Im jelly, that guy is playing the game......who's PPC barrel did he fondle to get access to that?

He has almost a million twitch followers. Thats what he did.

Its great marketing for the game. As much as *I* want to play and as frustrating as his inexperience was, he is exactly the kind of guy HBS/PDX wants showing this game off to tons of other people who haven't heard of battletech.

SPOILER IN THE “SPOILER” BOX:
“Pretty close to buying a while Mech” ~ Not according to Cohh’s stream today. IIRC for less than 300k, 2 Med Laser, 8 Jump Jets and 33-Days, an entire Spider was rebuilt from having been completely destroyed when a Leopard DropShip landed on it.

While that is expensive, the price was reasonable given the extent of the damage and 33-Days to repair a Mech from scratch seemed like a steal to me.

Can anyone confirm or deny this from Cohh’s stream earlier today?

It is very nice to use “Spoiler” boxes for what they were meant to provide us. : )

Not the correct stream.
It was @cKnoor who used a Spider as a dropship landing pad. And it cost well over 300k just to get the chassis rebuilt

Hope the spoiler box worked right.

Im jelly, that guy is playing the game......who's PPC barrel did he fondle to get access to that?

But it looks fantastic, it really has gone back to the good old days of gaming, a nice intro, nice lore, an actual backstory that we are actually playing, an actual point and purpose to the game....its beautiful...I cant wait.

Its amazing to see the effort they actually put into this game.

It’s amazing what two and a half years of hard work can produce. HBS, the game looks excellent. I can’t wait to play!

Interesting. I didnt find his gameplay that bad. It was kinda amusing actually.

I typically have a hard time watching twitches and stuff cuz the player just makes it so cringy to watch....idk what exactly does it, but yeah. Cohh wasnt that bad.

Not accurate.

By the time he completed the mission, the Spider was still standing but had lost LA, LT, RA, RT, along with 8 small Jump Jets. To repair the destroyed sections and install the two spare Jump Jets he had in inventory cost him ~158k and 27 days. This was for an intact, but heavily damaged mech.
As pointed out below, it was cKnoor and not Cohh who began the stream with a destroyed Spider. Sorry for the confusion.]

I'm a cranky old man who wants the kids to get off my lawn when it comes to streamers.

I hate face cams. I hate reading the dialogue, I HATE reading the dialogue in "voices", I hate not RTFM, I hate RANDOM SHOUTING OH WOWEE! I hate blind play. Basically I just hate watching someone else play the game I WANT TO PLAY.

But I don't hate his contribution to making the game a success. ;)

Yeah, thats what I typically dont like about streamers as well.....just alot of meta play, and all the typical PVPeener stuff. Plus, yeah, I find it more fun to play then watch...

To be fair, he represents the majority of people who's first knowledge of the Battletech universe will be this game and how they would approach it. Sure, those of us can recite the entire TRO 3025 in our sleep can all cringe at his tactical decisions but he's having fun and his viewers are responding to this positively.

One thing I have to bring up though. Almost no people, even from Beta streams, realize you can check hit percentage before committing to a movement. This is such a crucial aspect of the combat it MUST be made more obvious to players who haven't followed HBS's stream's religiously. Overall, the first tutorial mission is somewhat inadequate for newcomers in explaining the relationship between weapons, range, damage, hit location, facing, heat management and stability.

I'm hoping Cohh does a little research before his next playthrough though. He had no experience in the different mechs, their strengths and weaknesses...even their roles and tonnage. He was trying to read tool tips, but ignored some of the most important aspects of what Battletech is. He was doing a lot of "I'm going to move this guy here, and these two are going to go this way" sort of thing, and didn't play to their movement or weapons styles. Granted no one is going to be able to recite any TRO for all the mechs in the game, but I'd probably want to know what I had on my side at least before I went off into battle.

Maybe later "totally an actual mission and not an advanced tutorial" mission will cover the other stuff?

One question if someone could clarify ... Did I read/hear that to fix/replace destroyed sections in a mech (take that spider for example) will be the same cost in larger mechs also ie say an orion? (or did I misremember something). So to fix the spider will be the same price to fix a orion.

Ill have to finish the streams (got home too late last nite) - I agree with the other posters. I actually like the game better now that I watched part of the campaign streams. Im glad there is more to do then to just fight battles. Cant wait to get stuck into it.

I absolutely *love* how excited he was about the game.

If enough of the XCOM crowd is thinking along the same lines he is, we could be seeing quite a few of those "in success" features become a reality.

Well the mod support will help and i think its far enough away from XCOM2 to give the player an entire different "feel" of playing, so BattleTech isnt just a carbon copy of XCOM with bigger "units".

My plan for Iron Man mode (among other things) is to re-institute the rule that "no CT = no more mech, buy a new one." It was just too damn punishing for players who didn't want the challenge, but I am MORE than happy to put that back in for people who wanna roll some Darkest Dungeon type mech combat.

I'M THROWING MONEY AT MY SCREEN BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING.

I'm curious to see how this impacts the AI in the game. Presumably, the AI OpFor would want to minimize damage to it's own mechs in addition to neutralizing enemy mechs with minimal damage as well. Minimal damage means more better salvage, right?

I would be down with that. That is how we did it with the board game. CT destroyed= dead mech with maybe the arms and a foot actuator still intact....

Nope. AI just prioritize killing you. It doesn't have a management loop to worry about outside of combat.

Do you have backup for that statement?

And, you referring to the Campaign AI or the Skirmish AI?
