Because of how the modifiers works - (all modifiers are applied multiplicatively upon the base value of attacks/defense/etc. - with the note that night penalty only applies to attack values) -

50% -> 25% - It's 50% more effective during night - Which could be averaged to 16.6% attack value increase over day
40% -> 15% - It's 41.6% more effective during night - Which could be averaged to 13.86% attack value increase over day
25% -> 0% - It's 33.3% more effective during night - Which could be averaged to 11.1% attack value increase over day.
