[MOD] Darkest Hour for HOI4

While we have a full year to continue modding Darkest Hour, we can still begin to think and plan ahead...

IF hoi4 is going to be wishy-washy, judging from a quick read of the announcement "blurb", when compared to the magnificent detail and painstaking research within Darkest Hour... Should we be starting to think of bringing Darkest Hour into HOI4, as a mod, so this great game can continue on?

So, DH becomes a mod.

The HOI4-DH mod, using as much of the content from DH as possible, and endeavoring to keep as much to the original DH as possible? But of course, with the addition of whatever hoi4 brings us.

Of course, this should also open the door for other DH mods to be also ported to HOi4?

I've been way too busy lately and haven't been keeping up with the HOI3 forum at all, but today I had a look and noticed an early effort to port DH-Kaiserreich to Hoi3. The guy got as far as starting to port the map and that was that. But, he had lots of other stuff done and it looked good. He then got caught up in helping with EvW.

SO, it can be done. Yeah it is hoi3, but I don't think (?) hoi4 will be that different (under-the-hood)? Certainly there is enough there to try to fathom what is what and how to proceed.

So what is my intention?

It is very early days and no-one knows what HOI4 will contain. It will probably be months before any DD's come out, but that doesn't stop work from starting in porting DH to hoi3, in the expectation that there won't be too much extra work involved in bringing that Hoi3 port to Hoi4?

Every journey begins with the first step...

Let me get started and see how I get on, and I'll surely be calling for helping hands a little later.

Of course, it is unknown today, whether the DH devs or Paradox will allow a port of Darkest Hour to HOi3/4? This intention has only been announced and guys need time to think about it.

The actual port is some time off, as I am intending to help with the port of Kaiserreich to hoi3, and in doing so, learn the ropes of hoi3/hoi4 modding. But certainly within months, I intend to start work on the dh port.

I'm proceeding in the hope that it will be allowed. If not, I can port a dh mod instead.

I hope they do a Darkest Hour for HOI3. I can't stand the map of HOI2 but a lot of the features of Darkest Hours seems great. I really hope some of them make it into HOI4.

I had a look and noticed an early effort to port DH-Kaiserreich to Hoi3. The guy got as far as starting to port the map and that was that. But, he had lots of other stuff done and it looked good. He then got caught up in helping with EvW.

I should note that the port is pretty much done apart from events, some leaders/ministers and balance. I tried doing it myself but converting all those events manually is really not feasible.

I forgot to mention that I have already manually ported Hoi2 World in Flames and Hoi2 Modern Day Scenario to Darkest Hour.

I will of course be using regex, but if it takes manual graft to get the job done, it won't be a problem. I'm used to it!

Extended timeline? Well if the events etc are there, and hoi4 allows it, why not?

Well at the moment I'm helping with a cold war 1989 mod called Turning Point, I'm also helping with the RDD mod with moxs602. This mod will eventually go from 1039 to 2039, but the first scenario is from 1739 --. I mean for Darkest Hour.

I've also got novapaddysmds and homeland mods for darkest hour.

I think that other dh port to hoi3 was for Kaiserreich? I'm not doing Kaiser, as I've never been involved in it.

This is not Kaiserreich!

I pretty much did the same thing, and the response was that he is not working on it anymore since he has no time. I'd be willing to help you out if you were to try and complete the conversion. It was too much for me on my own, especially with all those events. I did have other people willing to help though, so we may be able to create some rag tag modding group.

I'd not put my hopes up for EvW finishing anytime soon, but he did give me his blessing to continue the conversion, and I did some work to it. EvW is going into an open beta type thing next month, so, you know.

Yeah, you get used to hard toil eventually... " I eat tedious tasks for breakfast" It is all a matter of the 2 hour stint / take a break.. gets the job done.

My first problem is dizzle3 used Microsoft Office, and I use OpenOffice, so opening up his files (those located on his thread) is a major drag. Very slow, and tends to lock up?

Looks like I'll have to buy microsoft office, hmm. Wonder where I can get that cheaply?

Well I cannot help you mod hoi3, since I'm only a day-one beginner myself. BUT, I suggest you try to mod Darkest Hour, much easier overall to do. And then, try to mod hoi3.

If you have your heart set on hoi3, then there should be some modding tutorials on the hoi3 forum?

I know there ARE modding tutorials on the dh forum.

I'm just trying to clear the decks a little today, to allow me to dive head first into this new venture. I'm doing OOb's for the Turning Point mod and I'm flying through them...
