USA gets access to the sea at San Francisco.
MEX gets El Paso from Texas
CAN gets less provinces

but overall, it is KM's map.

CSA.. I'll set it up, and can always "event" its formation later on. ..

I can see now I still have to give CSA some oil from Texas, so it should get ? Baton Rouge, Lafayette. DONE

EDIT: I like the "meeting place" where the different states meet right at the base of the new Canada... I don't think I would live there...!!

Perhaps give Mex Las Vegas?... that Nevada stateline is ugly. Also I think that's a fair enough map. I tried to seperate them based on river systems, which is how it's come out here, so if CSA is going to be a revolter (that ENG has the option of squelching or letting go?) (also, German backing? Or Soviet? (trololol Stalin backs Soviet Texarkana XD)) I'd give them all of virginia so they get up to their next river.

I have no issues with Texarkana, but I want it called that in the game. I know it's pushy, but I just... really love a Canticle for Leibowitz.

I'm just now trying to find out how I create a new country?
Any ideas guys?

What files do I need to change/create new?

For instance TEX is already in the game, but adding TEX to a command still doesn't make the country appear? I had to use POL or FRA to show you the map, as TEX didn't work?
Doesn't seem to be any guidance. I've checked hoi2 wiki, the DH dev diaries, the DH mods docs...

A few thoughts:

Canada shouldn't have to give up any land even to its mutual allies, if the conflict is long and drawn out, Canadians likely would be up in arms if they were told that they had to give up land they had fought long and hard for, even if to connect JAPs winnings.

I do on the other hand, perhaps see a Canadian occupation of the great lakes territories being plausible. The bulk of Canada's population has always lived in Ontario and in turn the region would likely be ravaged by any prolonged conflict, so it could make sense if an angry Canadian government occupied the region for a few years and transferred some of the industry and infrastructure from the great lakes region to Canada as fair compensation.

Another possibility comes to mind for an event, if the lines held between Ontario and Michigan had held as a stalemate for some years, perhaps there could be an event a-la-warsaw uprising in Michigan and the American side of the lakes? Perhaps the native American communities start to remember old resentment for the US aand revolt (and transfer to CAN command) under the promise that after the occupation they can make a proto-native state?

EDIT; Yes, Canada loses the East bank of the St. Lawrence Bay area, but I don't think that would be a problem.. seeing as the Brits saved their skins...?

Originally I was thinking of having a native Indian territory in the Black Hills of Dakota, I think it would take up 3 or 4 provinces.
I was also considering having (as you say) a "southern-Lakes" - Michigan territory, again separate to Canada...??

What stopped me was the "having to create new territories" which I don't know how to.. But I'm busy trying to find out...

Q: What do I need to edit to make a new Country?
A: Making a new country from scratch is alot of work. First you would need to Hearts of Iron 2\config\world_names.csv and make change the entry for one of the userdefined countries (U00 - U19) to what you want your new country to be called. Now you take the tag for the country you just named and place it in the list of selectable nations in the Scenario File you wish to use it in. Now you must make a .inc File for that nation. You must also place an entry for that nation Hearts of Iron 2\db\revolt.txt that lists core provinces and the nations Capital. Finally you must place a sheild in Hearts of Iron 2\GFX\map\shields and a flag in Hearts of Iron 2\GFX\map\flags

Q: What about Ministers and Leaders?
A: You must make a Minister File and Leader File for that country. Your tag is the User-Defined tag that you changed into your country in world_names.csv

Q: Where do the pictures for events go?
A: Hearts of Iron 2\GFX\events_pics

Q: How do I change the amount of provinces required to liberate a nation
A: Go to Hearts of Iron 2\db\revolt.txt, Search for the tag of the country which you wish to change. The date and expiry date are the years that the country becomes available to liberate and stops being liberatable. The minimum field is the minimum amount of provinces required the liberate that nation, the nation wil always get these provinces upon being liberated and you will need all of them to liberate it. The extra field is extra provinces that the nation can receive if you control them. If you do not control them, then the liberated nation will instead get national claims on them. The Capital is the liberated nation's capital. intrinsic_gov_type means that only nations of that type may liberate this nation. It also means that if a nation which this liberatable nation has cores in/on is couped by that a governemnt of that type, it will become this liberatable nation. You may comment things out in revolt.txt

If possible you could create a few of those client states. Something like some Indian nations or a spontanious revolt of several states would be just awesome and add to more in depth new wars with USA...

I would also suggest something like a puppet colony in the East that belongs to GB (13 colonies military command or something...) and the same to JAP, Hirohito land, a puppet state of Japan, while Japan annexes the pacific islands straightaway..?

Hi Tim!
Yeah, this is only a start. I see this as a long term hobby, so it can only get better with more and deeper, immersive goings-on.

The map is only a beginning. North America is a huge place, so yes I do see smaller "cantons", puppets or specialist provinces where refugees from some far flung calamity have come to "America" to escape and start again, but maintain their customs or whatever. You could think of any minority, and of course if they were a coastal entity, any nasty Power could see them as an easy "in" to the Continent, where he can of course threaten to upset the applecart?

Let me just get this "creating new countries" sorted and anything is possible.

By the way, I've gone off the idea of Hirohitoland... as I think JAP should be forced to maintain it directly, and ENG of course on the East Coast. Maybe after 5 years or so, it could become just another puppet colony of Japan.

For Texas, did you first grant them independence, right? Like here:

After the independence command, you can add the other things related with TEX, and will work.
PD: value = o means that the unit in the area change allegiance. You need to change it to 1 to avoid it.
when = 1 would force them to be democratic, when = 0 no.

Just add that in DH you can use the tags U00 - U99

Thanks KaiserMuffin and Arcangelus, much appreciated.

I was reading up on the Spanish Civil War and Italy annexing Ethiopia.... and how Italy and Spain could be considered to be "soft fascists".

I also read that Mexico sent aid to the Republican side of the civil war.. I'd already been given (earlier in this forum) the idea of Spain and Italy forging an alliance, and looking to form a kind of roman empire... With Mexico aiding the socialists, it could be an "in" for the soft fascists to North America. They may invade Mexico? I'd also an idea where they want to forge a land-border by taking land from France, but I think this would be unrealistic?

Having previously been totally against "another CSA", I've now come round to the idea. But I'd see them as totally against the United States "union", a total re-run of their culture, except this time its not anti-(thinks.. how do I say this?).. anti-African-American... they are totally anti-socialist, anti-communist. So, they are not soft-fascists, but ultra-religious, believe the Earth was formed in 7 days (because the Bible says so!!!), that kind of thing. I see a CSA government made up of the grandsons of the CSA of the 1850's (probably great-great-grandsons ?).

I see Texas as being totally Republican, in the sense of the American Republican party. Ultra-hardline, ultra-militaristic, wanting to re-form the United States, but also being quite happy in their independence. They are not a puppet to anyone. But for one of the Powers to take them on in battle, it would be a hard-nut to crack.

I'll get back to creating those States. Cheers and again, Thanks. :p

It is :p, but you do not have to be ultra religious per se :p.

I see where you want to go though :). I can imagine that some sort of democratic fusion between the two parties will arise in the old USA. That Texas becomes very hardcore republican (make all major republican figures move to that area.).

Maybe another idea is, if for instance RR is very high, partisans pop up. What if some nations will not immediately declare independence through events and such but can form from rebel organizations? It would mean you just add some nations in the revolt.txt etc. but not linked to independence events, so depending on the game you play and how partisans evolve you get different nations. Although this could interfere with the normal nations that arise from the ashes.

JAP direct control is maybe even better :). I don't think it would work though that Italy and Spain make some ships and transport their troops to attack MEX. It just would be too unrealistic. I can imagine though that they start putting pressure on neighbouring nations.

You know those great-great-grandsons of CSA historical figures.. they just look exactly like their great-great-grandfather, and they just love to dress up in those uniforms of the civil war time, and cannot wait to get their photo taken....:p

I wouldn't have a clue who I could choose for CSA 1936? I don't really want to copy other people's work. So for the moment, these will do and they're quite good pics... I batch processed the lot ... it took about 2 seconds...

In game ministers of Confederacy, added with some ministers from Kaiserreich or based on them (so the CSA would get events like, military leaders flee to CSA...etc.)

I like your setup, but how are you planning to cope with the southern california independence? I can imagine that they declare independence and then almost immediately are attacked and defeated. What if JAP invades southern California first?
