Hi everyone,

I was wondering how Crusader Kings compares to two thrones. I read the reviews of two thrones and they said it was pretty bad so I was wondering how similar are the two games and in what aspects.

By the way, I was checking out the list of English counties and I noticed there were some places that should have been represented but weren't, mainly the important English cathedral towns of Canterbury and York (as opposed to York-SHIRE), as well as counties with titles like Nottingham, Huntingdon, Worcester, Rutland and finally the lands of Richmond in Yorkshire which also carried an important title.

Thanks,
Richmond

Everyone could say that about their homeland - this is important, this should be in there etc. There are approx 1000 provinces. If everyone could put in all their important places there would tens of thousands of provinces. Developers had to draw the line somewhere.

The list of English counties looks fine to me. Nottingham does seem to be a rather large omission but I guess putting both Nottingham and Derby in would mean rather small counties.

I agree, England seems fine to me. There's an archbishopbric at the start which covers the land of Sussex and Kent, though Sussex belongs to the King and the archbishop holds Kent - i.e. Canterbury. He's called the Archbishop of Sussex which is a bit confusing but this is obviously Canterbury.

Also, though York starts as a county and Durham is a bishopric, there's an Archbishopric available here too because in one game of mine the Bishop of Durham got a claim on the Archbishop of York (and not Bishop).

That adequately represents Canterbury and York in my mind and the other counties are too small I think.

Although I'd have named and divvied the British Isles differently, the number of provinces is about OK. Just because an area was a shire doesn't make it gameworthy. I've seen tumours bigger than Rutland.

Thanks for the reviews and answers :)

Just wondering about the provinces because I've been hoping for the longest time after playing KINGMAKER for a War of the Roses game and when the Paradox War of the Roses game (Two Thrones) didn't sound so good I was put off.

I mentioned the towns because there are a few important towns represented (Bristol and Berwick) so I saw no reason why they shouldn't include at the very least Canterbury, York and probably Richmond (okay vested interest there!)

Are the noble titles only named after the counties? Like Duke of X or Earl of Y (ie Archbishop of Sussex county, Duke of Bristol, stuff like that?)

Just wondering,
Richmond

Yes, they are just named after the counties though it's the Duke of Gloucester which includes Gloucester and Bristol counties :)

Whilst it doesn't give you strictly accurate titles, it does work well I think.

Well that sux a bit, so the only way to change the title is to change the name of the county right? :p

Richmond

I think you'll find the map's hardcoded, like other paradox games so you won't be able to change the county names on the map. You could change the name in province.csv though which would change the title.

The Counties are named after the provinces (or counties, as they are...) while the Duchies are named separate. If you want the Archbishop of Essex to be A. of Canterbury you can change that:

1. Open the file ./config/world_names.csv in a text editor (take a copy first, just in case)
2. Find this line: SUSS;Essex;;;;;;;;;;X
3. Change to this: SUSS;Canterbury;;;;;;;;;;X
4. Save the file.

Note that the Duchy level titles are used for both temporal and ecclesiastic titles, so if you take this land from the Church you can appoint a Duke of Canterbury instead.
