Nice! On to witch hunters now right? ;)

Already on it :)

I had some stupid problems with it for the last few hours, but finally got it sorted, so now I'm scripting away again at a decent pace!

Nice! we're still going to have the event where the witch hunter tries to hang 13 heretics from the same rope right? :p

Well before too long you'll be able to play as Vlad himself ( or Konrad, or Mannfred if you swing that way) and make sure that doesn't happen. ;)
I shall... I shall...

Yeah, speaking of which, I just finished the Von Carstein events today. Or well, the first draft of them at least :)

Edit: Oh! Saw that you just mentioned that earlier too, Illathid - maybe I'll post a mini preview about it soon as well.
That'd be awesome! Are the event specific to the Carnsteins? Or if I use the ruler creator to put a Vampire in Sylvania will they still work?

Well, Vlad gets a very overpowering CB that lets him take out entire kingdoms at a time, and this is tied to the Von Carstein ring. So perhaps if you make a ruler designed vampire with the Von Carstein ring, you might get the same quest-line. He will lose the Von Carstein ring at some point, however, and with that goes the kingdom-level subjugation CB as well :p

I'd post a preview soon-ish, but it's better to wait until Arsakes has completed the Necromancy spell system since that's a pretty integral part of playing Sylvania :D

I don't think it's explicitly named in newer editions (that I recall). However, it's pretty well established that there is no place In the old world called Carstein, so it so it seems silly to not use the whole dynasty name for the ring. The other option we have, which is probably better IMHO, is to call it the Ring of Vashanesh.

A preview of the Witch Hunter system:

The basic gist is that in each count or above level court of a priest holding, a few witch hunters will spawn amongst the old world religions.

These of course have the trait Witch Hunter, but under certain conditions, they will leave their temples and go root out evil in the world. One such instance is when a province has chaos infestation (caused by cultist plots), in this case an outbreak of nurgle rot:

u88VvQ0.jpg

Our Emperor is concerned, and agrees to send for a Witch Hunter:

hSNNRZz.jpg

Now Witch Hunters use their learning score to determine how good they are at their job. When they complete missions, they will gain in learning, so experienced Witch Hunters are to be feared if you are a cultist, but inexperienced ones are not so scary. In this case, he has a learning score of 6, which surely makes him a pretty bad Witch Hunter.

He arrives promptly:

J9XNeNO.jpg

iRjgWrZ.png

And wastes no time getting to work:

Fe7644U.png

If you allow him, he will start purging the province using quite harsh methods, increasing revolt risk a little bit, but also removing the chaos infestation. If you refuse - well, why would a god fearing Sigmarite refuse? If you do, your OWN suspicion factor (used to track how close cultists are to being revealed) will increase, even though you are not a cultist - people will begin to suspect you are :p

He soon identifies someone at court at having acted suspiciously, probably because he has the lustful trait (some non-pious traits will cause witch hunters to possibly think you are a cultist):

QUPVCvs.jpg

If you do as the Witch Hunter asks and kill him with fire, your own suspicion goes down. So if you are in fact a secret cultist (which I assure you that I am not!) it can pay off to sacrifice a few courtiers to witch hunters once in a while lowering your own suspicion level.

In this case, since he is nobody, we turn him over to the executioners:

3wgQRFS.png

Another courtier is targeted for suspicious behavior, and this time we decide to let him go:

0wWhSS7.png

Both of these courtiers had lower intrigue scores than the Witch Hunter's learning score, so they had no good explanations for their suspicious behavior, and therefore were pointed out as cultists. Beware however! If a Witch Hunter is paranoid, he will take even a good explanation as proof of heresy, as surely cultists are expert liars, and therefore having an alibi or a good excuse is exactly what a good cultist would do :D

Now my own Emperor's intrigue is actually higher than the Witch Hunters, but let's give him the hedonist trait and imbecile trait, so that he is not able to defend himself against the accusations:

BTikTW1.jpg

He does not believe my halfwit excuses, and openly accuses me of heresy!

lR9rgGM.png

Since I am independent, I can either choose to banish him or imprison him - though this will raise my suspicion levels.

If I were not independent, I would appeal to my liege, and he would decide whether or not to burn me, imprison me, or exonerate me.

It's still very early stages of the system, but I think this shows more or less how it would work in one instance at least :) There'll be other cases where Witch Hunters appear if your suspicion levels get too high, or other circumstances that warrant a visit. When the Witch Hunter's work is done, he'll return to the court of a temple of his own religion.

A very intricate and awesome set of events. Liking it.

Just one concern I have is in relation to that Imprison/Banish him system once he accuses your leader of heresy and your independent. Is there a chance of it failing? Because it seems overpowered. Sure I get a raise in my suspicion levels, but I could probably lower that down or that my level is so low that it will be insignificant. So essentially just imprisoning him/banishing him is effectively a get out of jail card. If there is a chance tied to it, can it be tied to his martial trait? Witch Hunters don't go quietly, and the more experienced they are, the more likely the player is going to fail and end up on the stake!

Looks great.

Thanks! It's a lot of fun modding in the Warhammer universe, hehe.

Witch Hunters don't go quietly, and the more experienced they are, the more likely the player is going to fail and end up on the stake!

As we begin testing gameplay, I'll no doubt have to make lots of tweaks to get it right in terms of risk of being a cultist vs reward. It would be nice to have the Witch Hunter get a chance to escape, but I kind of imagine the scene playing out in the throne room where the liege is openly accused in front of all his courtiers (and guards), and I doubt there'd be much chance for the witch hunter to escape. This is for independent characters only, keep in mind - if you're a vassal duke or even vassal king, you won't have the power to imprison a witch hunter, you'll have to appeal to your liege instead like everyone else. Plus, Witch Hunters cannot be player characters (since they have to move from court to court) so it's not like we have to take balance concerns into account in that respect.

It's not really a get out of jail free card though; as suspicion levels rise, I'll make other events that give negative effects.

For example a suspicion level of 1-10 is people talking behind your back, wondering.

A suspicion level of 10+ is everyone thinking you are a cultist or a heretic, and this will make running your realm increasingly difficult unless you take steps to address these suspicions. If you're a vassal, your liege could imprison you or declare war on you if you refuse to go.

Is it possible that Nurgle's Rot could lead to a chance of a Plaguebearer revolt?

Anything is possible I suppose :) But it won't be in the first batch of events, I'm just making a basic cultist system and a basic witch hunter system, and then moving on to other gameplay events that need to be done before we can release a playable version.

Yeah, WFRP 2e called it the Ring of Vashanesh and explicitly said that Vlad was in fact Vashanesh. However, GW has backed off from the whole Vlad = Vashanesh thing.

Also, great work as always Blood Royal!

By Sigmars holy name when will this be realesed

When it's ready :D Personally - and no promises - I think that if we keep up the current pace of work on it it could in theory be in time for Christmas. And also keep in mind that this will only be a playable beta, there'll still be lots of unfinished stuff in the non-empire region. Once Arsakes finishes his (very impressive looking!) magic system, we'll at least have a large chunk of the necessary gameplay elements in place in addition to the work I'm doing on that front.

Nice cultist events! Best hide my Khorne army before my liege brings in a witch hunter :D

Hehe, it's gonna be fun playing a cultist I think, but I suspect it'll be a short career if you don't have a high intrigue skill - so even if you are a warrior focused Khornite (?) to survive under-cover, you'll need some more subtle skills as well!

No, you'd have to event-cheat your way to that in-game, typing "event cultist.5" or whatever it is that gives you the choice to turn to one of the chaos gods.

Hidden cultists are based on character flags, so that wouldn't work with the ruler designer.

Edit: If you give yourself certain traits in the ruler designer however, pleasing to the Chaos god of your choice, the event should pop up within a couple of years.

Perhaps, for the sake of the ruler designer you could add cultist traits that the player could select and then in the first ticks of the game an event will pop up, clear the trait, and add the flag.
