This is amazing!

I had the idea to make a mod just like this, despite my ignorance of how to make my own mods. I REALLY wanted a Warhammer total conversion mod. However, I was focused on, and still am, Warhammer Fatasy Roleplay, not Battles. About three weeks ago, I started working on a map, the cultures and religions, without even trying to find out if someone else was working on it. My map was of a much smaller scope but I have of course realized that I could never have completed the project on my own since I'm a novice on event scripting. That didn't stop me though, although I progressed very slowly. Now, I can't wait for you guys to release this amazing mod!

After I found out about this two days ago, I have now read through the entire thread and everything seems like it's progressing admirably. Keep up the good work guys! I'd love to help out with testing or even with some of the drudgery if there is still need. I am however a complete novice on modding, and although I have learned a few things in past few weeks, I have only my enthusiasm for Warhammer to contribute.

I don't remember if you guys have a map of Athel Loren but this would be a good starting point. The big words like Modryn and Talsyn are the individual forests and are the same in English.

Athel Loren is actually 12 different forests with distinct kingdoms. Arranoc is forever summer, Atylwyth is forever in winter, Tirsyth is always in Autumn, Mordryn is always night, etc. I doubt it will be easy to distinguish them in the game, but you could make it have an effect on economics and so forth.

What are the roots (upper right)....I know it says dead and living (I remember that much from spanish class).....but....I need context.

Those are the Roots of the World, the fantasy equivalent of the web way. The Oak of Eternity has roots that spread across the world. They can travel through them. The Living roots still work. The dead roots are closed.

It's the solution to the age old problem of "How do I explain how my Wood Elves are fighting X if they don't leave their forest realm?"

In the Nagash book Everqueen Alarielle travels from the Gaen Vale to Athel Loren to beseech the Elf Lords to save the Everchild (her daughter) and Araloth takes his army to find her in exchange for Alarielle using her magic to try to save the mortally wounded Queen Ariel. She travels by means of the Roots.

Well thanks for the enthusiasm! We're using both WFRP and WFB resourcves for planning our mod, so it should appeal to fans of both groups.

Well, we have a copy of the new map from the 2014 Wood Elves army book, but we're still not sure on whether to include Athel Loren or not.

Well, I will say there's demand for it, Illa. :)

Yeah not adding the pointy eared tree hugging hippies would be kinda not fitting with warhammer, they do play in a larger area than just their glorified precharchol dump.

Honestly we're treading water a bit right now waiting to see what Charlemagne will bring. Tribal mechanics would be great for a lot of the map, but we still don't know exactly how they work.

Edit: as a side note, Creative Assembly is announcing a new Total War title at the EGX, and there's a a lot of speculation it's going to be a Warhammer Fantasy game. Thought people might want to know.

Yeah, CK2 and Total War games scratch a very different itch for me, and I think a fantasy Total War game would be a lot of fun.

Plus, it'd probably make people more interested in Warhammer fantasy which would only be a benefit for us.

In Athel Loren the trees hug you. Then you die. Then they eat your souls.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what sort of game Creative Assembly is working on. Given that Blood Bowl and Mordheim are being handled by other companies we kind of have to assume its a grand strategy game, but no one knows yet. They've kept it pretty tight beyond the fact that they are working on something in the IP.

Rome II was a horrible release but its pretty decent as of the free Augustus expansion. If they take the time to iron the bugs out and kill bad ideas early and release its in a playable state that'd be great... I mean they make a good product, its just not as polished as it should be. But then I'm kind of an addicted fan boy, I've been playing Total War since Medieval I.

Hell (although I doubt it) maybe it's a new Warhammer MMORPG. Age of Reckoning is gone, nothing should prevent a new one and maybe Creative Assembly wants to get in on that action. They could probably do something interesting and drastically more living world than the Mythic RvR take on the game.

Well, if this is what's coming, then as long as they learn from Rome then it could turn out well. If they ignore there lessons.. then they really are complete idiots. Will have to see what happens.

yeah, I think CA realizes they've lost a lot of consumer goodwill so they can't just half-ass a game again... If they didn't they should probably be shut down.

Well, too bad companies like CA don't think like that. Money talks. Sadly it tends to be the loudest.

After all Total War Rome II was the most commercially successful title they ever made. I think 90% of that was through pre-orders. I must've been the only one to have gotten bad vibes from their dev interviews to convince me NOT to pre-order.

I'm a firm believer company image is more important than profitable projects, but CA may be looking at it differently. They, like a lot of other corporate developers these days, try to get as much money as possible for minimal effort. That does sound incredibly sleazy, but when you have a CA developer state that the AI is more sophisticated than all the previous titles and witness that fall apart upon release, well you gotta expect the worse from these guys.

Hopefully there will be a lot less pre-orders this time round and people will actually wait for release to see whether a game lives up to its potential or not, rather than throwing money at them and making the game incredibly profitable before its even out! What kind of motivation is that anyhow!?! "Hey guys, we have our cash! Fuck it! Release that shit!"

Sadly not all consumers are smart. Can't be since Call of Duty is still a successful franchise, although it may be in decline at this stage.

I can see where you're coming from, but the massive mistake you're making is assuming that they're bad just because they aren't like Paradox gsg's. They are two separate styles of strategy game. It's the same criticism with your point that it isn't' historical, while your history knowledge is kind of bad in it's own right, just because they aren't accurate representations of their respective timeframes to the dot, doesn't mean they are any worse for it.
