I just had the most amazing session ever.
King Achille Herrick the Bold of Daggerfall and Camlorn dies, leaving the realm to his grandson Theodynak, as his son and heir Lewin had died a few years prior of an unfortunate illness. The lords of Daggerfall did not think this just, as this meant two of Achille's sons were passed over for succession. These sons, Prince Martel and Prince Perien, quickly gathered a loyal following amongst King Theodynak's vassals, and before long, they had enough to demand the abdication of Theodynak. Of course, their demand was refused, so Prince Martel's faction (a small one) rose in rebellion to put him on the throne of Camlor. This pressured Theodynak, who was already embroiled in war against the duke of Camlorn, though did not spill over into the unmanageable. That happened when Prince Perien's faction, by far the largest, also declared their intention of putting the boy prince on the throne, though they wanted the throne of Daggerfall. Forced now to abdicate, with only his own holdings left, King Theodynak abdicated the throne of Daggerfall to Prince Perien, not wishing to give Prince Martel the Kingdom of Camlor and then still be embroiled in a crippling civil war. He then managed to beat down Prince Martel's claim on his only remaining crown by assassinating the leader of his faction.
Then, for a short number of years, peace reigned. Until Theodynak's half-brother, Lewin's second son, Edworyan the Wicked, Duke of Anticlere, rose in rebellion against the boy-king Perien I, determined to win the throne of Daggerfall through the claim he had inherited from his father. Both claimants to Daggerfall requested Theodynak's assistance in the war. Knowing that he was Perien's, but not Edworyan's, rightful heir, Theodynak chose to answer Perien's call, determined to regain Daggerfall through any means necessary; even if it meant assassinating his close kin after warring together. Unfortunately, Theodynak died in battle, transferring his Kingship to Edworyan, who still fought for Daggerfall. After years of bloody battle, Edworyan finally managed to gain both crowns, however the conflict was far from over. Prince Martel once again rose to prominence and announced war against King Edworyan, this time calling in a powerful ally that Edworyan could not hope to match. In desperation, the King was forced to destroy the title of Daggerfall, effectively nullifying Martel's claim, whereafter Martel was imprisoned and hastily put into the darkest dungeon in what was now the Kingdom of Camlor.
Just a fun story from my very first game in the mod to illustrate the incredible immersion of this mod. I realize that this most likely could have happened in vanilla as well, but the small things that have been thought of in this mod, like retinues with mages, the cultural diversity and how they are each individually represented, really drive it home.
