Holly Jolly Invasion adds a horde of Santa Claus worshiping elves that will appear
in Northern Scandinavia sometime after 900. The Elfin Horde follows a
pre-reformed pagan religion, and the leader of the Horde is the religious head.
The invasion events are scripted so that this horde is much more likely to appear
in the real life month of December, and they should only appear in one out of ten
games otherwise.

This mod changes the Crusade Cooldown time in defines.lua in order to allow the
elves to declare Great Jolly Wars infinitely, but normal religions still have the
crusade cooldown of 30 years, due to a modification of the Crusade CB and some
careful use of province modifiers. As such, if this mod is used with any other mod
that changes defines.lua or adds Crusade enabled religions, it may have problems.

For future updates:
This mod only has very rudimentary graphics implemented. I would like to add Elf portraits and a better religion icon, but as can be seen with Adjustments for Unusual Heresies, I'm not good at making religious icons, and I definitely can't make portraits.

Update: Dec 9 @ 6:48pm
-Added the "Elf" trait, which gives +3 Health and -1 Martial. This trait is given automatically on birth to any characters born to parents that both have it, and has a 5% chance of being inherited by children born to Human-Elf couples.

-Adjusted the history files for the December 25th, 1225 start date so that the Elf Horde no longer owns Finnmark, as this was causing issues for the Horde when controlled by the AI if they attacked nearby realms. In order to keep the Elves playable at that start, I rigged a fake patrician palace holding to make them selectable. This holding will disappear immediately if the game is unpaused, but has the unfortunate side effect of making the Horde unselectable if you don't have "The Republic." In order to work around this, you will need to wait for the game to advance one day, and then use the command console to switch to the Lord Regent if you don't have the DLC.

Update: Dec 7 @ 7:58pm
*Added a bookmark at December 25, 1225 with the Jolly Dominion already on the map - They disappear if time is changed one day in either direction in order to prevent issues with the game's existing history files.

*Made Clausians immune to the attrition created by unreformed pagan counties, as their spawn location was causing some issues with losing too many troops. (They were scripted to be resistant to normal attrition already)

This is great. Could you implement AGOT's dragon system, but with reindeer?

I would need the AGOT team's permission to do that, and it would also be a bit intensive in terms of scripting for something that I originally started scripting out of boredom as a companion mod for the Songs of Yuletide DLC. I'm not opposed to it, but it definitely isn't a priority. Right now my priorities are the implementation of a bookmark with the horde already on the map, the implementation of a racial trait for the elves, and finally adding a few flavor events for the Clausian religion. (And potentially heresies)

The portraits are stored in the game files as a bunch of individual image files that are stitched together in different combinations as directed by various scripts. I know how to manipulate the scripts, but I'm really bad at detailed images like ck2's portraits. I can make decent looking trait icons, and can do pallet swaps of existing graphics, but that's essentially the limit of my graphics modding capabilities.

You could make the gold crowns into a light green crown.

They should show one hundred percent of the time in December.
Otherwise why? Subscription to a mod that doesn't always work is pointless.

They DO show up with the same frequency as the Mogol and Aztec hordes during December. The one in ten games thing only applies if the mod is enabled and it isn't December.
The mean time to happen for the event to fire is approximately 200 years during December, and it can trigger any time after 900. If you want to play with the horde guaranteed to be on the map, either use the bookmark I created for it, lower the MTTH on the arrival event, or type "event hollyjolly.1" into the command console.
