Making bulgarians steppe faced is really a gross twist of their origins. They definitely originated from the bolghars, and were thus of the steppe, but they mixed with the local slavic culture. Bulgarians with asian faces is as justified as hungarians with asian faces. It might even make sense for the old gods scenario, but not later on.

And BTW, at least for the SWMH version, the finno-ugric/baltic names are screwed up. Have literally gold coins in their names and the like. I'd recommend just replacing those with current SWMH ones.

I still like breaking up the slavic looks. The Bulgarians are most prominent in the Old Gods start before getting conquered so I focussed more on that. I'll switch over the hair, beard and clothing styles to get them to fit in better, that does make sense.
Make sure to use the 25-2 update for the text issue. Hopefully the utf tool Finarfin linked last page can fix leftover names in your save file.

I would concede to the bulgarians looking most prominent in old gods, but perhaps they could have a seperate culture later on. The same could be done with Hungarians perhaps. Both were foreigners in europe, and very unlikely to be white to say the least. More Hungarians than Bulgarians even. I know you aren't the offical mod maker or anything but yeah. Personally I give the bulgarians southernslavic look regardless.

EDIT: Ah, you fixed the finnish stuff. Cool.

Possible bug, but I think the characters with the "ill" trait display some disease graphically, instead of the red nose and red circles under eyes?

I had to confess that when I added this mod in the middle of an existing game and all of a sudden the Bolghars I was playing suddenly looked like Mongols I was quite surprised. However, since I didn't really know what a Bolghar was, any way, it didn't bother me too much.

The bolghars can be "mongol", the bulgarians probably not.

Also, nevermind the "possible bug" but I noticed that the bandages of leper victims isn't the first layer on easternslavic characters. The hair and bear comes first, and the like. Easy fix, perhaps?

Some more portrait reshuffling I'm trying out and would like opinions on:
Lombard/north italtian portraits, based on occitans with italian clothes. Currently the lombard, arpitan, langobard and veneto areas.
Bulgarians based on georgian portraits to approximate an altaic-slavic mix.
Southslavic based on bohemians with greek clothing.
Westslavic based on the slavic faces, they're about identical to bohemians now. Add a pagan variant with baltic headgear?

Well I would have kept the italians as is, and thrown bulgarians into southslavic gfx (greek clothes could maybe work)

I'd support the idea of westslavic with slavic faces, and a pagan variant. But yeah, up to you how you want to do it. Keep up the good work anyways. :)

How could I remove those new "special effects" associated with traits and desease? No offense, but those are unbearably ugly, so much so that I believe that the vanilla portraits without those effects are much better looking than BLG portraits with those effects. :(

I like them, but I wish they would disappear upon death. What happens since so many people die of disease and other traits your family history starts looking like a bunch of marred individuals.

Since it's been announcement time lately I'll show a preview as well.
I've made some progress getting the parts of meditereanean faces adjusted to match up better.
The chins and lower cheeks were previously replaced by western parts but never gotten recoloured, leaving notable edges.
The disease effect cleanup on death suggestion has been implemented as well.
