All missions are divided into tree categories (Administrative, diplomatic, military), and you pick one from a category to proceed. Each category contains up to ten missions to choose from. Administrative missions include converting a province, achieving religious unity, get 100 legitimacy, turn province into a core, etc. Diplomatic missions include colonizing a province, improving relations, insulting a rival, enemy of enemy, vassalizing a nearby small country. Military missions include region conquest missions, which give you claims on an entire neighboring region ala ottoman missions, but for everyone, building army to 75% of forcelimit, overseas conquest missions like get a foothold in india. I feel that this would give players a lot more freedom in how they want to play the game, as it's always felt biased to me that countries like the ottomans get claims on big areas but nobody else does.
