minor launcher error

Steam launcher version 2020.9 and Stellaris 2.72 60bf. All Paradox DLC's, no third party mods.

When launching game from Windows 10 desktop, start menu, or Steam launcher loads, pulls up news and "advertisements" which currently are for Discord membership, Federation DLC plug on Facebook, and "Cold war" game playthrough also from Facebook.

At the end of the Launcher load process everything seems ok but a small red dot appears in the upper corner which when the mouse cursor hovers over a small text message appears saying that a launcher error has occurred and to notify "tech support"

The game seems to load and run correctly without obvious errors when selecting "Resume" or "Play" buttons.
If the user selects any of the three "launcher box" options they also seem to operate correctly and pull up Discord appeal for members, advert for the Federations DLC, and "Cold War" video playthrough. The launcher boxes are displayed in a "new" color scheme of "yellowish box borders and graphics" unlike the previous color scheme of blue.

This does not seem to impact the play or enjoyment of the game in any way (which I do enjoy having logged a few thousand hours in play)

So in accordance to the wishes of the "red dot" being displayed in the launcher I have notified the hard working gnomes of support with this thread,

The current launcher version is 2020.10 so you are only one behind. There's no actual need to do anything if it's working fine for you as is.

Just so you know, the first thing to try to fix such launcher issues is this process:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Maybe keep that in reserve in case you do see any problem.

Excellent!, Once again thanks for solving this problem, performed the steps indicated and am now running the current launcher - Problem solved.

I tried according to your steps , but the launcher still can't be updated after re installing the launcher. My launcher version is 2020.03 and Stellaris 2.72 60bf . How can i slove this problem?

Yes, I followed your steps twice again. Even re install the game, but it still didn't work

Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package for Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2020.11-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then please repeat the launcher reinstall procedure from before.
