While the likelihood of Johan adding this in a patch is very small, perhaps it could be added in an expansion or some other form.

The game currently sports a feature called "Sell Province" - This is a GREAT addition to the game. However there is one fundamental flaw to this - you can't offer to buy ones the AI decides not to sell. I'd like to see the game sport an option to offer to buy and trade provinces. The UI for this is pretty much already done so it wouldn't be too difficult to add. The reason I suggest this as an official "addition" to the game rather than a mod is because it would add a lot to the core game as is.

Basically the way I would envision this is as follows:

You would have one single diplomacy option: Buy/Trade/Sell Province

This option would bring up a 2 sided panel similar to a peace treaty. In it you can offer money, and other provinces.

What this would allow is the following kind of scenarios:

Nation A has a core of Nation B. Nation B has some good colonies that Nation A wants.

Nation A could trade the core for the colonies
Nation A could offer Money for the colonies
Nation A could offer the core for money (as is currently able to be done)

This would be very useful for getting rid of those random territories that you have in the middle of nowhere. You could also in a sense do multi-way trades. Nation A could buy a core of Nation B from Nation C, than trade it for those colonies for example.

I think it's a sorely lacking feature that would enhance the game by leaps and bounds -- what do you guys think?

Another reason why the option to initiate a sale with the AI would be nice - they may not always think to sell you that province you want because they have no way of knowing your ultimate plan.

Could be an interesting option, but I think the problem is one of balance. Let me just ask you this: what would it take for you to sell one of your provinces? Would you accept a purchase offer from the AI?

It depends on circumstance. If the AI offers me a huge amount of gold for a territory unconnected to my larger empire, and has no strategic value I likely would. This would allow me in turn to buy something more useful weather its a better province for me, or a manufactury somewhere, or even troops if I was in a long drawn out war. Think of the Louisiana purchase - America offered to buy it from France, and France accepted to fund its military.
