Could you please change the Serbian (Srbin) cultural name for the Spymaster - Majstor Špijun, with Vrhovni Špijun?
"Majstor" does not mean "master", and therefore the name makes no sense. "Majstor" also doesn't mark any sort of authority, and is usually used as a term for someone who builds or improves buildings (plumbers and the like) :D.
"Vrhovni" means "top", but in a hierarchical sense.
Therefore Vrhovni Špijun = Top Spy = Master Spy = Spymaster.
Following up on this, Stjuard (Steward) really makes no sense, and it would be best if it was replaced with "Blagajnik" (translation: someone who keeps track of a storage of money).

Just in response to the new mod "Master Builder" - does the team plan to integrate the regional goods system (wheat, grapes, mines, lumber, etc) in both Master Builder and Magnate Lords eventually?

The main issue with the Nok is that we know little about them and what influence they had on later West African cultures and civilizations.

On the other hand, that's a good thing, because it means you can get away with pretty much anything.

Speaking of West Africans, I know you folks have or have considered adding in the Finnish Pagan stuff from VIET into LI, are you planning that with the West African stuff from VIET?

I already put in the events and griot stuff, as well as the East African things as well :p But it does need to be updated to fit these new changes.

I ended up reducing the base MTTH to 400.... it was set to a whooping 2400 days... whereas the vanilla assassinate plot is base 500. I'm going to assume this was an oversight by the Additional Objectives mod maker, because there's no way killing someone is faster to plan than kidnap someone. Also for some reason, the event couldn't be triggered against children... while the plot can. So now children are considered by the event as well.

The indoctrinate and force marriage decisions had no desc in friends and foes either (they comes from there), so I'll make one up (a short and unimaginative one :p).

@Riknap/Futuregary:
Have we modified the Duel Engine in some way? We could do nicely with jordarkelf's MKII duel engine, so I'm planning on updating to it. I would like to know what changes we did to replicate the same changes there.

I'm updating ours with the one from FnF, but I don't know if it works yet.

Could you please change the Serbian (Srbin) cultural name for the Spymaster - Majstor Špijun, with Vrhovni Špijun?

Noted and changed :) I've been meaning to update these for a very long time now; I got the Armenians and Bulgarians done, but haven't done much more than that.

Please don't keep this tentative change. We had a fairly substancial discussion at that time and we agreed that only some cultures should be affected. Having all army leaders engage in these duels in totally counter-immersive for a universe rooted in late antiquity. How many Sassanid, Byzantine and late Roman (any Roman for that matter) generals engage in duels? It is just not a practice applicable to LI's universe except for those culture still living in the age of heroes. You may want to read Julius Caesar's own accounts of his generaliship during his battles with the Gauls (he sometimes came close to the line of contact to give micro management direct orders / encourage his troops, but did not come to the contact); or look at Belisarius and his Persian enemies. If you want duelling at each and every battle, go play AGOT where it makes perfect sense. But let's not apply any innovative mechanic blindly just for the sake of adding more features to LI. I had made that point at the time and I am ready to do it again.

Although I would prefer not to have to. I know that richvh is not "canon" as Shaytana but he was the official and recognized caretaker of the mod. I think any current caretaker of the mod should respect informed décisions that predecessors did on the mod. Like if we make a decision now on the reform structure, I would not like to have it questioned again by the next generation of LI care-taker... let's apply a bit of continuity / consitsency / respect for precedessors, please.

Playing as a Rhomaion Luwian character ang getting duels in battles would render the mod unplayble to me due to lack of plausability and un-immersive nature of such events. While I fully support it for "Pagan" civilizations as we defined them earlier, or for the set of cultures defined by richvh.

I agree with Numahr here. Although I like the idea of the entire world being more duel-friendly (and frankly, any time the general is on the battlefield, he should be ready to get dirty himself, be they Nahua, Komi, Badawi, or whatever), duels themselves being accessible to everyone is a little generic and... well, unthoughtful. That being said, I think anyone with a bloodline should be able to duel as well, regardless of culture. If we're attempting to recreate the legends of old through their descendants, then what kind of little bitch Justinian wouldn't fight himself?

PS: But it is still wrong that Saxony (which is a tribe) loses its name if they create a new title.

They're a tribe... they shouldn't be able to create any other titles.

Hey. The costs for buildings are way lower. WAD. For example minimal control now costs 10 gold.

Some would argue paying 30 gold for what should be there to begin with is a little much.

I always wondered why we don't have a bloodline of Kanishka trait, we have 2 or so of leaders potentially descending form him. And of course he's mentioned more than once in the timeline.
I need to re-read the timeline and seek for plausible bloodlines. Though, Shaytana himself mentioned characters like Hanno the navigator (Hanno II of Carthage) getting a bloodline in the future, but he isn't mentioned in the timeline, so if anything, he advocated adding new bloodline even if their founders didn't appear in the timeline.

About Iberian blood lines.... a cool one that is mentioned in Shaytana's timeline is the Cantabri leader Corocotta, who unified the Cantabrian clans and put up a nice fight against the Romans. So much that they ended putting a rather high reward on his head. I don't know where can we fit him, since the region where a hypothetical descendant of him should be leading is occupied by Euskalia in-game. Viriathus should also get a bloodline, who was never betrayed by the Romans in this timeline and whose descendants still rule in Lustiania in game, in fact, these people are the original Lusitanii Celtiberians rather than Portuguese, so we should tweak their name list to reflect that. Since Lusitania remained as a client kingdom rather than a Roman territory, so let's assume they weren't was romanized as OTL Celtiberians.

I'm sure there's a couple more (specially some Visigoth kings who should get one), but I'd need to check the books I've around here.

Solid yes on Kanishka, as well as the Iberians.

Following up on this, Stjuard (Steward) really makes no sense, and it would be best if it was replaced with "Blagajnik" (translation: someone who keeps track of a storage of money).

Delayed reply, but not forgotten...

Good point... what about Euskalist? Simple, people can get the idea from the name, and it has a tinge of culture to it in an otherwise universally-understandable format.

OK with this + your suggestion a bit later for Marian for the reformed one.
So to sum up:
mari_christ -> Euskalist
mari_christ_reformed -> Marian

... But does it have to be a demiurge? That'd be like a Christian sect worshipping Azazel. Then again, I forgot that Mandaeism tends to take the side of the Judeo-Christian antagonists, whereas the protagonists (Ruha d-Qudsha, for example) are the evil ones. In that light, it makes more sense, but... Isn't Yushamin still their demiurge, not the Jews'? I like the concept, I really do; I just don't like the venerated subject ;)

EDIT: I found a much more suitable alternative: Rišamman, from the Mandaic word rišamma meaning "leader of the people". Same exact concept, only it doesn't bring evil beings into the picture

OK, I still like my concept, but yours is convincing I have to say, without being controversial. So:
mandaean_reformed -> Rišammai

... and I think that concludes the debate on localizations of reformed religions, except if someone has still a point to raise?....

If no, please, DarkReborn and aethel27, take these into account in your files ;)

Hi guys. I have problem launching Lux Invicta in my ck2. I'm getting "ERROR: Process closed with error code 134. Please check configuration." while launching game. I'm using ubu 13.04, vanilla version runs well. No other mods installed, tried starting with and without DLCs, checking files integrity, cleaning ck2 documents folder. First I was getting error -6, now this 134. Anybody knows solution?

I'm not sure and a bit busy to search the dozens of pages but I believe either one should work (first one is my best guess but.. We'll see :x)

Remove

user_dir = "Lux Invicta"

In the Lux Invicta.mod file

If that one doesn't work remove
path = "mod/Lux Invicta"

Edit oh, that's the Mac fix, well give it a go anyway.

Thanks! Removing user_dir = ... helped. :)
However removing path = ... made game unable to see mod, so I wouldn't recommend this solution. ;)

Edit. Well... it worked, in some way. I forgot I first tried other solution with overwriting some files in gfx/. First I thought it was different issue solved that way, but when restored default mod files, game crashes a moment after showing first screen with -6 error. However when I overwrote those files again, game launches and I can start campaign. I don't have time to test it more now, I just hope I'm not losing anything changing those files.

i only read the timeline once, so i don't really know if all of them are valid, but at least the dynasty names suggest so. i really like the flavour of the british isles, where almost every playable character has a bloodline, so i really hope this will be the case for most parts of the map

Some information about culture conversion in the mod. The primary stat for culture conversion is no longer stewardship. It's a high diplomacy and learning score that brings the mean time to convert down. The mean time to convert has itself has been increased tenfold.

So if you want a pretty culture map keep this in mind when playing Lux Invicta. All the information you could ever need is in the events/culture_conversion_events file. I hope this is at least helpful to some.

Here's my shot at the bio of Arminus.

In 17 B.C. Arminus was born to the Cheruscan chief Segimerus. Captured by the Romans during his youth he spent the time training his mind and body with a military education, later receiving Roman citizenship along with the title of "Equestrian". Upon reaching adulthood he returned to his homeland of Germania and instigated a war to drive out the occupying Romans. In the Fall of 14 C.E. he ambushed the army of Alexandros Julius Caesar near Kalkriese and wiped out Alexander's entire army which totalled over 20,000. The Battle of Teutoburg Forest, as it came to be known, was one of the most devastating losses in Roman history. Now his heirs, goaded on by the blood lust of their forefather, seek to purge every last vestige of Rome from Germania, cutting a bloody swathe across the land.

[portal page for submods and misc documentations]

Lux Invicta - Better Looking Characters
[portal for integrated LI-BLC redevelopment]
vgqq.jpg

Better Looking Characters was made by Shaytana and previously integrated by default in Lux Invicta.
It is now reintegrated by default in Lux Invicta, with DLC-requiring files made a separate optional download (this file). You'll need all the DLC's to run this optional file.
Primary maintenance work is currently handled by DarkReborn and futuregary, so contact them for information and suggestions regarding this sub-mod.
If you're getting Runtime Errors, either disable this DLC-requisite LI-BLC submod OR follow the instructions in the first post of main Lux Invicta thread.

DOWNLOAD: v8d12+05 [optional DLC-requisite files]
CHANGELOGS:
v8d12+05
- integrated the base non-DLC-requiring files in the main LI installation. This file is now an optional file that enables DLC-requiring assets
- New headgear for Roman/Rhomaion/Hellen rulers; laurel wreaths!! Solar group emperor tier wear the Corona Radiata (Radiant Crown) as seen in depictions of Sol Invictus and some emperors in roman coins. Non solar emperor tier wear a golden laurel wreath instead. King tier wear normal wreaths. Dukes don't get any headgear (romans weren't actually that big on headgear).
- Made the "medieval galeas" darker.
- New martial headgear and clothes for latingfx. The clothes are from a late Roman general reenactor uniform replica and same for the helmet. The helmet had a very ornate mask but I removed it, might re-add it for the imperial helmet though.
- New martial headgear for latingfx... it looks kinda strange I know (the base was a costume-quality helmet image...), but I tried to make it look like a blend between late roman-ish and medieval helmet styles. If people think it looks goofy I might remove it.
- tweaked the Persian beard (the one the Sassanid emperor has)

Older Logs:
v8d12+04
- New graphical culture for the Afro-phoenicians
- New headgear for the Indohellen portraits (Alan nomad style crowns)
- "BLC-fied" Northman gfx culture from the AGOT mod (used with permission and given credit properly) for the Visigoths (they should look slightly less barbaric)
- Updated to lastest SCARRED version
- New headgear for the ancient Levantine cultures; Jewish, Nabateans and Syro-Arameans (Extracted/adapted from some Phoenician/Hebrew history illustration book sources I found)

v8d12+03
- DLC portrait cultures (Byzantine, Celtic, Norse and Russian) have their clothes and headgear updated to BLC standards.
- Most Altaic cultures (except Huns, Uyghurs and Mongols) use Crackdthoothgrin's Steppe Faces' hair, beards and headgear. Turks have a separate gfx culture.
- A lot of new gfx cultures made from combined DLC and BLC cultures material, such as the celtic-mediterranean galloromangfx or the norse-german teutonicgfx.
- Brand new Persiangfx graphic culture, with beards and headgear put together by me with whatever skills I could muster.
- Latingfx (Romans & company) and Byzantinegfx (Hellens & company, except Indohellens) use Velorian's Modified Mediterranean faces. Other cultures (where appropiate) use Shaytana's original BLC mediterranean faces
- Most Semitic cultures except Berber, Andalusian, Jewish/Levantine and Saqaliba use Velorian's Modified Arab faces. The later 4 use the faces Shaytana made for them originally.

v8d12+02
Integrated the Modified Mediterranean GFX for LI Greek-sphere cultures and the Modified Arab GFX for certain arab cultures.

v8d12+01
- Integrated cybrxkhan's Saxongfx for Central Germanic (germangfx) culture
- Integrated SCARRED by siroland portrait graphics for some of the health/physical/illnesses traits)
- Integrated clothes from Crackthoothgrin's Steppe Faces
- New religious clothings (made from combined material from vanilla, BLC and Steppe Faces). There's plenty to use now but I plan to expand on this.
- Fixed some minor alignment issues here and there.
- No more rulers here and there wearing bishop cloth. I'm done with that stupid fashion trend.
--DarkReborn
CREDITS:
- Shaytana for the original BLC
- Crackdthoothgrin for his Steppe Faces Pack
- Knuckey and the AGOT team for giving me permission to use parts of their work
- Cybrxkhan for letting me use part of his Cultures and Portraits Revamp
- Velorian for is Arab and Mediterranean improved GFX
- euroland for the Scarred micromod
REQUIREMENT NOTES: YOU NEED ALL THE PORTRAIT DLCs (UPDATED TO THEIR LATEST VERSIONS) FOR THIS DLC-REQUISITE ADD-ON, ELSE THE GAME WILL CRASH OR YOU EXPERIENCE PORTRAIT MISPLACEMENT ERRORS (IF NOT BLACK BOXES ).
ADDENDUM NOTES: IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING RUNTIME ERRORS OR CRASHES WITH LI-BLC ENABLED, EITHER a) DISABLE LI-BLC OR b) DISABLE NON-ESSENTIAL DLC'S OR c) REFER TOT HE FIRST POST OF THE FAQS [CLAIRVOYANCE CORNER]. THIS IS CAUSED BY A MEMORY ISSUE DUE TO THE SCALE OF LI-BLC.

Lux Invicta Documentations:

Lux Invicta Historical Timeline, created by Shaytana, the author and mastermind of this mod.
Lux Invicta SELIN Religion Guide, information about Numahr's SELIN religions researched and compiled by futuregary.
Spirituality Enhanced for Lux Invicta by Numahr, a comprehensive post of information on the SELIN-module integrated in Lux Invicta.

Recommended Lux Invicta Submods:

Mongol Invasion module, by futuregary. It currently ports vanilla mongols to the mod with date and religious conversion modifications.
[currently unsupported]

LIBERT3 Borders DLC v1
Adds optional internal-realm borders for choice.
Installed by manually copying the relevant border files to the map/terrain folder.

LIBERT3 Mercenary DLC
Adds all previously experimented generic retinues. Made optional due to balance reasons, as the AI tends to only hire skirmish retinues.
Install by simply copy-pasting the files.
Further details:
The following are the added retinues:
  • Veteran Infantry Company
  • Veteran Skirmisher Company
  • Hedge Knight Cohort
  • Arrant Knight Cohort
  • Veteran Horseman Company
  • Steppe Mercenary Band
  • Veteran Mercenary Regiment
  • Rhodoki Crossbowmen Contingent
  • Elite Spearwall Company
Like the other Lux Invicta retinues added via libert3, they have bonuses to make them stronger versus other units. But they are cheaper than cultural units (hard-coded) and are also slightly weaker in terms of combat strength bonuses in comparison to them.
Outdated, and will need to updated to accomodate v6I rebalance.
Kyrie Eleison
In a nutshell, Kyrie Eleison basically attempts to simulate the inherently unstable realms characteristic of both Shaytana's timeline and medieval history by making realms stable only up to a certain size, beyond which instability and desire for independence becomes paramount.
[ Currently under (re)development after v6H (will probably be reintegrated as well) ]

Recommended External Submods:

Dorimi's Alternative Music Experience (relevant "thread") - highly recommended BGM overhaul (though licensing rights are questionable, but the quality and immersion is not)
Decorus Visum, a mod by ancestral that enhances atmosphere (a font was eventaully integrated somehow, but there are a few more choices here).
Vyllis Sound Module, by Vyllis (his own standalone mod). It has a suppressed old-school feel to it that blends well with Lux Invicta's atmosphere. This has been directly integrated, because I can.

Lux Invicta - Clairvoyance Corner

Lux Invicta Clairvoyance Corner
[frequently asked questions]

I'm getting Runtime Errors!!!
If you have a 32-bit OS and/or have only 4GB RAM, then you could speed your system by allocating more RAM space into your Virtual Memory. Do this by:
a) Run CMD (Command Prompt) as an Administrator, then
b) type bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072
The most you should set it to is 3072 (without maiming your system), though if you're experiencing desktop environment instability, set it anywhere between 2048~3072.

Can I access your Secret Version Nouveau (SVN) build?
... uh, sure. Our resident backdoor-entrance guide Benblu will show you how.
Of course, it goes without saying any that your are morally obligated to report whatever bugs you notice in our internal build, for the benefit of all of course.

What are the changes in the new versions since Shaytana left?
To be honest, a whole lot. Well, more correctly, the base principles and lore of the mod has been kept intact, but a whole lot of mechanics have evolved in synchronity with the new main DLC's of Crusader Kings.
You can get an overview of the most significant changes by reading the LIBERT3 portal and checking the writeup there and the changelogs linked, as well as checking out both the Calibration Coordinates post for a comprehensive specifics guide as well as the [Contemporary Chronology] for the list of changelogs of the current version.

What is SELIN? LIBERT3? CHRONOS?
Spirituality Enhanced for Lux Invicta by Numahr (SELIN), is the religion overhaul module by Numahr, and is automatically integrated into the mod even before Shaytana left.
Lux Invicta Buildings & Events, Retinues & Tactics, Traits & Technology (LIBERT3), is the general balance module by riknap, and as of v6h is automatically integrated into the mod.
Project CHRONOS: The Time-Traveller's Overhaul for Lux Invicta (CHRONOS), is a rework of the existing landed titles by futuregary. It currently is for the directly-integrated in the mod for the purpose of fixing the setup of landed titles within a tolerable limit and within range of canon.

Is there a list of information regarding Authority requirements, CB requirements, and the like?
Yes, the Calibration Coordinates post, found in the same page (701) as this one.

Why are faces using vanilla portraits?
The Better Looking Characters module for Lux Invicta has been removed from the base mod, and is now available as an optional sub-mod to remove the requirement of needing all face DLC's to avoid black boxes.
You can find the BLC sub-mod in the [Anciliary Aperture] post in this same page as well.

How do I get rid of the cloud and calligraphy effects?
Those are the integrated Clouds of War and Decorus Visum mods.
You can revert the fog of war to vanilla by deleting the map/terrain/Fogowar.dds file, and revert the map font to vanilla by deleting the gfx/font folder entirely.

How do I use hotkeys in this mod?
The mod uses Arumba's Keyboard Shortcuts + Interface Adjust mod and keeps it updated regularly, so the shortcuts in that page are exactly the shortcuts in-game (except the ` key, which we transferred to the \ key as it was a hassle in using console for debugging).
In any case, there's a decision that allows you to review the hotkeys in-game.

I noticed some rulers have a "Blood of X" trait. Is that WAD?
Sort of. Those are bloodline traits that designate special historical dynasties who have a prestigious primogenitor who has helped shaped the LI universe to what it is now. Note however that the list of special dynasties is not fully covered yet. You can find a full list of the canon-special dynasties in the Calibration Coordinates post.

So, about Mongols and Aztecs...
Aztecs arrive around 150 years later than usual and with slightly smaller numbers than vanilla, to accomodate the fact that general troop sizes are smaller in vanilla.
As for "Mongols", they're Sino-Hellenic in this mod as per the timeline canon. How they'll be implemented however... is a qustion for another time.

I have questions and concerns regarding matters of game balance.
By all means, post them on this thread, and we'd be more than willing to hear them out. We always take the feedback of the players into consideration, and regularly make use of it to further improve this mod.

Can we export our saved-games to EU4?
You theoretically can, but the exported game will be pretty much bonked. We're planning on working on a project for either a standalone mod for EU4 or a modified converter script for CK2 instead, but that's a far-off project.

Any future plans for the mod?
Aside from continuously looking for awesome mods to integrate into LI as well as further tweaking, improving, and updating LI and adopting new content Paradox releases to the benefit of LI's setting? We're also planning a map-expansion to India using Umbra Spherae as well as potentially something that will tie-up with EU4, but that's for the far future really.
