Maybe a plot to "encourage" disappointing heirs to go to the wall, like Sam.

It could available based on low skills in which the plotter is high, as well as undesirable traits and the plotter having cruel or ambitious.

TBH I think the Night's Watch needs a somewhat radical overhaul ATM, i like how playing as a charector your heir isn't actually on the wall, but if the wildings are given a CB on the Night's Watch it could be the player is removed from the battle which would be annoying. It could be easier if paradox release Theocracies and Republic DLC.

Plus I think charactors need to be a little healthier on average as many of them simply die off almost immediatly after starting, for instance i was playing as Stannis in the crowend stag scenario after two months Robert just dies.

May I suggest making the Cleganes direct vassals of the Lannisters? That way Gregor Clegane can be appointed to armies.

There's a fluke chance for anybody to die just inherent in the game, but the lethality early on is just natural for the opening being a huge war, in my opinion. (especially with the duelling system). I can't say I've noticed an untoward amount of people dying outside of battle, just maybe too many random title revokations from Lords Paramount.

That will sadly not work, since then the lords of Crakehall will have bad relations with the lannisters since they desire that province. They'll usually also try doing de jure war and all that.

EDIT: Also, on the night's watch stuff, I think an event should trigger if you're above your 40s or 50s with an option to join the Night's watch. Jeor Mormont joined the Night's watch as a volunteer, after all. (So did Benjen, I think)

I apologize if this has been asked before, and I'm sure it has, but how is the "Pay the Iron Price" CB supposed to work? Whenever I use it, the war immediately ends inconclusively.

Hi

I am just reading the books now. Fantastic.

I had a quick go playing Stark in the Crowned Stag scenario. I found it confusing because I was sent to war which was focused at the other side of the realm. I guess this must be the norm and shows my noobness for CKII in general.

I would be very grateful if someone could spend time offering some goals for a couple of very different starting points in the Crowned Stag please.

Also, is it possible to play the game as an independent countlike dude somewhere? With areas for expansion? Like Ireland in vanilla CKII? If so who and should I be pro Robert or not?

Thanks for the hand holding. :)

Andy

I don't know if I'm uncovering a spoiler for myself now since I haven't read all the books but some how I doubt it.

Is there any reason why the Rykkers keep ending up on the Iron Throne in my games? In the first game it happened, the War of the Usurper ended and instead of a Targaryen or Baratheon on the throne, there was a Rykker.

In my current game, the Targaryens won the war and ruled for the whole game. The last king, from the time I'm at now, was King Visery III. He had 6 children, 4 daughters, 1 dead son and 1 live son. The was also Jaremy Rykker who, at the time of Visery III's rule, was High Lord of Duskendale. He had a son, Dylan Rykker with the wife of the Lord of Bywater. Since the two weren't married, I'm assuming the child is a bastard but, as far as I can see, the game doesn't register that at all.

Anyway when King Visery III died, his daughter inherited the High Lordship of King's Landing but Dylan Rykker became King of the Iron Throne, just totally randomly. Does anyone else have this kind of bug? To be honest, I find it pretty game breaking and I often start a new game when it happens

Happened to me several times in SP that some random lord with no claim got the iron throne through the plot or a bug. Also the War of the Usurper tends to dismiss with no real conclusion. I find it extremely annoying since I play MP game with some other folks and in our scenario almost anyone can be a king, paramount or even a petty lord.

In my game I played as the Iron Isles and fought for Independence and got it and then married the queen of the vale (probably not called queen but whatever her title is)...so I tried to press her claim, to claim the vale for my kingdom and when I do the war starts and then immediately ends inconclusively. I also couldn't join someone else's rebellion when they had one when I was ruling my Kingdom.

For Jeor, at least, I'm pretty sure it was the shame of Jorah's actions that drove him into the Watch. I don't know if Benjen's choice to join was related to 3 out of 5 of his nuclear family being killed in the War, but I could see that as a possibility. Maybe some kind of tragedy-related event. Like, if your wife that you love dies, one of the options could be to join the Watch in mourning.

Jeor left after the Greyjoy Rebellion and the Tourney at Lannisport and before Jorah sold the slaves and fled.

Nah, Jeor joined the Watch as he believed Jorah would be a good lord in his stead.

It's never said why Benjen took the black nor even hinted at as far as I remember.

It may have had something to do with him being the third son. Winterfell should have gone to Brandon and Eddard would have been one of his bannermen probably holding a some lands for his brother. Benjen may have been expected to take the Black because there was no inheritance for him.

Or he may have just been a very idealistic youth who saw great honor in it. The Starks seem to appreciate the Watch more than any other house.

I can't figure out how to install this mod. Do I just put it in the mod folder? Or do I have to actually overwrite all my CK2 files? The instructions aren't very clear, they just say to "install crusader kings 2 to [directory]" but there isn't even a "crusader kings 2" folder in the download.

Yeah IMHO most houses wouldn't care if a NW deserter was on their land, whereas the Starks punish them.
