Patch 1.17.1-f2 will be out tomorrow. If you don’t use mods, then enjoy the new content!

Patch notes

If you do play modded, you will be greeted with a notification when you start the game alerting you that some mods you are subscribed to haven't been created for the current version of the game. Opening the Content Manager will show you which mods were not made for the current version of the game, however, this does not mean the mod is broken. The notification is there to help troubleshoot but to determine which mods are known to be broken and which have been fixed, please see the list on the spreadsheet which can be accessed by clicking List Incompatible Mods.

Modders have been hard at work preparing updates, so please be patient while they apply those to the Workshop and sort out any issues that may not have been found in testing. Check the spreadsheet regularly to see which mods are still needing an update.

If you play with a lot of mods

  • Check the list of broken mods below
  • Don’t overwrite - save your city as a new savegame
  • Wait for mods to update - or help see what mods need an update.
  • Play unmodded while you wait using the -noWorkshop launch option

Will I be able to continue my existing city?

Most likely yes, but it might be a few days depending on what mods you use. Some mods are required for a save to load correctly, and if they need an update, you will have to wait for them before loading your city.

Will ‘insert mod’ be updated?

Most likely yes! Our awesome modding community is working hard to find issues and update mods, but it’s important to remember, they do this as a hobby so it may take a little while. Some updated mods may be released as new mods, in which case make sure to unsubscribe from the old version. Below are some mods expected not to be updated and their replacements. It’s recommended that you switch these as soon as possible, also before the patch goes live.

Which mods are broken?

For the most up-to-date information on which mods are broken, check out the community-maintained spreadsheet:

Broken mods

Which mods do I absolutely need to load my city?

This is not a complete list, but can hopefully give you some idea of what mods to keep an eye on before loading your city.

Network mods
These include any mods that add networks. Anything in the Roads category on Steam is not counted, only those in the Mod category.
  • Extra Train Station Tracks
  • German Roads
  • Metro Overhaul Mod
  • More Train Tracks
  • Network Extensions 2
  • One Way Train Tracks
  • Tram Station Track

Major mods
Mods that have a large impact on how the game works are generally needed for your city to work as it should. These include, but are not limited to:
  • 81 tiles
  • Any Road Outside Connections
  • Custom Zone Mixer
  • Improved Lane Connections v2
  • Lifecycle Rebalanced Revisited
  • More CitizenUnits
  • More PathUnits
  • More Vehicles
  • Nursing Homes with Eldercare
  • Optimised Outside Connections
  • Ploppable RICO
  • Realistic Population (or other mods that affect population numbers)
  • Reversible Tram AI [BETA]
  • Traffic Manager: President Edition
  • Transfer Controller
  • Transfer Manager CE
  • Transport Line Manager

How do I play unmodded temporarily?

While you can’t play your modded city, why not check out the new content without mods? You can easily do this by adding the -noWorkshop launch option to Steam. To do this right-click on the game in your Library, select Properties, and type in -noWorkshop (exactly like that) in the box at the bottom, and close the window to apply. This disables all workshop content.

Just make sure to start a new city and save it as a new file, so you don’t overwrite your existing city.

Hallo people at Paradox,

Epic was my vendor. Maybe I'm the only one who uses his Steam access to get mods from the workshop by download and adding in the appdata folder. But I do not think so.

And of course my first post in your forum is grumbling.

I am a casual gamer and use 90% of the mods listed above. But the updates also make me a casual gamer. With each update, a lot of work has to be put into the game to keep building at the usual level.

Now ... I don't know what difficulties you have with Epic, I do know that Steam has a ... let's say ... shameful policy regarding user content, considering it as its property. Which is, of course, garbage.

What workaround do you suggest?
Will you take Epic as a seller for CS2 as well? I am not willing anymore to support Steam and its policies and support.
How should this go on then? Update, two hours of work so Epic customers can play with mods? Twice in 30 days ...

So that you understand my frustration: After a long break I had time to build a new city. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SO FAR.

And you guys are releasing 1.17.0-F3

Frustrated greetings

What has this to do with the topic of this thread?

Modding is not supported for the Epic version of the game as Epic does not have a similar service to the Steam Workshop. As you have discovered, that doesn't mean it's impossible to mod the game, but it does mean that you need to update your mods manually. When you mod the game, you are installing 3rd party modifications to the game, which reference the game code. When we update the game, the code a mod references may have changed, resulting in the mod needing an update. While not the fun part of modding, it is, unfortunately, a part of it.

We work with the modding community providing early access to a lot of the modders allowing them to prepare updates for their mods, and I share this compatibility thread each patch to help everyone who mods easily access the information they need to get their mods up to date. But there is some troubleshooting involved in modding your game, which we try to be as upfront about as possible so you can make an informed decision about whether that's for you or not. If your game time is limited for example, it may be worth significantly limiting your use of mods and sticking to mods that can be disabled at any time without negatively affecting the save.

As for modding Cities: Skylines II that is a topic for another time, but I can share that the PC version of the game is confirmed to release on Steam.

Excellent! Thanks for the information regarding mods, which I use but I start a new game and that is good advise. CS UI is pretty good at providing link to compatibility list (very useful), thanks to the good people who put that all together. Glad I keep my mod list to a minimum, easier to manage.

Update - Edit:
In just a few days I notice all the mods I use are working fine (approximately 30), most of them are listed in OP (first post). Game is running stable.

Original post updated for patch 1.17.1-f2

Why was the Hotels and Retreats section was completely replaced by the patch 1.17.1 section? My modlist was last updated for Financial Districts, and now I could not see which mods got broke on the last 2 previous updates (Hubs and Transport, Hotels and Retreats), meanwhile my game is giving errors on three mods from EML, Prop Anarchy, and Tree Anarchy (and there could be more, but again, I could not see the list of broken mods from those updates because it was removed).

Mods broken more than one patch are moved to the main list of broken mods. If you've been away from the game for more than one patch, always check both the broken list and the one specific to the latest patch.
