Nope. AI just prioritize killing you. It doesn't have a management loop to worry about outside of combat.
An OpFor who worried about its resource management wouldn't be fun to play against. The moment the player started winning, it would try to flee or surrender.
The OpFors here are mooks. Their purpose is to be killed by the player.

Do you have backup for that statement?

And, you referring to the Campaign AI or the Skirmish AI?

Well, there's not much point coding an AI that worries about repair cost or salvage potential when there's nothing outside of the tactical mission. The skirmish, campaign and randomly generated missions are all self contained so the AI will just try to kill you until you kill it.

Respectfully, I would disagree with that. Playing against an AI that is "going for broke" when you're playing to "win with least amount of loss" would be vastly different than playing an AI with the goal of "win with least loss." For a simulation, it would be well worth coding the AI, particularly in campaign, to have various overriding goals. In skirmish, it's all or nothing--again vastly different than campaign.

During Cohh's stream, the AI would withdraw to find more support from its allies rather than Leeroy into you like the Backer Beta would.

Also during his stream, a 'Mech got its CT cored out as well as RT and RA being destroyed. It looked like 41 days to fix the whole thing. (This is, of course, with the section repairs, and refitting in the replacement components.)

My plan for Iron Man mode (among other things) is to re-institute the rule that "no CT = no more mech, buy a new one." It was just too damn punishing for players who didn't want the challenge, but I am MORE than happy to put that back in for people who wanna roll some Darkest Dungeon type mech combat.
That sounds awesome. - really looking forward to it. For my second playthrough. :D

Well the mod support will help and i think its far enough away from XCOM2 to give the player an entire different "feel" of playing, so BattleTech isnt just a carbon copy of XCOM with bigger "units".
XCOM isnt even in the same ballpark as BT. XCOM lacked alot of customization and other features I figured shoulda been in it. It felt kinda stripped down, and not even that great of modding ability. I did some basic modding like price, health and XP changes to my guys ,but yeah....nothing really cool, like making new maps, new missions, new units, new guns, nothing to the extent of what I did in Men of War, creating basically a whole new game experience and ~25 functioning missions, which only my waning work ethic stopping me from making more. I had a post WWII Russian world take over campaign planned since I managed to snag an M103 from another guy's mod. Was gunna make a campaign based on Russia taking advantage of the hell hole the world was in invading.

I may be wrong but are you sure we are talking about the same game because the Steam Workshop is quite filled with XCOM 2 Mods, or Nexusmods for XCOM EU and XCOM2. Sure, its not Skyrim level of mods, but its enough ;) And with the Long War, there are some very heavy customized mods out there.

Yeah, we are.....

I mean mods like new gun models, new armor models, new maps, maybe new units, and missions, not just the few tweaks we can make with the File hacker, or w/e program I was using to make mods for the game.

Id love to expand that weapon list from 3 to like 30 weapons, among other things, increased soldier carrying capacity, new abilities and all that jazz...make it a full on new game experience.

I watched that live stream as well (didn't do much for my efficiency at work ;-) ) and the replay of the NGNG one. The AI in the campaign did seem to make the types of tactical decisions that I would expect from one coded to not simply Go Kill Things. I'd imagine the untold hours many of us spent with the more aggressive AI in the Backer Beta served as wonderful machine learning exercises for the AI--in addition to rooting out combat system bugs and testing options.

I'm very please with what I witnessed in the various live streams so far.

And more to modding XCOM, I would LOVE to be able to figure out how to mod things like soldier nationality %, make it so my guys are NEVER snipers, and more or less, that I can pick the class. I am about sick and friggin TIRED of getting nothing but fking snipers. EVERY time I play, its sniper, sniper, sniper, sniper, sniper, sniper, assault, sniper, heavy, sniper, sniper, heavy, sniper, support, sniper, snipier, sniper, so I go the first 20 missions just trying to get the team I want, both nation and class.
