Any theories as to why AOD slows down with the map fewer provinces.

If there are no other DB file changes (or issues introduced by the map change that could result in more frequent or sub-optimal calculation of various game mechanics), then I would suggest to check the number of land provinces connections (these matter more than the actual number of provinces as more connections mean more possible routes from province A to province B). Too many connections are also bad for game-play experience (harder for the player and for the AI). For DH map we tried to have number of connections for land provinces to be less than 5-6 and this solved a lot of issues we had in the pre-release version of DH.

Thanks for the reply. No DB changes I know of. I did consider the connections issue. Yes there a lot of provinces with more than six connections but less than in the older E3 version. The only idea I have is that are a tiny bit more 6+ connections as a percentage of the overall number of provinces. But a really small difference. I find that really odd. Especially since there is such a marked speed improvement in DH.

I don't know of any older version. No I tested it with my version with topographic look, where layer 1 also has 241MB and that runs faster than the new version with 1162 fewer provinces, no topographic look and a mere 47MB layer 1. Strange No? It must have to do with AOD's supply calculations, maybe some path has become more complicated to calculate. But I have no idea what it could be.

Noticed an error, and if I'm looking at it correctly it carried over from the original E3 map. Lelystad in Netherlands is marked as an Ocean province instead of land.

I found an oddity regarding a Canadian province. For some reason, Fort Reliance (4020) covers most of Baker lake (4021). And by that I mean that, unless you click on the easternmost section of Baker lake (the land province), you will select Fort Reliance instead.

Well I was banned for 18 months. But we are not allowed to talk about that, so please do not, or the darkside will just ban me again.

I have the ai files to do, no small job, but doable. I have been working on the dh 1936 scenario only.
So i'll contniue with that starting right now. Unfortunately I am not a programmer, so I am doing it manually. But on the other hand, it may be better to do it manually, as there are too often oddities which require specific attention.

Great that you are still working on the map, as it should be a "classic".

Sorry if I sold ill-informed, but what exactly is this you guys are working on? Is the final product going to be basically vanilla DH except with more provinces (not that that would be bad in any way), or is your plan something else?

Just an update:

I think the best way to explain where I am is, if you go into the Darkest Hour Full folder, see all those event folders?
1914, 1914_AI, AI, China, Japan and all those events?
Well I am almost finished porting these events to the new E3-FN map. I thought I had it all done, but on closer examination, I had more still to do.

The final step will be porting all the AI files and the switch folder files. THEN the game will have to be play-tested as with many more provinces, events that change multiple provinces will need to be checked and adjusted for the new map.

After that Darkest Hour will work in the new E3-FN map.

It has been worthwhile doing it all manually, as I had not realised that all the dh events had been upgraded to a new style of "event writing". You would benefit from looking at how these new events have been coded. I mean go look at the normal dh full events and see for yourself

Do you have an estimate, when the new version will be posted?

I think this will be great base mod for all moders who want to switch to a bigger map.

It is hard to judge. There are roughly 300 ai files and about the same ai/switch files. Most will be just a couple of lines, while others like ENG will be huge. All I can say is that I'm doing a few hours a week. Today is Feb 25th. I would guess about another 4 weeks?
