By the way, I must say I don't really like Arthur, the character from the books. I don't understand how he could become such a respected leader. He does seem an idiot in many of his decisions. I haven't finished the saga yet, though.
First: may I ask what you consider to be conventional Arthurian story? Naturally, e.g. Chretien de Troyes wrote of Arthur like of Christian king – but that was by value of what I'd call medieval political usability and correctness. But from what I know, earlier versions were often quite pagan - and modern retellings, e.g. Warlock Chronicles, Mists of Avalon, etc. and some other modern retellings are much more ambigouos as to religion of Arthur.Well, I'd never read a version they had him at anything as Christian (Or without a named religion but very much Christian in portrayal.) His not a zealous convertor of people, but pretty much always fairly clearly christian. There a few I guess where you could interpret him as being still following the old gods but its certainly not the "conventional" Arthurian story the majority are familiar with. Even then, his still portrayed as fairly christian and my interepretation of those pieces are generally that his added "god" to the pantheon rather then straight swapped (which I believe was a fairly common progression during conversions from multi-god faiths to single.)
Is there any idea for when this will be updated for 1.102?
Look forward to it.The latest version should work with 1.102. At least it works for me. Is anyone else having problems?
I apologize for my recent lack of updates and replies but as I forewarned a couple of weeks ago I am currently very busy with my job. I am looking forward to release the next update soon, it will contain a lot of fixes and improvements (especially for Soissons and the Franks) and a whole new set of duchies and titles all over Gaul/Europe, but I won't be able to get back to the mod for a few more days (up to another couple of weeks).
Thanks Ols, DC, Hiyo and all of you who are replying to questions and giving support to new players while I'm temporarily off duty!
P.S. I just noticed that 1.102 screwed all dynastic CoAs up... I hope to be able to fix this soon... if anyone has already an idea about how to do it, please let me know!
There was another mod with a more traditional take on Arthur that I helped out with, but its been dead for awhile (Look for 'Matter of Britain' of you're curious).De Troyes was what I was read and then read myself as a child. I think most of what I've read are adaptations of that version, and then, everything I've seen on TV has always had him as either explicitly Christian or very Christian in nature and imagery (Crosses, Knights in Shining Armour etc). I'm English, so its likely why, the more Pagan old texts are generally those whom have him as Welsh or Scots and so probably don't get picked up by English TV producers. Excalibur (1981) was a pretty big worldwide film, thats a Christian Arthur. Even the rather off beat King Arthur (2004) which again had a massive audience has him has a Christian. First Knight (1995) was a fairly big film too and although I can't remember if his explicitly Christian iirc his portrayed very much as a Christian king.
Essentially, I generally think of these things with Arthur. Excalibur, Merlin, The Holy Grail, Lady of the Lake, Queen Guenevere and her betrayal with Lancelot. Killed/Put out of action by Modred before being laid to rest on lake Avalon or taken to the isle at its centre.
As I said early, its not a big problem and certainly since it is based on those books makes total sense. He shouldn't be Christian for sure.
However, if you was putting the Christian switch there just for people like me that wanna play the Christian Arthur it would be nice if it didn't have the 150 piety cost XD. Piety is kinda hard to get right at the start I found. I'm actually having fun playing as Pagan Arthur (I was going to switch but I picked up Zealous, and even if i lose it my religion switch is to roman now anyway for some reason). I don't think religion is a big issue during the time frame you are playing as him, the lower tax is a bit of hurt but since he has ridiculous relation mods you can smack on pretty high taxes so that it matter little.
Plus it means once Arthur kicks the Saxons out, Arthur II can become the religious reformer XD
And hi Luca. Your mod is awesome XD. I'm on the latest patch and I haven't noticed any problems at all. Also, you sure its a patch issue and not the new DLC for dynasty shields. I know those DLCs often cause problem with existing CoAs and there was a new one out recently.
Well thats seems like a pretty legitimate reason xD(there are a couple things I want to fact check first - I would have sent it earlier in honor of the Celtic DLCs, but my house flooded)
It would deserve it.Also wondering whether at version 1.00, it'll be stickied![]()
Started reading the Winter King for this. Good work!
This mod is probably one of the most underestimated/under-appreciated of the major mods out there, considering it's quality compared to the actual discussion/mentions the mod gets. I put the mod in my sig for that reason, but I don't know how many people notice. I'd really be happy if it was stickied, and to be honest if somebody started plugging it outside of these forums it'd make things even better. The GoT mod has got a huge amount of (deserved) attention on other sites, but I think other mods could be used to showcase different things CKII could do. Someone should appoint themselves as a PR assistant and go bombard everyone with praise for this mod.
At the next patch release I could start a habit of creating a UK mirror for it, if people want. Somebody else would have to set up one in the Americas and/or elsewhere though.
