Culture Specific Titles

(DISCONTINUED)

This is my first time modding a Paradox game, so I decided to start with the basics (Is there anything more basic than editing a few names with Excel? :rolleyes:)

Anyway, my objective with this mod is to change the vanilla titles with more "specific" ones, for examples, the King of France will be know as the Roi of France and the Kingdom of France will be know as Royaume de France. A simple translation actually. I will be changing every name that can be changed, from Kings to Mayors (Maybe even Court Jesters).

semttulokit.png

I will also accept suggestions for even more "specific" titles, for example, instead of simple changing the french heir (prince) to a french word we could be using the word Dauphin. But keep in mind that I will try to not hurt gameplay with extremely complicated and mostly unknown names.

This means that I will try to have three versions running, starting with the Translated Titles, soon followed by Only Translated Countries and then another one with Translated Countries and Titles.

semttulo2ngm.png

I started with France and will be expanding with the other Western Countries to them expand into the Eastern Countries. I will not be touching Muslim/Pagan titles unless there is a obvious replacement. Maybe when everything else is finished I might look more unto them.

And before anyone asks, yes, this mod should be compatible with every other mod and should work with every language (From English to German).

Also, I will be accepting requests, so if a certain mods adds a new Kingdom you can ask me to translate that Kingdom from that mod.

Translated FULL 1.9
This changes everything, Culture Name, Titles and Countries.
Translated Titles 1.9
This changes only the local titles. French King = French Roi.
Translated Countries 1.9
This changes only the countries. Ireland = Éire.
Translated Culture 1.9
This changes only the culture names. Portuguese = Português.
Template File
If you want to help and has the time for it, you could just fill up the file yourself and send me back. :D

Know Issues

  • As the titles are culture-dependent the Navarre and Naples Kings (in the Hundred Years War start) also get the french titles. You may want to see it not as a bug but as a feature. :cool:
  • I am yet to find a way to change the Bishop names.
  • In many occasions you will use the same titles of your liege's culture, for example: Dutch will use German Titles until they are granted independence.

Haha, I started work on this as well. Good luck. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions people, any help is appreciated. :)

I updated the mod with Spanish Titles and will begun to work on the Italian and Dutch ones.
Once I got the "template" done, adding different translations to different cultures is extremely easy with Excel, so expect frequent updates.

I love the idea, but it just doesn't feel right. How about this: "Duc de Bretagne, Jean III(sobriquet)". Much more authentic, imo.

I (as a basic modder) don't know how to change how the names are exhibited, I can only change the names themselves. (So it still would be "Duc Jean III of Bretagne | Duc de Bretagne")

Also, I updated the mod with Portuguese, Dutch and Italian titles, enjoy.
If there is any Italian-Speaker reading this, what would be the best translation for "Lord Mayor"? I'm using the literal "Signore-Sindaco" but it doesn't fell right to me.

What sounds better? Gaeilge Culture or hÉireann Culture? (For Irish Culture)

I also started to do this to some extent.
Not sure how accurate these are but:

Saxon Duke --> Duce
Saxon Baron --> Thane/Thegn
Scottish Count --> Thane
German Baron --> Freiherr
German Baroness --> Freifrau

'Konge Svend' of Denmark will look silly though :/

As will 'Kong of Denmark'

... I think I prefer it in English somehow, game obviously can't handle grammar.

If I could choose between the two, it would be 'Gaelige'.

However, if I may make a suggestion?

Though I don't know a whole lot about my own culture, I would recommend using a description along the lines of 'Goidelic Culture' or 'Gaelic Culture'.

If faction specific titles can also be set (I think they can in other Clausewitz engine games...), then the papal ones should be in Latin.
