Now I am creating the trade sphere system which covers the entire map.

Here is my idea.
I. unique trade sphere
The new system has several trade spheres which are represented with modifiers. I am planning following spheres.
- Venetian Trade Sphere (center:Venice)
- Genoese Trade Sphere (center: Genoa)
- Greece Trade Sphere (center:Constantinople)
- Arabian Trade Sphere (center:Alexandria)
- Persian Trade Sphere (center:Isfahan)
- Central Asian Trade Sphere (center:Sarai)
- French Trade Sphere (center:Champagne)
- Russian Trade Sphere (center:Kiev)
- South German Trade Sphere (center:Nürnberg)
- Hanseatic Trade Sphere (center:Lübeck)
- Dutch Trade Sphere (center:Antwerp)
- Portuguese Trade Sphere (center:Lisbon)
Some of them appear already in 1066, the others will be established later.

Each trade sphere modifier can have bonus, but they should be characterized. For example, Arabian and Persian sphere (i.e. Muslim spheres) can have high tax modifier for the temples, while Greece trade sphere guarantees a bonus on the cultural technology. The amount of the total modifiers on the provinces changes the bonus of the trade centers.

2. expansion of trade spheres
These trade spheres spread into the neighboring provinces. However, each of them can not spread from Lisbon to Isfahan, since they have strong regions and weak regions. For example, Venice was active in the Levant, while the Hansa dominated the North and Baltic seas. I will divide the provinces of CK2 with several regions defined by the continent.txt, and this definition will affects how the spheres will expand.
Here is the strong points of each trade spheres so far.
- Venetian Trade Sphere (Eastern Mediterranean, very little weak regions)
- Genoese Trade Sphere (Western Mediterranean, Black Sea)
- Greece Trade Sphere (Greece, Levant)
- Arabian Trade Sphere (North Africa, Western Arabia)
- Persian Trade Sphere (Persia, Eastern Arabia)
- Central Asian Trade Sphere (Central Asia, Black Sea)
- French Trade Sphere (French Inland)
- Russian Trade Sphere (Russia)
- South German Trade Sphere (Central Europe)
- Hanseatic Trade Sphere (North and Baltic Sea)
- Dutch Trade Sphere (Netherlands, Britain and Scandinavia)
- Portuguese Trade Sphere (Spain)

3. Trade battles
One province could have several trade sphere modifiers, however it leads serious conflicts between the merchants in the different groups. So it might be very rare that one province keeps more than three trade spheres. The strong and weak regions above influence this battle.

4. Relations to the feudal lords
The above system is controlled by random events. What can the player do with these economic battles? The player as independent ruler can choose his favorite trade sphere and do embargo who he dislike. This policy affects the development of the trade spheres under his realm. The embargo of a trade sphere will give a CB to the ruler who owns the trade center of that sphere.

So it is my idea so far. I will release a test version if I have finished the basic system with the trade spheres which appear in 1066. The other features of the Hanseatic League should be based on these system in future.

So here is the test version of the trade spheres mod
http://www.mediafire.com/?g29cgvx1x6o4vhq

Notes
- this mod isn't compatible with the Hanseatic League Mod.
- there are three spheres (genoese, venetian and arabian). Each has different modifier and strong regions.
- I haven't added the remove events now.

If you have time, please check how each sphere spreads. The comments about the balance would be also appreciated.

Who want to see a new Hanseatic League mod with the republic DLC? And what kind of improvements do you want? I have some time for the consideration and modification.

2 things I see to go further than vanilla on it :
-a less monopolistic Hansa over northern sphere could a nice improvement. adding concurrency or split the Hansa (Danzig proto league vs Lubeck-Hamburg proto league at earlier dates f.e.).
-add some differentiation between Hansa and italian republics : special/adapted buildings, flavour events, specific law or whatever...

I like your idea!
Schleswig could be a trade state before Lübeck, too. Hedeby (Haitabu) was an important trade spot for the vikings.
English and Dutch merchants could also appear in late game. They were strong rivals of the Hansa.

well, you seem to know much more than me on this topic^^
Dutch of course ! how I could have forgot them. Frisia was a republic at some point IIRC (well in CK1 or a mod for it).
English enter in competition in London wagainst hanséatic trade post there (despite royal protection but it failed or something).

also.
-Piracy (events/raid CB...)
-maybe some light trading goods system but I don't see any viable system fir it ATM.

You know, I am at the university of Kiel (CAU) and there are good historical seminars about the Hansa. :D
Frisia was rather a peasant republic, but the appearance of such independent factions would be fun.

As far as I know, this mod has included victual brothers before the official patches contained it, but we can remake piracy events, of course.
Trade goods are a must for this mod, but I won't make coastal provinces too strong with these items, since inland provinces should get also some benefits from them.

Well, it is a historical reality. :) There was another peasant republic in this region. Tiny land and impassable march made these communal organization possible.

As for the Frisian, they were a danger for the Hanseatic trade in Flanders. The Frisian were great fishers and sailors, and they attacked ships of the Hanseatic merchants too.

well France is another one where peasants decided at some point that beheading kings was a good thing and then elected an emperor^^
And later (after 1815) the bring down the king and make a new king... only to bring him to fall later to :D And then the ellect the next emperor after a short republican time. Yes... The french a a weird bunch ;)

But yes... Dithmarschen and Frisa a not easy to represent in this game. Frisia had the Frisian freedom if you are interested Arko. We need a "CK2: Peasants of the North" DLC for this.

But Frisia could work as merchant republic... They were some mighty families in Frisia. The five families would of this families. Most of them a 14th century... But it could work. The families I would choose are: tom Brok, Beninga, Cirksena, Abdena and Allena. Eventual Ripperda if we include dutch Frisia too. But I don't know which family we should delete for them. They are all important. The feud beetween the tom Brok and Abdena and Allena was important. Beninga was old and respected. The Cirksena became later counts of Frisia. If I must delete on of this I would choose the Cirksena. You could make them as Barons in the county of East Frisia... But in the game time the a the less important of this families. So I would substitute Cirksena by Ripperda.

yes and now we have a very presidential system making the president quite powerfull, so it still has a part of monarchy in it ;)

Another question. Witch aspects should I include for inland provinces? I would like to avoid to give economical bonus only to coastal provinces with republics, but I don't have enough idea yet about inland trade and economy. Maybe I could add more precious trade goods such as gold for non coastal provinces, or giving Mess modifier in some provinces such as Champagne or Frankfurt.

trade roads province modifiers unlocking new economical buildings in cities and castles ?
fluvial trade roads modifiers with some similar effects ?
Mess ? = fairs ? if so, yes, seasonal fairs is a must have.

Messe. :D
Trade routes would be great, although I have no idea how I can represent fluvial trade hubs and routes. For exmaple, how can we create routes between Venice and Brugge via Frankfurt or Ulm if they are always changed? And how do these routes interact with the activity of the maritime republics?

roads might be static sadly as I don't really know what happens to depending building if the modifier is removed.
the importance of the road is made in this case by the use you of it : the more you develop buildings the more cash you earn. but it fails simulating competition between roads or cities on 2 different roads.

trade nodes cumulate the bonuses of the different modifiers + cumulate the building possiblities. you might also make cross requirements for buildings, making some requiring both a land and fluvial modifier.

I'm working on a quite perveted system but it requires to disable completly boats from the map. then I changed the sprite for trade posts, made coastal (with a one dot maritime province in + adjacencies to link those) all provinces I want to be able to develop the trade post holding, then specialisation of holding with the modifiers+buildings system I described above.
