Rex Arturus I of Brythonia died at age 70 of natural causes (while leading troops against the rebellious Artorius count of Dyfed (demoted from Duke when Arturus usurped his title before the conquest of Dyfed) and his allies, leaving the throne to Countess (now Queen) Aytena I. Her eldest daughter died young, leaving a single (non-dynasty) daughter; her second daughter is now betrothed matrilinearly to a scion of the Artorii of Deheubarth (though since they're 8 and 5 respectively, there's plenty of time for things to go wrong.) So far not a single male descendant of Arturus, though the Artorii of Deheubarth and Cornovia have several.

How many wives did you go through again? Only 2? ;)

All player characters start with 8!!! health which is huge. Traits add to that.

There must be something bugged then since that patch. The other brother and sister both died at 23 of a natural death, and the last one dies at 16-18 years old. We reloaded the save file about a dozen times and everytime she's died of a natural cause within a year or two of loading which is impossible to stop. It's pretty much ended that game. I'm not saying to increase health anymore or anything, it's just the 100% chance to die within 2 years seems a bit strange, especially when she's young and healthy.

I'm having trouble with my heirs too in my Aquitaine game. Atm I'm in a pretty bad shape, the dynasty having trouble getting off size-wise. Death of children or of adults before they can sire children is really problematic. Note though, that's a good thing! At worst, I'll just play someone else in the same game :)

Although still, we shouldn't have to "go through" many wives to keep a dynasty going...

Hmmmmmmmmm... what I find strange is I did test games for fertility and stress today and I think that on average I've had 6 children. (I stopped trying getting more - I could have by getting new wife)

I think that in Lux you need to get a 2nd wife if the first one isn't producing enough. Because of the initial lack of dynastic heirs I advise that your first couple of rulers (especially the first) should try and breed more than usual, maybe get rid of the first wife by some nefarious means if you can't otherwise.

--------------------------------------------------
USING CAPS SO PEOPLE SEE THIS:

PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU CAN HOW SOME DEATH AGES FOR YOUR RULERS IN YOUR GAMES AND NUMBER OF CHILDREN (IF POSSIBLE WIVES TOO) then I can figure out things better.

Just 1 (still living at 69), it was daughter #2 (the surviving, and reigning one) that has been married twice (and is only 39, so might still have a son.)

You don't need to, only if you're unlucky... Out of 5 kings of Cornovia only 1 of them had to get a second wife for me... as said though I like it more this way...

Let's look at the Capetians, arguably one of the most succesfull dynasties in not dying out and keeping it going, true brood masters as opposed to dynasties that actually died out - so the extreme of good breeding:

I believe that this is how it went: (a short example of kings)

Henry I - 1 wife - 4 kids one died in childhood
Philip I - 2 wives - 4 and 3 = 7 - 2 died as children
Louis VI - 2 wives - 8 kids
Louis VII - 3 wives 2 + 2 + 2 = 6
Philip II - 2 wives 3 + 2 = 5 2 died as children
Louis VIII - the Brood Lord - 13 kids - 8 of these died as children though...

So this is the master breeders, not the guys who die out (lots of dynasties do die out). I think you can replicate this in game - note that having several wives = good.

That's the problem then. I STRONGLY advise that for the first ruler at least make several wives a rule if the first doesn't produce males.

Man, if it's actually necessary to murder or execute your wives in order to do well, then I'm done. Not how I play, hoss.

That said, on stress: I've had several high stress rulers live a long time. My king of Dacia lived to be 89, or something, and he was stressed his whole dang life. But he still outlived all of his sons. Passed the throne to a grandson. So that's something?

As count Tancred of Malta (first ruler of the isle), two wives (divorced the first one at 40 years old), I have taken all the fertility bonus I can (lustful, energetic and hedonist) and let a courtier seduce Tancred (plot to seduce) so he got a lover. I avoided all the "stress test event". Finally, Tancred died at 60 years old, of syphillis, with one legitimate daughter and one illegitimate son.

Brythonia, Arturus I, died of natural causes at age 70.
Queen Mother Satica, first (and only wife) of Arturus I, alive at 69.
Mada Pendragon, eldest daughter of Arturus, dead at age 29 of illness, no issue.
Her aged (and celibate) husband survived her, and died at age 80.
Queen Aytena, Arturus's second and last daughter, alive at age 39.
Aytena's first husband died at age 69 of natural causes.
Satica, Aytena's eldest daughter, and the only one by her first husband, died at age 20.
Satica's widower is still living, as is their 1 year old daughter, Godgifu of Chester.
Princess Umaxa, heir to the throne of Brythonia, age 8, daughter of Aytena by her second husband, is age 8, betrothed to the 5 year old great-grandson of Comes (formerly Dux) Maximus Artorius of Dyfed (only son of only son of eldest son; thought it was a matrilinear betrothal, but it looks like it's a normal... have to see what happens when they both come of age.)
Rex Amilo Bolgios, Aytena's Galatian second husband, is 32, with a strong claim on the throne of Singidunum (which is much too far away to consider pursuing at this point.)

The Welsh Artorii have a healthy brood (Maximus has 3 sons and 3 daughters, all but the eldest daughter living.) The Cornish Artorii are the hillbilly branch (current king Gerallus I, grandson of Magnus, is 27 and has been married 3 times, twice to aunts, and currently to a cousin. Other than Gerallus, his wife, and his son by wife/aunt #2, the only other surviving member of the clan is his 20 year old spinster sister.)

By the way... female rulers and consorts of states using Latin titles need some love.
Queen - Regina
Countess - Comitessa or Comitissa
Haven't found a translation of duchess or baroness yet, but I'm sure the Vatican has something they use (but finding it might be a problem.)

Found a scanned dictionary that had baronissa for baroness (but marked as modern usage.) That dictionary didn't have an entry for duchess, but I agree that ducessa is probably best (unless you use dux for the feminine as well... the dictionary's entry for countess had comes as well as comitissa as the translation.)
