial (balanced by the other attribute modifiers)
Do these bonii give you any indication of the playstyle advised for a Wotanist realm?
Then the big malus you did not mention means that Wotanist armies can actually be defeated in war by skilled enemies: the -85% in land organisation. That means that Wotanist armies gain back lost morale at a very low rate. So combine that and low taxes and you have fearful armies, very competitive for the first shock, but not good to fight long sustained wars. If you look at Hellenic realms, they have smaller armies but perfect for long wars.
Not: not all these modifiers are implemented as I describe them right now.
