the issue with my desktop PC is... a fun story.
I was absent mindedly cleaning the desktop air intake when I accidentally pushed the grills, breaking the blade of my high speed cooling fan. I didn't replace it yet, and the vibration was monstrous, which probably led to problems like my HD probably getting disconnected midoperation or something.
Now I can't log on because of essentially a BLACK screen of death after log on, and/or a BSOD "c000021a " fatal error :laugh:
It's annoying because... I know exactly what the problem is (apparently, "sxs.dll is "not appropriate" or something according to Safe Mode when I start it with that) . And I tried using a workaround to directly replace that file and that doesn't solve it. Startup Repair doesn't either. My only option is to buy a new hard drive somehow sometime and install windows there, making my current hard drive (and all the 200+ GB of games and anime in it ) and making it a slave to the new HD. That, or reinstall windows and say sayonara to all those files (many of which are anime I haven't even gotten to watching ) - the Fates are messing with me here )

(somehow, I ended up making a rant here because I'm staring at Startup Repair right now, but I'm sure Darkgamma will understand... since he's been having PC revolts himself :rofl: )

Strictly from the IT gut point of view; manually replacing a windows library is like patching a crack in a dam with a bandaid. I was in a similar situation once (one crashes, unrecoverable hard drive and a laptop computer) and I managed to salvage the most important files by patching the hard drive to the laptop through an USB-SATA adapter, then I formatted and re-installed my OS. I realize not everyone has one, but you can find pretty cheap ones for 4,50€ (6$ approx.) in any IT appliances store.

right now, I'm just grinding through all the stuff I can find in forums and stuff. the most pertinent are those that involve my specific errors, namely these three magic phrases: "Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover", "Problem Signature 06: Corrupt Volume" , "Error Code = 0x490". While they won't exactly help me "fix it" directly, they do point me out to pretty much anecdotal circumstances that just might work.
It's like listening to mythical "cures for hangovers" really :rofl: ( when the best cure is simply rehydration )

We has a sub-god of Shaytana, he is the god of IT, I shall listen with care. (My comp likes to crash during fps games, probably due to the extreme age of the graphics card [a gtx 295] and my current lack of canned air.) and we seem to have turned this into IT thread, well they do work magic so it is appropriate. :rofl:

Corrupt Volume is pretty much a malfunctioning HDD/corrupt OS. Unless you're a/ know a technomancer, the only solution I can offer you is plug the drive into another system, salvage the most vitally important files (prioritize) and reinstall. Also, since it seems to be a corrupted boot problem, you might want to try with a boot recovery program.

Unless you're a/ know a technomancer, the only solution I can offer you is plug the drive into another system, salvage the most vitally important files (prioritize) and reinstall. Also, since it seems to be a corrupted boot problem, you might want to try with a boot recovery program.

the thing I really want to be able to do now really is to "reinstall" windows ... without purging the rest of my bloody drive :rofl:
I'm pretty much currently looking into boot recovery programs as my last resort really, before having rely on more physical solutions (like externally reading my internal drive and similar cash-drains. i just wanna bloody watch my Working!! stash, not rebuild my desktop from ground up :rofl: )

and yeah, I realized I've essentially made this into a tech support forum. While I'm sure darkgamma's gods would be pleased, I get the feeling the more immediate paradox forum demi-gods (aka the mods ) aren't :rofl:
(then again, the LI thread is a quasi-religious thread anyway, so... fair is fair? xD )

This is the quasi-religious thread of thechmagic completely on topic, we are talking about what happens many centuries into the future of this alternate timeline and its development of technology.

OK, so here's Erebos 0.1.1a! It includes the basic de facto history (so no counts) and it includes the bloodcounting system, something which may not be exciting, but is something very much crucial for the further development of the mod, as all of the blood mechanics rely on it.

Feature list (0.1.1a):

• Fully reworked deiure and defacto setup of the world
• System of blood colour traits, every one of them with icons
• A complex blood colour inheritance system which takes into account both parents at the same time
• A set of events that calculates blood amount in characters and their regeneration rate based off sound and very correct, if a bit speculative, medicine and biochemistry
• A set of events that decreases blood amount by a specific amount (so far, in 100ml steps from zero to ten litres, though also with smaller units on the lower end)

(the last few might not look interesting, but they're the absolute basics of any and all magic I plan on making)

If anyone spots any bug, do alert me; I hate bugs. Butterflies are good, though.

Removing the hidden .svn folder will reduce your release archive to under 21mb by the way.

Ack, that's why one should never let underling zip releases!
I never had an actual glimpse into the innards of the file, though, but good to know what the bloat is about.

They're quite nice, I'll say!
I'd rather not change the current ones, though, as these are quite shiny and crystalloid while I tried to make the game icons appear more like actual proper blood :S
Though, I do quite like and might just as well use this design down the line somewhen :happy:

Well, not everyone is, mind you!
We shut some/most off for the time being, as we'll be integrating Cybrxkhan's brilliant portrait overhauls in the near future. We decided it's best to use vanilla portraits rather than the DLC ones before the mod's part of Erebos.
