Too early for the great helms. Would be perfect to have them unlocked after 1200.
...and get rid from the bascinets came after 1330.

You can use the small (extra) submod I made that does pretty much that: here

Guys, currently I'm planning to play with the Magyars, but I want to convert them to sunni. But if I convert, they'll look like christians. Is it possible to turn off the christian appearance and stay the original tengri appearance? :)
Go to your CPRplus or HIP folder\common\graphicalcultureyptes\CPR_graphicalculturetypes.txt, and remove the line "christian_portraits = yes" under "hungariangfx".

That should in theory prevent the Hungarian portraits from switching. If it doesn't, you will also have to delete all entries that end with ". . . _christian", ". . . _christian_1", and ". . . christian_2" (should be 6 of them in total, 3 male and 3 female) in interface\portraits\portraits_hungarian.gfx. Open the file with a text editor.

Since rulers wearing turbans is more of a Muslim thing, is it possible to make it where west African kings that have converted to Christianity maintain their leopard skin crowns?

Not unless you go on full-modding mode, no. Since the game can only differentiate non-pagan portrait vs. pagan portrait, you will have to make modifications with some design choices involving graphic asset and portrait code.

Also, "rulers wearing turbans" is not entirely a Muslim thing as far as I'm aware.

Do I need Jade Dragon DLC to run CPR+ ?
I got all other DLCs but it seems CPR+ doesn't work, the portraits still look like vanilla!?

Currently, CPRplus requires ALL portrait pack DLCs and ALL DLCs that include portrait assets.

So yes.

Might be a bug, might be WAD, but I just updated to Hydra3 from Hades7, and noticed that in 1066, Island of Åland is no longer under Erik the Heathen but independent. Is that WAD?

Also another WAD / Bug, de jure duchy setup in Hungary, Ungvar and Ujavar ... a bit weird, but again might be WAD...
Hmm... but how is this related to CPRplus? This thread here is about the module for character portraits.
You might want to post in the appropriate thread so this gets seen by the proper people ;)

Just wanted to give my opinion. I finally gathered every graphical dlc so I could install CPRplus and... while headgears and armors are amazing, in 5 minutes of testing every culture in the ruler designer with young preset and random faces, I could find exactly one female I'd consider marrying. They are hideous (compared to vanilla).

Thank you for trying out CPRplus! That said, I'm afraid I can't do much without specific feedback here (and I'm not the artist, so even more so).

Indeed?!
Well, I guess taste differs. My experience has been the exact opposite: I can barely play vanilla anymore, because I find the females so ugly.
Just take the "double chin" look: It appears in vanilla all the time, but not in CPRplus. The only beautiful females in vanilla are the most recent Crackd portraits, the rest is bad.

Maybe you could post some screenshots of the worst offenders, as I can honestly not imagine what you mean.

Hello, yea I will post some screenshots bit later. Here are some things out of my memory:
- Cultures (and their faces) are very mixed between themselves, I mean the creator took some face parts from all DLC archives and mixed them between group. In that way, it's difficult to decipher which "race" someone is.
- Because body parts of face are mixed, it paradoxically creates less (at least european) variants of faces, because their distinctive features are mixed enough, that distinctivness is less, so one may think or feel that there are way less faces to randomize from.
- And because of that, maybe just due to less choice, there are far less pretty faces to pick from.
- Look at the skin of the characters. If first model is used between 14 and 30 years of age, then why is it so heavily biased towards age 29.999? It's like faces were intentionally picked to look that "old". If you don't look at actors, but real people in the buses and what not, there is bigger difference between people of age 18 and 29 than between ages 30 and 55. So: all females look 29-ish even at 16. It needs some average towards youth, let's say the group 14-29 should bias more towards age 22 than 30.

So yes, in retrospection, no face looks really young and vibrant, and in the vanilla + DLC's many, many more do. Neotheny is severely lacking.

EDIT: I just looked at the example image in the first post. Just looking at the noses I can see that either it was a lazy example, or amount of noses to pick from was severely reduced. It's possible creator reduced the parts to pick from to fulfill his vision, but at the same time reducing the genetic variety.

I noticed you described ugliness of some vanilla portraits. From my experience bretons, russians and nords (female) were really badly done, but default portrait, english and german/frankish seem really good and more "pretty" and young on average. The worst offenders were always turkish portraits. Baltic and Cuman portraits were really bland, because they seem rushed.

Ah, I see.
Now I understand what you mean - basically, in the mod you get the impression that some young people have more "wrinkles" than in vanilla.
This is, I believe, indeed a result of the mix&match process, because the different portrait pack assets do not line up perfectly and several had to be rescaled, recolored etc.
I don't think there is a way to 100% remove this effect, because there's no way the mod authors can redo every single asset to work with every ethnicity seamlessly.
However, you could point out ethnicities which suffer from it most - for example, I suggested something along this lines for Indian females a while ago, because they had very wrinkly cheeks (which have since been smoothed). So yeah if you have specific suggestions, name them + screenshots.
But a general "everyone looks ugly" statement is not so helpful because it isn't possible to edit everything at the same time ;)

I thought you are the creator all allong, But well, yes, I agree. I think the devs of this particular module have some philosphy in mind and it's difficult to argue without knowing what they personally like and want. For now, I guess the pros of having cute clothing don't win over cons of having ugly potential wifes, so I will resort to playing without this submod.
