If China and Japan fighting Spain and Portugal for control of Australia isn't crazier than the Aztecs invading Europe...

Well, huh. I'd rate them equal, I guess.

This just made me think: why not have a tiny tiny chance that, instead of the euopeans, you get the aztecs invading from europe.

I was drawn towards this thread because of the perceived silliness of an Australian themed mod, I stayed for the great work you're doing.

As a native Dutch speaker, I'm also excited about the inclusion of Dutch explorers.
If you need help finding information on the Dutch (like names of the time period), I'd be happy to help. :)

Just thinking about it, are you planning on having all the christian religions capable of proselytising the natives (since in this period the Europeans were converting the natives in America, so it makes sense they'd try it here too, if they tried to colonize Australia...)

Also, do you have any plans on making sure the europeans don't start the colonization mostly killing each other? Since some of them would be reformed or of another protestant group, I think they all have the holy war cb on each other...

The Dutch were the first to find Australia, after all. New Holland ;)

Yes, and yes/no. Religious conversion plays a big part in my plans for foreign influence in the mod. Converting religions improves relations (and stops naughty CBs) from colonial powers and gives hefty bonuses to technology (which is much more important in the mod), at the expense of internal strife with unconverted vassals and fellow natives.

As for europeans, the religions are all of the Christian group. Calvinists, Protestants, Anglicans and Catholics can't declare holy war on each other because they are in the same religious groups. However, colonial infighting is not uncommon, just look at the British and French in America.

Just finished Eastern Australia. That's about 2/3 of the provinces done, after which I can start working on making it playable to some extent. Then, work on the rest of the map begins.

Provinces in desert, mountain and arid ('steppe') terrain are generally larger, and/or have fewer holdings, to simulate differences in population spread. Cultures are currently linked to language groups, and the names are almost certainly going to change. Here's the map so far.

Those random splotches of different religion at the top of Australia are Buddhism on the point, and Hinduism in the gulf. I'll probably end up changing them into 'foreign trade' modifiers when I've implemented them. Thank RoI for implementing two religions I wa

This reminds me of a Nation RP I did on a different site where I was a Super-Power Siam in the 1500's, and I pretty much started taking over Australia (RP died before I could take over the whole Island). I hope i can recreate that in this Mod. I'm definitely going to be DLing this when it becomes available, though.

Also, I could use a map maker like you to help me with an Alt-History Mod I'm working on. :D

Hello, everyone! I've been experimenting on a few things, which is why updates have slowed, slightly. Nonetheless, I've completely a decent portion of the map, so I have some news to show!

In addition, some of the event work I've been doing involves trading posts. Numerous trading posts of different religions and nations can pop up over time, predominantly on the north coast. Allowing these trade posts gives you a permanent tax boost, as well as the occasional event that can give additional benefits such as technology, wealth and prestige.

However, they also have a change of converting the province to a heathen faith. Unless, of course, you want that to happen...

Converting can be a very powerful tool, opening you up to more favorable relations as well as improved technology.

what about glorious TONGA EMPIRE invasion?

The Most Serene Republic of Great Tonga prefers to dominate oceanic trade, rather than interfere with military conquest of lesser peoples.

In a more serious note, I've added one of the most widely requested features by absolutely nobody, as a free day 1 compulsory pre-packaged DLC:
