Version 3 is up, now better looking than ever! :happy:

Berbers and the Levant redone! The two new cultures should display correctly without the mongol dlc.
Any feedback is appreciated!

two things i noticed:
- there are problems with ruler designer DLC created chars for your cultures - hairstyles and beards will be changed from DLC-preview to ingame view
- some properties of orthodox priests are misplaced

both not really important.

next version of adapted BLC version 3 for CK2+ 1.06 tested with patch 1.05e:

- new cultures of BLC3 integrated
- history files merged

edit: attachement removed. after wiz integrated this mod into ck2+ it is not longer necessary.

Thanks for that adaptation mate! Posted it in first post.

On randomization of characters and issue with ruler designer DLC: I noticed it first a while ago after integrating Peuri's mod.(not quite sure what happened or what is causing it but it wasn't present before -maybe it's an inherent issue with adding new cultures made of various parts?) After that it's been like that for some characters... I am unsure what causes it but some characters refuse to keep their assigned dna when it comes to hairstyle/facial hair...most noticeably Harold and William, the prince of Polotsk, sometimes the duke of Bohemia... it's a good thing there's only a few of the dna-ed characters that suffer from this and that the cultural rules assigned to portrait_properties can fix them so they don't end up looking quite that bad... I wish I knew what the problem was, but for now I'm just guessing.

I'm confused here -- which is the latest working version for vanilla? I don't play CK2+ and I have the Mongol Faces DLC.

Thanks, I'll check it out now. Prepare for yet more hotfixes though. ;)

Let's hope the mod doesn't need hotfixes... only improvements.:) Although I'd love to hotfix the randomization issue I was talking about earlier, if I could only figure out the issue. :( Ah, well, I guess perfection is an ever elusive goal. :rolleyes:

i´m afraid, the missing line culture = { } at the defines in portraits.gfx could be the reason. i guess, the numbers are corresponding with the content of graphicalculturetype.txt. i tried adding the original "cultures = { }"-lines to the gfx file and reorganizing the content of the typetxt-file and i noticed that the original cultures shows not such randomizing hairs and beards.
but i have no idea, what numbers are the correct for the new cultures... :wacko:

I've merged version 3 into Project Rodrigo. It looks very nice. Thanks for the permissions.

@mate0815

A while back I tried removing the entire facial hair section from portrait_properties and it seemed to stop the randomization, not sure if it does so in this current version. Of course removing that part is a big no-no as newly generated characters would not look properly...we'd have bearded normans on day 1 (the intrigue generated courtiers would look horrendous) and a majority of shaved byzantines in no time...

Also what I don't get is why particular dna-ed western characters get randomized on game start... William and Harold's haircuts for example. William gets a different haircut when you start the game, Harold becomes bald... I originally thought it could be an issue with 0s in their dna so I even copied dna that does not randomize over William's (used dna from a norman that does not randomize to fill slots) but William's haircut still got randomized.

Oh well, at least I can live with the overall end result looking miles better than vanilla in any case. :mad:

@RedRooster81

Glad you like it! It's by no means perfect, but sadly as it currently stands the one best way to improve it would be to split cultures and add in differences that way. (for examples add in Tuaregs as a new group etc) At this point in time I'm not thinking of doing that, although I might add new cultures in the future - maybe have a separate version that is not compatible with vanilla cultures.

I do appreciate it, Shaytana. I did not merge the history files, and most Normans and Saxons seem to have moutaches and not shaggy beards. It's good enough for me really. There are a few redheads commanding duchies in the Byzantine Empire, and there is an interesting looking Cuman tribal leader who has blondish Mongol hair. I think you've pushed vanilla gfx files about as far as they can go. I will experiment with Tuaregs and post the results. I think they'll just be Africans with Muslim clothing. Maybe the next big official free expansion will have a new portrait set to play with. :)

Version 3 has dna for the starting Saxons - I might have forgotten some Normans? not sure :laugh: - don't think so -(so with some exceptions where the dna gets randomized because it....wants to :confused: they should all look good). Generated Saxons favor moustaches via my instructions while Normans will try to be cleanshaven... they can of course gain hidden graphical cultures via their mothers, etc and then they might not look as they should, but if they don't they will. :)

On Byzantines... I am thinking of tweaking their hair colors for the next version, I'd like input on that one from everyone who has an opinion... I was actually thinking of removing the extreme blonde and extreme redhead colors for their graphics alltogether, so they can only be darker blondes and moderate redheads... although it has to be said there are enough historical examples of blonde Byzantine nobility and imperial figures. If you read Chronographia, you will notice for example Psellos saying Empress Zoe (char id 1717) had golden hair. The later Palaiologi emperors were quite blonde too... (and a touch of redheads uhoh)

Thanks for the awesome mod and for mate1085 for incorporating it into CK2+. Loving it!

Glad you enjoy it! I understand Wiz is going to implement version 3 soon into his mod, so that will probably result in even better bonding with CK2+.

Heh, those just makes me wish that the Byzantines got their awesome proper crowns instead of the HRE crowns they currently use for the emperor tier.

The Byzantines don't look "right" to me in many ways... I am even currently thinking that I should change their clothes. There are some clothes not used for the western culture set that would look good on them.

I think that's right. They look just like western Europeans, except that (in vanilla) they're restricted to dark hair. Otherwise they don't have a Mediterranean tan, they don't have ornate ceremonial regalia, and they don't have the right robes and the like. I think they're in need of a visual overhaul.

I would be willing to bet Paradox is going to give us an ERE DLC in the future... it's sorely needed and would please many many people if well done. Another thing they hopefully will do in a future patch is give us RGB color values for skintones to customize just like hair and eye color so we can edit cultures on the fly and have variation within a culture.

I've been porting the dna over to the latest paradox history files... It takes a while... hopefully will be done later today and I will post the updated version. I wish paradox just copied my dna over to their vanilla files. :cool:
