I'm glad you are now feeling the same thing I felt when I played Jórvik some time ago... :p

Yah, but I ENJOY IT! :D I do understand why some would get frustrated though hehehehe... so I put in a variety of changes to make it more gentle on the player. ;)

Oh, and from your AAR... is it possible to tie blood traits to a dynasty instead of having it be a straight male line only inherited trait? That might also keep some silly things from happening with Matrilineal Marriage and having your dynasty getting some other Bloodline.

I wouldnt see that as silly, a King who carries the shield of his mothers house but is still judged by the blood of his father?
I'd say how it already is is the exact way to keep it.

On Blood Lines, ought there be a couple generic ones that be can added on decision to exceptional rulers and their kids/grandkids who dont have one?
So if you start as a character that doesnt have one, but then have a character who goes from count to emperor or something like that and has alot of prestige and piety in the bank, he can pitch in some prestige or gold to gain a blood trait signifying descent from him.
So you can get the legacy of greatness from something you do rather than something before the game started.
Not sure if itd workly smoothly though.

Maybe two or three of them, each with an accompanying unique nickname so you choose the decision, and get an event offering you the choice of which bloodline to found, and if you pick say, Blood of the Great Lion, then you get the trait and the Great Lion as a nickname so everyone'll know the trait means descended from you.
Probably the AI shouldnt be allowed it though as it couldnt use restraint and hold off until its appropriate story-wise to use it.

I was thinking at one point to code something similar! :)

My idea was to have an agnatic blood trait in called "Blood of Conquerors" and have an event pop where you get this trait if you got a loooooooooooad of prestige. I haven't implemented it yet because I wasn't 100% sure on the particulars of gaining it.

Your system has more complexity attached and sounds like something that should maybe be implemented in the future - I'll put it on my cool things to address eventually list. :)

ALSO WARNING FUTURE SPOILER:
I will also (because I'm a major Dune fan) one day implement the ultimate easter egg trait -> Kwisatz Haderach. I will be stealthy about it, I will never document it and the reqs might be brutal... but yes one day it will be in. ;)

In your test game, remember that Christo-Zalmaxian has its SELIN modifiers. In particular, being a martial religion reduces your income. Take the modifiers into account when considering balance, as relatively poor / good performances in some areas are an intended effect of those modifiers.

Aye, open agnatic succesion though that the Pendragons have makes them swim in money via inheritances of temples... Not to mention the initial health issues that made my counts die and I inherited their stuffs... <evil> But in any case so far so good. :)

Those steps should bring the mortality curve more back in line with historical norms.

Forget Earthly glory, come back to more holy matters: SELIN modifiers. I am striving to complete them for the middle-east, and I realized that many Islamic faiths are still missing them. So here is the complete list of Islamic faiths with their definitions, for public review before coding (half of them are already coded in, but can be change easily anyway).

* Tribal is the equivalent of "Barbarian." It is only used as an ascendant here anyway since all Islamic religions belong, by definition, to the Islamic civilization. The only doubt is for Maraboutism: it could be considered as more Tribal than Islamic, what do you think? (call to the masses... and their inspired leader, Shayatana)

A reminder for Shaytana: since the beginning of the world, global_tax_modifier is broken. I just checked and it is still the case. I saw that you used it a lot in your modifiers...

If you want to impact revenues in triggered modifiers, the only way I know is to give bonus (or malus) to the taxation level of city, castle and church vassals through [maximum/minimum]_city/castle/temple_vassal_tax_modifier.

Can someone give me some guidance on buildings? As it is I sink most of my money into levy specialization, then walls and administration. As I go I buy prerequisites in education. But.really I'm quite lost.

I spend on revenue enhancements before anything else. If you have the cash flow, you can afford the levy enhancements better.

I initially considered a model following reality - as in many children dying young or mothers dying in childbirth etc. BUT, the problem is database inflation - loads of children dying young = useless characters slowing the game down progresively and making the savegames dinosaurs. I prefer a model that simulates the children dying young by not having them altogether - less lag that way.

Yeah, maraboutism is a tough one you can go with tribal if you want.

I noticed global tax modifier is broken........................SIGH. I will look into replacing it.

Can someone give me some guidance on buildings? As it is I sink most of my money into levy specialization, then walls and administration. As I go I buy prerequisites in education. But.really I'm quite lost.

Depends on several things but you can't go wrong with just looking at what you can build and always building the stuff that gives the biggest bonus to income first. You can follow a model where you boost all the income giving stuff first, then the administrative stuff, with the stuff not giving boni to income last.
