As far as I known the attitude toward mercenaries vary from Duchy to Duchy. The most upttight chivlarous Dukes frown upon mercenaries as hired thugs who fight for gold instead of honor, while the more pragmatic Dukes don't hesitate to hire them. What they often do however is disguise the mercenaries or give them some meaningless "official" business that is totaly-not-mercenary-work-for-real-you-guys. The Duchy of Gasconnie is known to hire very well armed "sheperds" to guard often a single sheep conveniently grazing in the path of Orc raiders.

So yeah Bretonnians don't hire mercenaries to fight in war. Thoses 200 Tileans ? Hired cooks for the marriage of the Duke I swear. They are just protecting the wedding cake.

A Kislev Hussar unit model:
O fruit of retexturing existing models:

And nope, there will be no wings since there is no appropriate model in whole Ck2 :(

I can assure you that portraits will be of better quality, making this one was a pain in the ass.

You can't make custom models, you can only apply different texture to existing one.
Also scalling is possible but only symmetrical one (no scaling along given axis - so no dwarves ) :(

From the info i've gained and the first works i can tell that I will be able to make more or less nice-looking skins for elves, but that would be all.
I really would like to do it - blame paradox not me (also praise them in the same time beacuse thanks to the tools they give us we even consider to do Warhammer mod.)

My daily once per day routine consists of logging into Paradox, checking mod section, checking to see if there's an update to the Warhammer thread, check out what's the latest post... log off in a sad droopy face and wait till next day.

Maybe we will post some puppies in the front page to cheer you up guys. :D

Thread isn't updated too often beacause most of the stuff happens in the github reposityory.
If that will cheer up I can say since the beginning of my modding I changed something like 40 000 lines of code.

Also I've developed a really nice method based on 3D graphics that will allow us to quickly create high-quality portraits with ease. I'm realy proud of it, however portraits are on the bottom of the priority list right now.
We need to port basic mechanics to be in-line with Warhammer lore which is very mundane and boring task, but when finished will finally allow me to implement those cool new features I was working before.

Regards,
Pietrko

Just wondering, would you be able to use the EU4 models for units etc? With them running on the same engine and all.

I thought about that: even if they will work we won't be able to use them beacuse of legal issues.
We have no way to ensure that mod user have a copy of EU4 and paradox policy strictly forbids use of DLC stuff if there is no way of knowing if the player has them, this applies even more to third-party stuff like EU4.
Besides EU4 won't be much help since the bigger problem is with non-human races.

Is there no way of depicting the units as just a banner, with a sword/bow/sabre/etc crossed behind it to indicate the majority of units? It seems a shame that you can't fiddle with the models that much otherwise. Might be worth chucking a post in Meneth's thread if it hasn't been done already.

I thought about it if we could find in-game model of such banner it would be possible. But I didn't spot any suitable candidate in game files. However maybe it is not pointless to ask paradox for such feature. I think simple all purpose battle standard in place of armies would be great feature for modders.

I've made a post about your idea, provide some feedback guys

A little look at some of my recent work on the graphical culture of the human factions. All created using elements taken from the vanilla and DLC portraits. Mostly I'm aiming to capture the Early Modern/Renaissance look of most Warhammer humans (Empire in particular), and remind people that Warhammer is not actually a high medieval setting unless your Bretonnian.

Young kurgan male face, tell me if i should make more "muscular" keep in mind this is a base fase (execpt those tiny scars i've add for fun)

In general we would be happy for references.

Some more kurgans with random features - Kurgans come with great variety of facial features 13-8 for most of them
(I'm still working on the clothes and minor features):

Work based on vanilla muslims and:
Russian Portraits DLC
Mongol portraits DLC
