@pastpatrick,
random minor stuff, but I just noticed now that the localisation for creating ducal titles is not only green (despite being a negative number - yeah I know it's a color code :p ), but it saying "give us" instead of "cost us". I do recall requesting that to be changed some time ago, so it's possible that post-TOG changed some localisation strings? still, minor stuff :p

Fixed it.

If a large part of the team doesn't like the steppe faces, or feel they're out of place, I can remove them easily. Sincerely, I don't know if that is how the (western) peoples of the Steppe really looked like... and apparently no one else knows, since they aren't really around anymore, they assimilated into the other Tartar peoples. Some people say they do but from what I can read/hear they're either biased or wrong. So I leave it up to the Senate and People of Lux Invicta:
- Shaytana's BLC interpretation (last 2 on the image)
uBvtH.png
- Crackdtoothgrin Steppe faces' interpretation
Uzlko.jpg
- Cyberxkhan cultures and portraits revamp
Mdy9v.jpg

I like the three of them for different things, and I'm known for being very indecisive, so I leave it up to you all!

Crackedtoothgrin's looks the best, but... those mustaches are so 19th century, it's painful. As far as Shaytana's, I really found a lot of difficulty distinguishing between graphical cultures, and I didn't like that. The alangfx are nice, and cumangfx kind of work well, but CTG's looks almost like a decent-looking portrait DLC.

I suppose my vote goes for CTG's.

This is what it says for Carthage

e_carthage = {
color = { 181 181 181 }
capital = 817 # Tunis

short_name = yes

allow = {
culture = vandal
has_landed_title = k_carthage
has_landed_title = k_siracusa
has_landed_title = d_sardinia
has_landed_title = d_granada
has_landed_title = c_tunis
has_landed_title = c_murcia
}
}
So double check those titles and your culture.

Also, it might be a decision rather than a standard 'Create this Title'

Yeah I followed those guidelines, I still can't figure out how to actually create the title of empire. I own all of that and personally control the dutchy of Carthago Nova, Carthage itself, and most of sicily. The rest are all vassals. I can't find any titles in the "title search" that would allow me to click the "create title" button...or really any empire titles at all, yet there are empires popping up in the Slav and Muslim territories so I know theres no bug....I just can't figure out how to actually create the title. Thanks for all the feedback guys

Fine then, I'll revert the faces... but I'll leave the clothes. IMHO, they're gorgeously done and It would be sad to remove them, so I guess that's a nice compromise.

About the Huns and the Russians floating clothes... I really have no friggin clue. When I get the time, I'll remake their gfx by hand. but sincerely... I've looked throught the files they use for their portraits and I have no clue.

The title search function goes by the localized name, not the code name. So you would probably search for "The Carthaginian Empire" and it should pop up.

I can surgically remove the handlebar moustaches and other 19th century facial hair, should be a line or two in portrait_properties.txt

Also... I may have found the culprit. Maybe the skin_tone = x line in graphical_cultures really defines the tone of the skin in game.... maybe that's the cause of weird skin tones; because the portraits are designed to be of that determinate tone , and I was using BLCs values for tones instead of Steppe Faces' ones.

I believe you can just click the "create title" button/shield above, and it should show up if it's valid for you to create the title

this.
the clothes are very well done, and should definitely stay.

to be honest, I quite like CTG's, but I think they should be edited a bit so that they don't look to out of place. more specifically, they're too shiny in-game and stick out like a sore thumb.

edit: ninja

while I did say I'm personally for keeping Shaytana's BLC as intact as possible (still, keep the clothes if you could :p), you could always make a small auxiliary "patch" containing an alternate file that uses ctg's steppe faces instead since I personally find them more aesthetically interesting as well as likely more realistic (especially since "pure-BLC" development halted 11 months ago ).
then again, once we could get darkgamma's and numahr's opinions on these, as well as probably enough community votes to "break the tie", then we could go with either keeping "old school" BLC designs or using CTG's design (unless cybr's wins more votes :p )

as for floating clothes and hats, the first thing that comes to mind is that the values for "No of Frames" is likely off. We had that issue before when the horizontal size of the relevant gfx folder files (the .dds stuff) wasn't correctly divided by the value set in the interface settings (the .gfx files).

oh? then I redact some of my comments :p
since it's easy to revert changes anyway, then keep them as they are now (CTG's) with modifications :p

Speaking of errors, Ranklamps, the Total War CB still has two on_add prestige strings.

yep.

I'll make a list of errors I could remember here (since I need to do an all-nighter for some acad reqn's ) and work on them later:

a) dat total war cb
b) using "if limit" scopes for the conversion war and glorious invasion cb and see if that'll solve the validity issue
c) correcting the spymaster/marshal job errors (apparently, the marshal's military development job is somehow merged with the spymaster's spy ring stuff)
d) edit a couple of localisations
e) actually editing the defines to edit de jure drift (50 for kingdoms to empires, 250 for duchies to kingdoms) and battle warscore (reduce max battle warscore a bit [experiment with 120])

on a side note, there was a post detailing an error with landed_titles a while ago. I'm guessing that was/is fixed by your magic machine right? xD

As it turns out, "skin tones = x" doesn't do shit. So we stand as before, either leaving CTG's undivided, using BLC faces and CTG's clothes or in case Cybr's ones win, use his.

BTW, using a 2GB dual core laptop to start up CK2. Time slows around me.

Anyway, I'll solve everything tomorrow afternoon (UTC +08:00) when I arrive to my next hotel, since it's very late here and I have to wake up very soon to catch the train. From PEKING (yes! you heard me!) to Shangai.

Time and time again I will say this: 250 years is way too long :laugh: You might as well set 999, because there will be virtually no drift. The AI cannot hold any title that long; the only thing that would affect is the player, and even that's hella hard.

Yes, I did fix the issue in landed_titles. I think I did that just after you released the patch, though :closedeyes:

Any time :) I think what I'm going to do is use the prefix "the" in front of legendary and important titles. To kind of signify their significance as the most important. THE Papacy, THE Carthaginian Empire, THE Rashidun Caliphate, etc. Not all, though; for example, Austrgothia doesn't need one since it is a name in itself, not an adjective modifying an empire.

but that's the point. :rofl:
duchies are not supposed to drift at all, since each duchy/province is pretty much culturally entrenched in their own "de jure kingdom" that drifting them to another kingdom should take a very long amount of time, as it involves erasing centuries worth of memory and traditions. a dedicated kingdom-tier player who roleplays could eventually reach that threshold, but for the most part it's essentially a soft cap xD
the very short kingdom drift to empires though represent kingdoms being lawful "client kings" of the empires that have full hegemony over them.

and because I feel classy as faque right now, here's Machiavelli backing me up:
But it is impossible to hold with such tranquillity states constituted like that of
France. Hence arose those frequent rebellions against the Romans in Spain, France,
and Greece, owing to the many principalities there were in these states, of which, as
long as the memory of them endured, the Romans always held an insecure possession;
but with the power and long continuance of the empire the memory of them passed
away, and the Romans then became secure possessors. And when fighting afterwards
amongst themselves, each one was able to attach to himself his own parts of the country,
according to the authority he had assumed there; and the family of the former lord
being exterminated, none other than the Romans were acknowledged.
-Ch IV, The Prince

:rofl:
yeah, sorry for that. was reading it a while ago xD

essentially, because the whole kingdom is assimilated, it's a lot faster for it to drift de jure into an empire. but if only the duchy is assimilated, then the memory of their "lawful" kingdom will always make them resist assimilation :p

Yes, I did fix the issue in landed_titles. I think I did that just after you released the patch, though :closedeyes:
well, I did tell you to fix all issues before I release the alpha last saturday. and since you pretty much went to sleep, I assumed that it was you essentially putting your seal on it xD

Aaaah... so we half of the councillors are exploring the world right now... with you know, Numahr is Ahriman knows where (somewhere near Azerbaiyan I guess), you in the Ancient Hellen fatherland (that is LI holy land no doubt, keep your eyes open for Shaytana!) and me here on the Far East (again).

Indeed, the LI team is one of both explorers and scholars!

Aaaah... so we half of the councillors are exploring the world right now... with you know, Numahr is Ahriman knows where (somewhere near Azerbaiyan I guess), you in the Ancient Hellen fatherland (that is LI holy land no doubt, keep your eyes open for Shaytana!) and me here on the Far East (again).

Indeed, the LI team is one of both explorers and scholars!
do I count, since I'm in from the Far East? :p Well, far south east anyway :laugh:
(oi, unless you plan to stay all night, you'd miss your train xD [unless you are posting from within your sleep :eek: ] )

but that's the point. :rofl:
duchies are not supposed to drift at all, since each duchy/province is pretty much culturally entrenched in their own "de jure kingdom" that drifting them to another kingdom should take a very long amount of time, as it involves erasing centuries worth of memory and traditions. a dedicated kingdom-tier player who roleplays could eventually reach that threshold, but for the most part it's essentially a soft cap xD
the very short kingdom drift to empires though represent kingdoms being lawful "client kings" of the empires that have full hegemony over them.

and because I feel classy as faque right now, here's Machiavelli backing me up:

:rofl:
yeah, sorry for that. was reading it a while ago xD

essentially, because the whole kingdom is assimilated, it's a lot faster for it to drift de jure into an empire. but if only the duchy is assimilated, then the memory of their "lawful" kingdom will always make them resist assimilation :p

well, I did tell you to fix all issues before I release the alpha last saturday. and since you pretty much went to sleep, I assumed that it was you essentially putting your seal on it xD

That would make sense... if the de jure map wasn't so ugly :laugh: Lombardia cuts Italy in some weird proportion in which Piemonte is separated from the rest of Italia (for no justifiable reason, since Tuscany is Italian, not Lombard). Makedonia cuts Rhomania in portions, somehow leaving Athens with never-to-be-fulfilled ambitions of imperial greatness and causing the Imperium Romanum to keep establishing their capital in Naxos (the most central of the de jure spread of Rhomania, skewed by the inclusion of distant Krete and formerly Kypros before I put my grubs on that :p). Mesopotamia used to cut Arabia in half as well. Not to mention the fact that Cornovia will really only exist in the mind of the Mithraic-Christian Romano-Brython king at Land's End.

One of two things needs to happen: 1) duchies need to be able to drift (even if difficult, it should still be doable and should actually happen), or 2) we need to adjust starting layout. This concept works great in theory, but in gameplay it's maddeningly annoying, as it essentially condemns titular rulers to death. If by some stroke of greatness they manage to expand, they just end up creating de jure titles and destroying the old ones; if this were intended, I doubt Shay would have made so many complex and detailed titular titles with aspirations of grandeur.

Also, it's the land of the title that needs to belong to the empire, not the title itself. So only de jure kingdoms will be drifting. In which case I ask again, what is the point of so many titular titles if they're just going to fizzle in less than 100 years anyway?

I toss my hat in with cracktooths facepacks.

Puh-lease, as a the post-high school (that means, Tech College or whatever you want to call it in each ones country, University et all) student that I have been for the past 6 years, I've acquired the magnificent ability to sleep only 4 hours a day! This ability requires of coffee to power it, though.
(FYI, I'm on the train right now, connected through my phone and that's surely costing me millions in my bill, but hey...)

It's not that costly if you share the costs between 4 people. Due to...rounding off of the costs... which I might have done or not, I paid less than the others.:ninja:

We're planning a travel through the US "big cities" (you know... NY, LA... that sort of thing) for the next summer, so I might pass by to wherever you live (West Coast I assume? Or I randomly guess) and pick you up! Beware, the Conquistadores may come for you! :rofl:

As soon as I get to the hotel (Which should be very late! We're going to do a whole tour of the city! And can I tell you it's frigging big!) and have a permanent connection, I'll take a look at... whatever I've to do with the portraits (reverting the cumans to BLCs but keeping the clothes from CTGs as far as I can read).

You might think I'm weird for doing modding during my vacations... well, but I am an IT engineer, we're all weird no matter what else people tell you!! :rofl:

That's quite a skill you have there, I probably will have to acquire it at some point. Hopefully without the coffee part. :rofl:

It probably will... Especially since you are outside of your country. That's gonna sting...

"DarkReborn's Chinese adventures episode 2: Lost in the big city!" Have fun. ;D

You silly person you! Doing things while on vacation... All you do is lay on the beach and become a crab right?
Well if you like doing the modding, I won't blame you for doing it on your vacation. I probably would...
