I want to put in my own character as lord of stoke hill, but I don't want to fuck up the lore, I was thinking I would make Lord Maric (the current lord of Stoke Hill) the lord of Dartmoor, throwing out Lord Brochvael on his arse, then put in my character. Would this be lore friendly? I mean, is Brochvael essential, or is Maric really supposed to be the lord of Stoke?

Maric is a character invented by me. There is no reference to him in the books or in history. Feel absolutely free to take him out, there will be no consequences and you don't risk fucking up the lore. However, I suggest you wait a few hours before starting a new game since I'm going to release a small but quite important patch.

Well, I should give my impressions on the mod:

It's great! But there are several things that can be changed:

I'm definetly sure Tewdric should be younger at the start, maybe in his fourties.
Norwenna seems to marry both Uther and Arthur, often. Her marriage to one of them was actually discussed in the book, but it's kinda silly that she does both of them - it's like she is doing the whole Pendragon family.
Morgan needs the "ugly" trait, I think. Scarred isn't cutting it.
Arthur's bastard twins are missing.
I think it'd be good idea for a mercenary company that can be raised in Durnovia (kind of like Varangian guard) named "Wolftails", headed by Derfel.

Thanks for the suggestions Beladriel! Glad to know some fans of the books are enjoying the mod! Let's see...

You're probably right. It's 50 now at game start, I can take a few years away from him. His son is 15 after all...

Norwenna seems to marry both Uther and Arthur, often. Her marriage to one of them was actually discussed in the book, but it's kinda silly that she does both of them - it's like she is doing the whole Pendragon family.
True, but already fixed in last version. She has the 'celibate' trait now. She will not marry at all, but it's better than having her marry Uther and Arthur every single time.

Morgan needs the "ugly" trait, I think. Scarred isn't cutting it.
True. Done. Will be in next patch. I'd really love to have a custom golden mask in her portrait but I've got more important features to take care of!

Arthur's bastard twins are missing.
True. Added them. Will be in next patch.

I think it'd be good idea for a mercenary company that can be raised in Durnovia (kind of like Varangian guard) named "Wolftails", headed by Derfel.
They already exist! Look up for 'Wolftails' in the title finder. They're not led by Derfel because at game start he's very young, so I decided to place him at Avalon as Merlin's court. I could implement an event to check how he's doing a few years later, and if he's fine and unlanded he could get the command of the Wolftails...

Keep it coming,

L.

I disagree with giving Morgan the 'ugly' trait, as I highly doubt that the scars would be hereditary; I think a Burnt trait would serve better with -% fertility and -opinion with characters of the other sex.

Need any help with anything?

Thanks! Well, honestly I could use some help with so many things that you could just pick something you'd like to do. Did any modding before?

P.S. About playing as lord of Stoke Hill... you must like starting small! It's probably the less 'powerful' landed character on the map, no vassals, no family, no money!

Good point. However she also has the 'celibate' trait so she'll never transmit hereditary traits. I decided to make her celibate because it fits the character, she eventually gets married in the books with bishop Sansum but their relationship is described as 'platonic'. Also, in the game, since she's a first-born princess of Dumnonia (even if bastard), everybody wants to marry her, and she gets usually married to some powerful ruler. That doesn't fit the book character at all.

A. I can do just about everything, though I haven't much experience with events, but I've done a few.
B. My family is from the region, in vanilla I start as Devon each time. And ja, I enjoy just having the one castle and working up.

Here you go...

The Winter King - Patch 0.7 to 0.7b (680 kb) (Oct 29th)

Updated download links for the new full and lite versions will be up shortly. Meanwhile you can update by downloading this small (680 kb) patch: unzip it in the mod folder and overwrite all files.

Changes from 0.7 to 0.7b:

- Fixed an issue with succession laws
- Fixed an issue with titles creation that prevented some titles from being created
- Fixed an issue with static opinion modifiers (all relations were previously better than normal)
- Added a few historical characters
- Other minor fixes and tweaks

I should point out that #3 is a particularly important change: until now all opinions had the character diplomacy value added (so if you had diplomacy 16, all other characters would like you +16 than normal). This made sense at first, but it actually made relations too good. Also, the sum of the various opinion modifiers didn't add up (hope this sentence makes sense), because this static diplomacy modifier was not shown. So you could have like: Liege is Brave +10, Short Reign -5... total +23. Things like that.

Now that I removed this static diplomacy modifier, things have become a lot more interesting. Forget about starting with all vassals liking you 100+ (as it was the case with Syagrius or Uther).

Please keep the feedback coming! Looking forward to know if the patch solves the elective laws bug in the Imperium Galliarum.

Thanks,

L.

Okay, I just played about a hundred years as the Aegidii and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. This mod has a completely different flavor from most I've tried, but it still has a unique historical flavor.

My only complaint is that there isn't much to do after forming the Imperium Galliarum, which works fine now by the way. I annexed Kent and the Belgae territories, but had to parcel them out province by province because there weren't any higher titles to aspire towards. Even if it were a matter of having a few titular titles centered around major locations, that would help give the post-Syagrius game some longevity.

Also, you can form the Kingdom of the Franks as Syagrius, but it immediately crashes the game with a runtime error, so there's that. I won't let this post turn into a bug hunt, though. Great mod!

Well, as the bug is already fixed I wont post the save. I'll keep it in case its needed again though. Has anyone played a game yet where Mercia has successfully broken off from Anglia? I still saw Anglia blob up into a Mercia/Anglia kingdom. Also, I noticed that the AI doesn't take Glevum from Gwent very quickly at all, which means that Hwicce rarely seems to form. Will there be any changes to that or will Anglia just attack around Gwent's capital?

Well, since the name is Imperium Galliarum, there should be conquest CBs for England so that the Romano-Celts will have BOTH Gauls.
Of course the Imperium Galliarum is weaker than a united Aenglaland (Or a huge enough Britannia) so it could be a challenge.

P.S. I don't know if this is already in the mod, might as well be.

EDIT: I don't mean whole Aenglaland. The Standard conquest CB plus some flavour if possible.

Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely plan to add more creatable titles in Britain for the romans, and to add proper CBs for the reconquest of Britain, especially against the saxons. For now, I can suggest this: if you play as the Imperium Galliarum never convert to christianity. Here's why.

If you are en emperor/high king (or the King of Soissons) and have sufficient prestige and skills (it should be 2500 prestige, skilled or brilliant strategist, 16 martial, 14 diplomacy, and no bad traits like slow, weak, imbecile, etc.) you will get an 'Invasion' CB against all other independent realms that do have different culture AND different religion. An icon will appear in the character screen, just under the traits, when you meet these requirements, so you'll know when to look for new available CBs.

If you stick to roman pagan, sooner or later you'll have a skilled enough emperor... and since almost every realm on the map will be different culture and different religion, you can really start conquering...

L.

P.S. I'm looking into the CTD bug when romans get the Franks kingdom title, I can't resist a bug hunt! ...thanks for the report!

There are no limitations to the conquest of Glevum UNLESS it's become a 1-province kingdom. The county conquest CB can not be used any longer against the last province of a kingdom-level realm, unless the local king is very unprestigious (prestige less than 300). So if you're looking to get the last province of a kingdom, you should aim at removing the local king... maybe his sons will be still babies with no prestige, and you will be able to conquest them and kiss their kingdom goodbye.

Regarding Mercia, in my last observed game it was the largest realm on the map in 700, independent from Anglia. It may take some time before it rises up, but if the new duchies are created (Pegansaete, Hwicce, Magonsaete) then Mercia will show up sooner or later. It almost always do.

P.S. Just ran another game in observe mode... Glevum conquered by Anglia in 497, Hwicce created in 499, Mercia created in 526. That was quicker than usual. I am confident that what you observed was just an uncommon situation.

View attachment 66560

Look at the screenshot above to see how the map was in 607 AD... 4 out of 5 anglosaxon kingdoms are there. No luck for West Seaxe in this game (yet) since Dumnonia is doing quite well.

Ah, alright. I'm going to try a game as Gwynedd now and try to take over all of Wales while allowing the Anglo-Saxons free reign in England. I'll see what kingdoms form then.
