Missing CD-key from Steam Version of DH

One of my friends bought me a Steam key for "Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game" from the new Paradox web store and sent it to me. I redeemed the Steam key on Steam, however Steam did not provide me with a CD-key (to register on the Paradox Forums) for the game, which normally should appear when I right click the game in the Steam Client (the "View CD-key" option doesn't exist.) From what I read, Steam is supposed to give you a Free DLC after you install and start the game which provides you with the CD-key, however this did not happen to me (after I installed and played the game.) I think this may be a glitch with Steam, since my copy was purchased through a key rather than the Steam Store, so they did not automatically give me the DLC that provides me with the CD-key. How would I go about fixing this, since I need that key to register on the forums to get Tech Support and view User Mods?

Hi, unfortunately these things are handled by the publisher, not the developer, so I'm not sure what you should do.

Anyway, User Mods subforum can be seen without registration.

Have the same problem with Steam. Bought the game yesterday on the new Paradox-webshop. For updating I need to register the game. It's a shame that this happend via the Paradox-Shop. Should have stayed with gamersgate but wanted to support a company from wich I used to play game for ten years now.

I understand the situation, but I don't think this is the right place to ask for assistance, as in this forum you can find the developers of DH, but the problem should be handled by the publisher.

Please understand, I am not trying to dismiss you, but I really can't help you with this issue and unfortunately I am not sure what's the best way to get this problem solved. You should contact the publisher and I think the right way is the link I posted above (https://paradox.zendesk.com/home). However, I could be wrong. If you can't find adeguate assistance here, I can only suggest to start a thread to ask for help there (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?518-Paradox-General-Discussion) as many people do even if it's probably not the right place either.

Thanks for looking into this. Does this mean that steam will only start distributing keys for new purchases made now, or will people who purchased it previously and have been unable to access a key suddenly see it appear on steam?

It should be given out to people who already purchased it as well if they didn't get one to begin with.

I bought Darest Hour on Paradox Web Shop and then I got key that I used in Steam to activate and download the game. Unfortunately, the key I have does not work as a cd-key needed to register on this forum to get 1.03 beta patch. I have no cd-key tab in Steam. What's wrong? How can I get my key to register my game on this forum?

Still no key. I've contacted Steam Support and they've been completely unhelpful. If it's any help, its listed as "Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game Comp Retail" in my Steam Licenses and subscriptions page.

What strikes me most is the DLC Link above the CD-Key...

123ABC1ABCDEFG1 - this is an example of the cd-key I was given by the Steam Support team. But in FAQ there is written the key should be like 5x5 long. I'm confused. The key does not work.

The numbers of the CD-key which the Steam gives, are not exactly compatible with the one that requires to register. I can't find the corresponding topic (should be somewhere here on DH forums, IIRC). AFAIK it is

1234-5678-9ABC-DEFG then it would be something like 12345-6789A-BCDEF and the last one is not needed? Something like this, but I'm not sure.

This says that "This DLC is automatically installed and deleted with you product, and you can reach it after launch".

And in the end, it should be something like this:

Obviously, the CD-key will be completly different. And the language won't be necessarily Hungarian.

If you bought the game through Steam; right click on the game in Steam to bring up a menu that has viewing the CD key as an option. Note that you need to have installed the game for the key to show up; For reasons only Steam knows the key is provded as a DLC, so you have to install the game to be able to view it.

Once you have your key, you need to copy the key into the correct field (the Darkest Hour one). The key you have from Steam is 5x5 digits, but the registration only asks for 6x4 digits. Just fill out the digits one by one, and drop the last one left over. So if you have a key of the form 12345-12345-12345-12345-1234X, you need to fill out the forum key like this: 1234-5123-4512-3451-2345-1234, ignoring the last character "X".

If your key does not work, contact support@paradoxplaza.com.

Note that, once you have registered, there is no official procedure to "unregister"; so if you intend to give the game as a gift or sell it second-hand you should not register, so that the final recipient can register it in their own name.
