Following this discussion (which I didn't take part in...), I decided to make and release a very small modification to the tournament event that results in homosexuality for your character. Instead of 100% always getting the homosexual trait, you can now either take the old option, which has a 65% chance of giving the affected character the homosexual trait, or you can instead choose the new option which now has a 35% chance of making you ill.

UPDATE 15/04/2012: I've made a second update now to the mod, it now includes 3 different versions;
Original: Same as the screenshot, you can either take a chance at homosexuality, or alternatively a chance of food poisoning.
Alternative 1: Food poisoning has been replaced with a +20 opinion modifier for a single random tournament participant (tournament_friendship in opinion_modifiers.txt).
Alternative 2: The second option in this one gives you a 35% chance of recieving the gregarious trait.

I'm fairly terrible at flavour text, and since it's such a simple little mod, if anyone has any inclination to use it in their own mod(s) feel free with or without alteration, I don't much care about credits and what have you, it's all good ;)

homosexuality is equal to illness ?? that is indeed an odd oriented choice.

if people are lead to this option it is because they make some choices on previous event in chain, I don't see why changing it.

I wasn't trying to start a discussion or make a statement, I chose illness simply because of the phrasing of the event text from paradox "a queer feeling came over me." Which doesn't necessarily mean you're gay, but just feel strange, peculiar perhaps nauseous, thus...ill!

I don't in reality see homosexuality as something bad, thus the ill option is perhaps the bad option (since I think it has worse modifiers, and can also lead to death in a fairly quick time) :p
Regardless, there's no necessity to download the mod or include the changes in your own mods/game, it's simply here if someone else wants it :)

Oh and finally, as far as I can tell it's not caused by an event chain other than attending a tournament, you have no other steps to go to get this event come up, simply attend a tournament, and there's a chance you'll get this event come up and *BANG* you're gay. It doesn't happen like that in reality, really, trust me on this (but, food poisoning at a public event, does happen, frequently).

I don't think people have an issue with getting the homosexual trait from tournaments. It's that the event occurs YEARS after holding the tournament. Other nasty tournament events, like the STD one, can also happen years after, and that clearly shouldn't be happening.

Can you maybe fix how the flags are cleared? I haven't looked into this particular event chain too much, but I assume that's what is causing the issue.

Clearly, that is not it's intended comparison.

Still a poor choice of words. When I see a cute guy - illness isn't what comes over me...:p

I went over the flags, but it's new to me (used to CK1 scripting which I don't think had flags like these from what I remember). I can't see anything immediately wrong with the events, perhaps it's just a quirk of the engine, but just in case I have added new clear flag lines to the end of tournament events which are supposed to fire for everyone who attends the tournament, which *SHOULD* remove the flag necessary for this event to run, although the event which triggers the end of tournament events already has this line

Anyway, original download is updated. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can make it more palatable, let me know.

It is rather a strange event. Most of the emotionally rewarding relationships between adults during those times were same-gender: church and military lifeways in particular. There was a lot of talk of fraternity (but not equality). So maybe the other choice should be a more platonic sort of trait like gregarious? That is, when you feel part of something bigger than yourself, how you process that feeling should have to do with your personality traits, so if you are an epicurean type (lustful, hedonist, etc.) you could interpret it as a carnal thing, but if you are zealous and the like you could take it as Christian brotherhood. If that makes sense?

Maybe for this particular character, at this particular point in history, illness is what comes over him at that very moment. :p

This is probably more along the lines of what was intended. Sodomy and homosexuality back then, in the public eye, ranged from either being severely looked down upon to death/execution. Yes, in private, it probably happened as much as it does in this day and age, but people back then had a lot more to worry about than what their parents might think.

So, you either "secretly" embrace it (but it seems like all your vassals have Gaydars anyways). Or you're driven sick from worry about the consequences of those actions. Maybe Stressed would be more applicable? :D
