to be honest, I'm not sure. if the performance hit is excessive enough as you claim, I don't think it's worth it.
An alternative solution would be to add more buildings that require a certain tradition trait to unlock to achieve the intended province-modifier effect, but that's also... a bit convoluted.
Since you were the one who did a lot of work on the events, I'll leave the decision to you for now.

as for the three events popping up, it does seem to be something in the file I made...
this is the file btw, in case someone could notice the problem before I do. I still can't get validator to work (or I'm doing it incorrectly...)
edit: I think I got the problem. adding modifier scopes to the ##event-type(AI) events seems to be the culprit. the problem is i can't place the modifiers at the ##event-type(Player) event because that's triggered only - ie. triggered by the (AI)-version of the event.
how would I edit them to make weight matter for these events?
specifically: the Thieving Captain, Ship Lost in Storm, Noble Books Passage, and Mutiny events (the thieving captain in the uploaded version doesn't have the weight-modifiers yet).

Since balancing results seem to be doing relatively well, I thought I'd post some of the tentative balancing modifications I've been working on to tackle snow-balling. That way, I could take any comments and violent reactions into consideration :laugh:

V Rebalanced CB's:
> modified base war-declaration costs to 25/25/50 gold/piety/prestige (vanilla-Lux was 20/30/40)
> the conquest CB (Conquest War) requires 50% of your annual income to stockpiled (aside from the basic 100/100 prestige piety - the gold requirement was made scaling) be available and cost 25% of your annual income and 200 prestige upon usage.
> the conquest CB of militant religions like mithraic,zalmoxis, etc (Expansion War) require and costs 30% of your annual income with no prestige cost.
> the total war CB of a few other even more militant religions (Total War) requires 150% of annual income stockpiled and costs 50% but adds 100 prestige instead of costing prestige.
> the religious CB (Holy War) requires 500 piety and 200 prestige and costs 250 piety (previously 200), 100 prestige, and 10% of annual income
#note the actual cost seems to be influenced partially by other modifiers like SELIN.
VI Rebalanced warfare-diplomacy in general
> increased truce-breaking prestige cost to 500 and declining defensive wars to 250 (vanilla 350 and 150)
> Reduced raised vassal opinion interval to 85 (midway between vanilla 73 and previous 100).
> Increased minimum threshold for troops to 25 from -25 (below that opinion you only get the bare minimum.
> Returned defender war-score for battles to vanilla (1.5x).
> Lowered warscore from contested settlements
> Lowered warscore from occupation by making 100% warscore require 100% occupation.
> Returned battle warscore multiplier to 150
> Lowered prestige from battles further (now 1/5 of vanilla)
#>Added a +25% morale for both unit types of cultural retinues since they have a hardcoded cost markup.
> Increased effect of attrition
> Lowered supply in enemy provinces
> Increased supply in own and neutral realms and also for occupied counties.
> Made agriculture and martial code also increase supply limit (to a lesser extent). Rebalanced them to compensate (reduced castle tax for agriculture and removed levy size for martial code).
> Modified unit maintenance to be slightly less than current settings. Galleys had maintenance reduced from 50 to 40.

personally, I would have preferred a prestige malus scaled with realm-size instead of scaled income only, since a small realm could have good tax laws because of its SELIN modifier while large realms could potentially be piss-poor because they can't tax vassals (assuming no modifications of tax laws which the AI doesn't do - though Novacat's ck2+ integration might change that). But since we can't use realm holdings as a modifier/trigger yet (Wiz did make it available in the base code, but it'll happen by the next patch or after), this should be work as a makeshift hurdle for large realms, especially since the required gold stockpile would be considerable once they're large enough to snowball that they'll either invest that money in buildings... (or hoard it - I haven't gotten a test game with the recent settings beyond a century yet).

Not sure if you guys touch SELIN stuff but I noticed Wulfist(Bavaria) and Platonic Islamic give .5 to stats that don't actually do anything because nothing else in the mod adds another .5(That I have seen anyway).

incidentally, if some of you aren't exactly that busy and just hanging around in the forums, I would appreciate some help/comments/criticism regarding my side project for a tactics overhaul. It's linked in my sig - any comments (beyond a single character) would be helpful (especially since one of the goals is to eventually possibly integrate it in LIBERT3 once it's refined enough).
There are currently 148 tactics or so as of typing, but I'm kind of stuck and unable to think of more for the other categories especially since I'm focusing on achieving the balancing LIBERT3 holistically.

Nevertheless nice work. It realy changes the way the mod plays.

I'll probably upload an interim update that corrects some of the few mistakes noticed post v10n without adding in any significant balancing (I'll probably just add the uyghur correction, that static modifier correction (that accordingly doesn't work as it is now anyway since Novaneko says that Clausewitz only recoginizes three decimal points except for a few Fixed Point instances in the defines.lua) and maybe the scaled/factored republic trade events).

Status report: After looking at the Tradition traits, I decided to just flat-out remove the Garrison/Levy_size affects, as they were unfixable. I also decided to overhaul the Mercentile traits, but I ran into a very significant, CK2 specific problem. Status report: After looking at the Tradition traits, I decided to just flat-out remove the Garrison/Levy_size affects, as they were unfixable. I also decided to overhaul the Mercentile traits, but I ran into a very significant, CK2 specific problem. Yeah, I'll just re-write the localisation for the martial tradition traits and slightly edit their effects to compensate. It's better than making the system lag for something minor (though it is indeed a shame, but we can't have everything :) )

As for mercantile traits, I'm curious on what exactly you've changed. I guess I'll look forward to your list then? :laugh:
as for the missionary traits though - they're basically pointless right now unless someone makes county-tier bishoprics, right? or rather... you only disabled all tradition traits for barony-tier vassals (excluding patricians) right?


Incidentally and I said before, I hope you also send me a copy of the files you're going to send rich for integration so that I could adjust my tweaks based on the way you've integrated CK2+'s mechanics

Fixed the vassal-kills-servant event in the following ways:
- Imprisoning the vassal now gives you the Just trait instead of the Cruel trait, and the Tyrant opinion modifier is now only given to vassals with the Cruel, Wroth, or Impaler traits. (I think, I may have flubbed up in the code, could someone please double-check that for me? I doubt it, though.)
- Giving the other servants gold now no longer gives you the Just trait. Basically, it's only purpose is to avoid the Just/Arbitrary traits and the negative modifiers by spending a few coins.
