So, I just finish my mission as Byz to get the +50 army tradition, so I knock up to 100, I hire a general 5 fire, 6 shock, 4 maneuv, 2 siege, wonderful, he outranks every other general in the world by 7 points. What happens the very next day? My King dies, so regency council because my heir is 13. So, I can't even go to war with anyone lol. Bet my general dies before my heir comes of age.

It's not that bad, because with 5.2 I can take time to catch up to my manpower, but wow, bad timing.

When a general is the head of an army, there is a higher chance of him dying, even if the army is not doing anything. So if you are at peace, it is always good to rest your generals. And as IZob said, only recruit generals right before wars so the survive longer. With these tactics your generals can see up to 20 years of wars.
