*Fast forward a generation John's son Ragnar is now Norse.*
Ragnar: "Now then boys lets go raid!!!"
*after 7 raids and not finding the staff*

Ever had that happen to you? Well I did and it wasn't fun, so heres a solution!

You can now target any landed character and try to steal one of their artifacts, this begins an event chain where you and an accomplice (if you want, but its highly recommended you choose one) will infiltrate the target's capital and attempt to steal an artifact. You will specifically target only one artifact and have to face 3 challenges of increasing difficulty. Good stats and powerful traits will greatly help, as well as being a member of specific societies depending on your route. Some routes may have very similar chances of success or failure, this is due to your character not having relavant skill levels or traits.

What this mod does:
  • Adds decisions to obtain artifacts from other characters.
  • Rebalances some vanilla artifacts
  • Adds a bunch of new artifacts
  • Adds new events and decisions related to new artifacts
  • Completely removes the chance of artifacts being lost on inheritance
  • Check the "Features List" in the discussion tab on the steam page for everything

    2. The Menorah: found in an event after allowing pilgrims for some time

    4. Himyarite Mask: spawns on new game, can also be used by Bedouin characters
    5. Priestly Breastplate: spawns on the Kohen Gadol after founding the priesthood, will give a debuff to any other Jewish character that owns it, the Kohen Gadol will ask for it after some time.
    6. Brass Snake: spawns on new game

Germanic:
  • Removed Andvaranaut, Mjolnir, and Gjallarhorn from vanilla rumor event. They now spawn on new games.
  • Andvaranaut now has an event based effect while it's equipped, will give money with a chance to get a random curse. If the character gets cursed enough, stuff happens.
  • A new decision and event chain related to when stuff happens for the Andvaranaut user.

  • New Artifacts:
    1. Gungnir: Recieved during battle, only for characters that have been saved by Odin at birth.
    2. Odin's Eye: reward from an event chain that can trigger for either the Fylkir, a mystic, or a character with high learning while religious authority is above 50.
    3. Gleipnir: shows up in an event after 100 years have passed
    4. Jarngreipr: spawns on new game
    5. Fafnir's Scale: recieved after slaying Fafnir
    6. Braggi's Harp: spawns on new game
    7. Brísingamen: spawns on new game
    8. Tarnkappe: spawns on new game
    9. Huginn's Feather: Appears after getting the Germanic Faith to 70% moral authority, 1 will be given to the discoverer of the event and 3 others will distributed to germanic rulers

#Changes
  • AI Counts added to stealing events. They can only steal if they either have 3 or more count level titles, or have a dynastic prestige of more than 300.
  • Characters can now imprison vassals that steal from them ( you might not get the notification but it still works )
  • When the AI succeeds in stealing from another character, that character will have 10 years of immunity from further AI attempts
  • Characters cannot steal from someone they have a non-aggression pact with
  • Added "Chance to be stolen = -100%" to artifacts that can't be stolen. (only for the ones listed as "special artifacts", this won't show up on books or other blocked artifacts)
  • Added tooltip info in main stealing events related to how each option scales, also removed the colored borders
  • If none of the HRE, Kingdom of Italy, or Empire of Italy exist then the Iron Crown of Lombardy will be given to the Pope. Whenever the Pope dies, an event will check if any of those titles exist and return it if they do. Also if it somehow ends up somewhere weird it'll go to the Pope.

Added "Holy Weapon" combat events, these will trigger if a character has a holy weapon equipped, is in battle, and fighting someone of a different religion. In exchange these artifacts have been nerfed stat wise.

  • The game will pick a random nearby ruler and choose one of his artifacts (same restrictions as players)

Added new option to the last failure event of the steal artifact decision that heavily depends on the character you're stealing from
New event for the Axe of Perun, whoever inherits the axe must prove they are worthy of keeping it. The event will choose the 4 strongest nearby slavic characters(player has priority, but only if close) and have them face off in a melee, the last man standing will face the inheritor. The stronger character will get the axe until it gets inherited again.
Added custom event to increase the chance the ai gets the vanilla artifact rumors event, to encourage more artifacts showing up over time.

A stand alone for just stealing would be great, gives players more options on how they want to play their game, plus you can also let other people know about the main mod. I dont like it were I see a great feature in my opinion held down by other added content that I won't want to use.

Unfortunately I cant make it standalone, i have to edit the vanilla artifact file to add proper flags to the artifacts. The game is quite screwy in deciding if an artifact is active or not so i had to make some workarounds. I could make the event seperate but it will still conflict with anything that touches the vanilla artifacts.

I will be making a ck2+ version since i use that mod a lot.

Aight I made a standalone version. Since I don't particularly care whether the artifact is active or not, I just removed that part, and the touching of the vanilla artifacts. Works fine with HIP and half a dozen other mods.

Thank you so much for making this mod, a lot of work went into this I can tell. It's definitely something I've wanted forever since taking artifacts is such a bitch and usually requires me to conquer most of the world and then wipe out families until I can get their shiny book that I'm sure they'd have given me if I could ask.

I like the balance, I don't think there's any penalties too harsh, from what I saw it's either you have good traits for stealing or you have about a 40% chance with most actions which is more then fair.

To put it into perspective, on that screenshot, I kept on reloading on failure just cause I wanted to check if it would work, and after 5 runs I failed the third test 2 times, the second test twice, and the first test never. The first test had a ~60% chance, the second one tended to be 50/50, and the third tended to be 40%. On the times I was imprisoned I was usually able to get away cleanly and when I didn't the penalties were fair for trying to steal an important artifact. And that was stealing from the Pope! (Maybe the difficulty might somewhat scale based on their title? IE Count's should be easier to steal from then Emperors?)

Suggestions: Maybe add a simple decision to ask your vassal/courtier for their artifact and then have it weighted on opinion/traits whether they're willing to give it up? I mean if it's your vassal, they like you, are content and craven, why wouldn't they give you their artifact if you demanded it? And maybe have opinion penalties for asking?

I'm considering making the difficulty scale based on either the title or the artifact quality, still havn't decided yet.

I'm not really sure if i would add that yet, im trying to get the AI to discover more artifacts first. It would be pretty boring and unimmersive to make the player have to populate the entire world with artifacts and being the only driving force in where they end up. I'll keep it in mind tho!

Could it be done as a plot rather than a decision? Seems fitting for a plot.
Plots don't support the new third party feature (picking the artifact in the decision window) so i would have to revert to the old way that involves me typing up each artifact's name 3 times for it to show up in an event based list.
I'd rather never have to go back to that hell.

I tried the Artifact Acquisition Only mod and while it's a very good idea, it seems odd that I can steal my own father's artifact (and he actually helps me with it). I tried this while I was playing as Isaakios Komnenos in the 1066 start. Can you make it so that the target of the decision can't help you with the heist?

Because HIP is a large overhaul mod and this mod heavily modifies 4 vanilla files. I will have to incorprate all of HIPs changes as i continue working on this. Which is not something I would enjoy doing.
When I finish working on this mod I will probably make a compatible version, but thats still a long ways off.

Only one file incompatible though, that is mnm_artifacts_events.txt. I've tried it with HIP and so far there is no noticeable bug, thus my question of where the incompatibility lies.

Only one file incompatible though, that is mnm_artifacts_events.txt. I've tried it with HIP and so far there is no noticeable bug, thus my question of where the incompatibility lies.

You can technically use the mod with HIP, but not everything will work correctly.

The landed title files are different, which affects the artifact spawns and some of my events. Also Joyeusse's events and cbs will just plainly not work because the map is so different.

Cultures and culture groups are also different, so some of my artifacts and events wont work.

I don't know how much HIP changes the religion files, but it may make most of my pagan religious events not trigger.

I'm also unsure how the mod load order would work, since this doesnt have HIP as a dependency. HIP may overwrite my vanilla artifact changes, which would break a couple of stuff.
