Since there has been some feedback that, as it stands now, Norse is kind of bland – it is just Norse from the base game, more or less - I thought maybe I would give some input into making it a fresh and fun experience.
Scanning through the Germanic Neopaganism wiki entry the following ideas came up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_neopaganism
I like the Adherents/Champions system you've proposed. Given the way you suggest the traits come about, it sounds like it'd be a somewhat complex series of events. It may take a bit for something like that to be implemented.

The "Wild Hunt" thing could possibly work in two variations: one for the Norse religion, and one for cultures in the West. Something about the description of "a group of spectral huntsmen in a wild pursuit of something across the sky, land, or just above it" just sounds like something I could imagine being dreamed up by ranchers and cowboys too, although they'd probably use simpler terms, something about "ghost riders" trying to catch "the Devil's herd" in the sky. Something like that, I dunno, it probably sounds really silly and I doubt any Westerner would actually sing songs about Riders in the Sky.

As for the Folkish stuff... you're right when you say I want to keep some of that ugly stuff out-- or at the very least, I'd want to make it very clear that if anybody did go for that, they're terrible people, they should regret what they just chose to do, and I'll damn well moralize on that matter. Also, I'm just not sure if heresies are really a needed thing right now.

So... with the mexico additions, I have seen something I never wish to see again, the Cuban gfx started using the European eyes. I've attached a screenshot.

I've seen that happen with the King of the Comanchería as well; whole vanilla Arab faces except the eyes, which are Western.

The problem is at portraits.gfx:

As the Norse religion description text is unchanged from vanilla CK2, here is my attempt to make it fit the greater After the End theme: “Out of the ashes of the Old World, bore the revival of an altered Norse mythos. With the return to tribalism and ancestor worship, closer ties to the Earth, and a waning belief in Christ, the Upper Midwest, a region predominantly settled by the descendants of the original worshipers of Norse paganism, found comfort in telling the stories of their ancestors in a world not much unlike their own upon the shores of Lakes Superior and Michigan.”

Holy Orders
Thought I’d spitball a few suggestions for Holy Order names: Asatru Kindred, Blades of the Asatru, or to keep in line with other orders being named after sports teams – Minnesota Vikings.

I really like your revised description AND as a lifelong Vikings fan, I would be all for them as a Holy Order! ;)

So what do you have planned for the Ursulines? I'm imagining the situation where the Order basically functions as the basis of Church life, without much of an established diocesean hierarchy. Priests could exist (possibly mostly Jesuits, who historically worked closely with Ursulines. Or maybe the OSU has opened itself to men and/or opened Holy Orders to women), but they're supported through convent chapels, rather than parishes and dioceses. With that in mind, maybe you could have priories instead of bishoprics, abbeys instead of prince-bishoprics, and prince-abbacies instead of prince-archbishoprics. Then maybe archimandrites/archimandrates as a king-level title? I'm not sure about that. I'm also not sure how I like the title "Cardinal" in this context, but I don't know enough about Catholic religious life to come up with a good-sounding replacement that might apply in this particular fictional context.

All that stuff is already in the github version of the mod

Rather than have your character witness the Wild Hunt, it'd probably be more fitting with CK2 to have it be reported in one of your provinces and the event is dealing with whether or not you believe the report and then what steps you take to respond to it.

Could have both. The reported one could be a more benign, more probable version since it would be more or less the ravings of the local crazy person coming down the grapevine and easily dismissed. While the one I described could have a very small probability of firing with a weight multiplier for those with the Lunatic trait but more serious consequences like the stressed or depressed trait being put on the character.

Fair enough. Just thought I'd stir the turd.

I'm no westerner myself, but I like that too. Also, this reminds me of another thing: The tall tale of Pecos Bill. Could be as silly and benign as a small flavor event saying, "During a passing storm you could have sworn you had seen a cowboy riding a twister." with one choice like "This is surely a wild wilderness..."

This mod is awesome! After a few abortive starts, I'm now on the road to reforming the Rust Cultist faith as the Tycoon of Michigan!

A few comments though. Firstly, Ontarioan should be Ontarian (I say this as an Ontarian myself). Secondly, I think there's a bug with one of the Rust Cultists events, where you will get a relic of the old world when you haven't gone on an expedition, sometimes even if you're not a Rust Cultist! Third, Michigan doesn't have a de jure capital; I'm not sure whether that's intentional, but it should be Detroit, right?

And lastly, I'm wondering about the de jure empires, that is, what is the logic for why some regions have them but others don't?

A few comments though. Firstly, Ontarioan should be Ontarian (I say this as an Ontarian myself).
Ontarioan's archaic, but legit. It's actually only Ontarioan because I entered it in like that at first, and by the time I caught myself several characters and provinces had been sorted out and I couldn't drive myself to sort it out at the time.

Secondly, I think there's a bug with one of the Rust Cultists events, where you will get a relic of the old world when you haven't gone on an expedition, sometimes even if you're not a Rust Cultist!
Very odd! Is it any relic, or is it one specific relic that has this issue?

Third, Michigan doesn't have a de jure capital; I'm not sure whether that's intentional, but it should be Detroit, right?
Lansing's the proper state capital, but Detroit's the biggest city. West side of the state likes to pretend that Grand Rapids is primus inter pares, and then there's Ann Arbor... honestly, I just figured it was better to leave Michigan without a proper de jure capital and let ducal capitals determine that instead.

And lastly, I'm wondering about the de jure empires, that is, what is the logic for why some regions have them but others don't?
I didn't want to plaster the whole map with de jure empires, but I figured some of them made sense as proper stuff on the ground. If a lord proclaimed his-or-herself Emperor of Canada, people should have a pretty clear idea of what that entails. Likewise, if someone were to be crowned Emperor of the Great Lakes, folks know where the Great Lakes are and roughly what area that sort of claim to empire entails. Then there's the Empire of the Lone Star, which is in because Texans were complaining that there wasn't a Kingdom of Texas covering all that.

Ok, fair enough I guess?

I got the gun (which is awesome!) in my Michigan game when I wasn't on an expedition, but during a previous game, I got a typewriter, I think, and not as a Rust Cultist. Also I've been seeing random non-rust cultists with relics. Oh, also when I got the gun, I also got the Tech Scavenger trait, though that did not happen for non-rust cultists.

Okay. I moved my capital to Detroit anyway, since it had the most holdings.

This makes sense, thanks!

Given that there's a Johnny Cash literally called "Ghost Riders in the Sky"...

... I can't tell whether you were being sarcastic or not.

I'm assuming he was being sarcastic ;)

Hey quick question guys, I've been looking for a discussion but can't find it: was it ever decided whether or not to change the British religion and if so, what to?

Cheers

I was wondering, Does the Thelemic religion ever get used? I don't see any provinces with it as its religion so I was curious.

Thelemic is the religion of the British invaders.

This is how the salvage events should be working. Everyone (including rust cultists) has a small chance to find tech without a salvage expedition, and rust cultists should be the only ones who get the Tech Scavenger trait.

Phew! You've removed the ugly alien Cubans!

EDIT: If you ever decide to introduce some weird happenings in Roswell, that would be the best thing to do to make alien portraits!

Surprised you guys haven't made the Norse religion more connected to Hockey. Maybe a sacrificial hockey game in the name of Odin? :p

Actually, I was thinking it would be worthwhile to change the tourneys into regional/cultural specific versions. Rodeos for most westerners, powows for American Indians. Hockey for Canada and maybe the northern great lakes, football games almost anywhere, etc. Maybe nascar-themed rewrites of the byzantine chariot racing events?

In at least new england, have thanksgiving feasts. Americanists can have fourth of July celebrations.
